Not necessarily. Cannister and grape shot are for all intensive purposes giant shotgun shells. This might simply be a single ball from such a munition. If you live anywhere south of Gettysburg, PA then it might also be very likely it is from the Civil War or perhaps even if you are close enough to one of the battlefields from the Revolutionary War.
