Description: Feraligatr is a reptilian pokémon that lives primarily in large rivers or lakes in tropic climates. Although it is sometimes found in somewhat cooler areas, it is very unusual for it to be successful there. The females are usually larger than the males, but the bright red ridges on their tail and head are smaller. Feraligatr live in competitive groups: if food is scarce, they will immediately see the weakest of their group as new prey. They can go without food for long periods of time. Usually they eat themselves full during the dry season, when their prey has no choice but to drink the water where these Feraligatr live. They attack their prey from the water. Each Feraligatr seems to have it’s own preferred method of hunting. Some work alone, but complicated hunting patterns have been observed, where the group uses both brute strength and cunning. When they get the opportunity, they hunt for fish, that they can detect with their dorsal ridges: these can sense certain vibrations in the water. When a group of Feraligatr has lived in the same place for some time, the fish population dies out and the Feraligatr have to hunt for land-dwelling prey. A Feraligatr first tries to bring down it’s prey by biting it’s legs. When the prey is crippled, Feraligatr clamps it’s enormous jaws around the prey’s neck and drags the prey underwater, where it dies either of blood loss or by drowning. Feraligatr lack the ability to chew their food and tear of pieces of their prey by taking the prey between it’s jaws and then shaking it’s head to tear up the victim. It swallows these pieces whole, bone, skin and all. On land, it normally walks on all four legs, but it is capable of walking just on it’s hind legs for short distances. To intimidate others, it stands up straight and stamps on the ground. If this doesn’t work, it charges at it’s foe while on it’s hind legs, so that it can reach the neck of nearly every pokémon with it’s jaws. During the mating season, the light spot on the female’s belly becomes lined with bright red to indicate that she is fertile. Feraligatr females are very protective of their eggs. They make large, shallow nests on the shore, laying up to thirty eggs in one nest. The nests are covered with sand and leaves, to regulate the temperature in the nest. The mother guards her nest constantly, sleeping near the eggs and attacking anyone who dares come close, including other Feraligatr. When the eggs hatch, the newborn Totodile make a squeaking noise that their mother recognizes as a sign to open up the nest. The Feraligatr guides it’s young to the water. Usually the mother loses interest in her young after a few days, after which they become prey for other Feraligatr until they are large enough to defend themselves.
