Vali Polihronis's mother was a gardevoir from a wealthy and influential family from the Sevii Islands. At a young age she left home to rebel against them and their hints of an arranged marriage, living carefree on their money and engaged in one relationship after another that they didn't approve of. One of these flings was with a poliwrath from one of the more tribal settlements on the island, which would have an unexpected and unlikely consequence - the rebellious gardevoir becoming pregnant.

Although the odds of such an unusual pairing coming to fruition were astronomically high, they were apparently not impossible. The gardevoir's family was appalled and all but disowned her, only the fact that her daughter was thankfully born a ralts, albeit an unusually-colored one, prevented such. Nonetheless Vali was scorned by her mother and her family, instead raised by her poliwrath father.

Vali grew up with far more respect and familiarity for her father's traditions than her mother's, seeing her mother only occasionally. She traded fancy gowns for khaki shorts and swimwear, dinner parties with the rich and powerful for surfing and lounging on the beach. An awareness for the natural world unusual for her species would drive her to train and work hard, hoping to join the Rangers.

Having learned all she could at the school in her small hometown, her father moved to transfer her to the Poke-Combat Academy of Higher Learning, to learn not only battle tactics but skills and training that would be useful in her goal. Before even starting classes she happened to meet Team Krimson's leader Dominic Ardillo del Relampago at a nearby indoor sports and recreational complex where she was surfing in the wave pool.

Dominic was there to contemplate adding an alternate to his own team, in consideration of several intense, high-profile matches where injuries had occurred, a move backed by his sister and coach Tessa. Dominic and Vali got to talking at the juice bar, the subject came up, and she volunteered. Dominic wanted to see if she could fight first and she promptly drug him over to one of the battle cages in the complex to do so, still in her swimsuit, thereby ensuring her spot. Partly due to proving her fighting ability, and partly (though Dominic won't admit it) for doing so in a bikini.

Having been trained by her father with minimal exposure to her mother's side, Vali knows very little about fighting like a "proper" gardevoir. Most of her attacks are physical and she's a very skilled hand to hand combatant, which takes nearly everyone by surprise. In contrast her psychic abilities are rather underdeveloped. While she may be an unusual combatant, this only seems to make her fit in with her new team all the better.
