Ok... I had some time today so I decided to finish the background and stuff. Partially proud of how it looks. ^^

The big clouds in the background? No. Got them from Brushezee or something like that. The ones for the mist I did that one. Using only Photoshop CS3 and there's a neat trick for blending, just the smudge (or finger tool) with a little scattering under brush options. I use a default brush from Photoshop and it works wonders. ^^
Interesting. I need to experiment with Photoshop Elements 6.0 (which is free, and came with the computer, and I use because I have no money whatsoever), and see if I'm just doing it wrong, or if it just doesn't handle stuff as well (I've used a trial of CS2, and this, other than lackng a colorwheel/colorblend box, has all the features of CS2 when in edit mode).
Was everything you did in a separate layer for all the different levels of stuff and colors and such, or was all color for each part of the background and such all in one layer?
Sorry to be asking so many questions, but just watching the video of you working I think has helped me learn what to do for digital coloring more than anything else I've ever seen or tried.

Mostly it was all in just a few layers. When the character was done in black and white, I used two separate layers for the colors, skin was on Multiply layer to give volume, the armor and all that stuff was done on a... Linear Burn layer I think. The background was... Sand and building in the background one same layer, the clouds on a separate layer with masks... Hmmm. And just the foreground, 3 layers. The details like the blood and the sword.
As for the brushes? I'm not sure about the other versions, but you make a black and white image, usually between 150X150 and 500X500 pixels then Edit>Define Brush Preset and there it goes, you made a new brush.
