Had this idea in the back of my head to come up with new official designs for all the Legends of Aeluria that have been created so far. Some of the characters exist only on paper or in my mind, and are in desperate need of a physical form.
Asaph is one of the many of my characters I had yet to draw, or have a physical design for.
Asaph is Jaguar, one of the small handful living in the desert regions east of Feloria.
In my plans for Aeluria, I intend for him to be the main 'writer' for the adventures the Sons of Verganza have together.
I also picture Asaph outliving the other six, long enough to see the next generation to take their place.
Name: Asaph Baruch:
Nickname: Scribe, Preacher
Affiliation: Felorian Alliance, City of Felidor, Seven Sons of Verganza
Known Living relatives:
Adopted mother
Adopted brother and sister
Oath Brothers
Out of all the seven, Asaph was the only one with a family to return to after he and his comrades escaped the Orionites. Orphaned as a toddler, the jaguar was adopted into a family of lion scribes, and along with their children, was taught the family trade. A non-violent type, Asaph took more readily to the pen than he did to the sword, unlike his siblings and most of the other boys of the village.
This changed only once, when he was forced to use a sword to free himself and six other captives from the hand of slavery.
His adopted family had been almost wiped out, and feeling their loss was his fault, chose to ally with his new oath brothers, unable to truly face the pain of loss.
As a scribe's son, Asaph had been taught daily the scriptures that were copied and redistributed within his house. While the six others had a warrior spirit, Asaph had a strong will built upon the holy words he had known since his youth.
Knowing the importance of the holy books, he keeps with him the last full copy of scriptures that his father had finished on the very day the Orionites struck Verganza, to read aloud to his oath brothers, whenever the group is out on the Day of Worship.
As the religious and moral center of the group, Asaph is sometimes put at odds with his oath brothers, who clash with him over such matters.
Years later, after his brother's oath grew to contain legions of men and women eager to serve their cause, Asaph was instrumental in reforming the simple oath into a creed of a new order of knights, made up of both commoners and nobles alike. Asaph himself retired, and with the help of his adopted family, would gather his years of chronicles and transcribe them into what would become the first Legends of Aeluria.
I originally was going to name him Ananias, after the person God sent to Paul, but I decided to change it to an Old Testament name, after considering the two negative strikes against the name (Ananias the high priest, Ananias and Saphira).
The name Asaph comes from the Psalms, he was a Levite in charge of performing and writing music for temple worship. His surname comes from Baruch Ben Neriah, the personal aide, secretary, and scribe for the prophet Jeremiah.
This Baruch has a total of 5 apocryphal books named after him, but none can be historically applied to him.
