Stop for a minute and think to yourself:
Hey! what IS music?
http://www.answers.com/topic/music defines it as the following:
music
(myū'zĭk) pronunciation
1. The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition...
...An aesthetically pleasing or harmonious sound or combination of sounds...
to me, some of the best music i have ever heard has been the thunder of a storm and the light show of lightning...
in this track i have arranged more sounds then you can imagine, and it was all just an experiment as to what the final result would sound like,
so stop and ask yourself, Is it music?
my personal definition of music is
any sound that is pleasing to the ears.
enjoy it or hate it, this is a view into my head on a bad day,
ask me if you want a much higher quality copy, in it you can actually hear water droplets and you can FEEL the thunder.

:D thanks,
but who says this isn't pleasing? if all music was bouncy and happy
we would all be just like little 15 year old girls that have a crush on the latest boy band.
what i have done here is an attempt to actually tell a story,.
it starts out on a stormy night in an undisclosed country in the pouring rain,
suddenly in the skys above an enemy plane comes screaming out of the sky as it has been shot down, the air raid siren is turned on.
you can hear the fire as the crashsite burns (firewood kindling since it was a WWI style bipe ) trops on the ground spot enemy troups and more planes, so they begin to fire upon them, and all hell breaks loose,
the screams represent the pain of those who were hurt in the combat,
the footseps on the stairs and door represent someone running into a central office to call out for help. afterwards can be heard a telephone dialing out.
but its too late, the church organ and goulish yips signifiy that someone has died in the line of fire, and in the end, the tension breaks and there is nothing but silence and the sound of pouring rain, and the rain slowly stops... the end.

In terms of telling a story strictly through sound, you've accomplished your task BEAUTIFULLY. However, I think that music as a genre encloses a slightly stricter definition. Music as an art form encompasses a certain set of rules as to what kinds of sounds to use, and in what patterns they fall into. We're constantly comparing genres to one another, and new genres of music are still being developed, even today.
What I think you've done here is taken the platitude "that's music to my ears", and made it into something deeper, something more personal. You've captured a scene solely in sound that you find enjoyable and portrayed a picture in such a way that anyone who listens to this submission can create their own images to coincide with the sound.
Does it have artistic merit? most definitely.
Is it pleasing to the ears? Depends on the person; I'm not that big a fan of warfare, though I can certainly recognice the time and effort put into creating a piece such as this.
Is it music? Personally, I don't think so.
Regardless, I definitely thing that this is interesting.

"that's music to my ears"
thats exactly what i was thinking when i made this,
im not big into war either in fact i hate it, but i had these sound samples lying around and i was in kind of a bad mood the week i made this,
(it took at least 2 days just to track down all the sounds and at least 3 more to arrange and edit, not to mention applying effects and modifying the original samples ^_^)
this was also the first time i have ever tried something like this,
lots of times i will make some kind of loop or jingle and listen to it and think to myself "WTF kinda genre defines this," and to a degree i dont even care,
because to me, its the creativity, earcandy and arrangement mean more then any lyrics could ever sing,
as far as this being or not being music i will leave it up to the listener to decide.
its kinda like that question "is it art?" my awnser to that would be, if someone took the time to be creative and actually put some work into it and is proud of it, its art,
even if some rapper just made a hit rap song from 2 or 3 fruity loops tracks with him "singing" "hey hey, what what" (grabs his crotch XD)
i will be honest and say i only recorded 2 of the samples that are in this myself,
(the reversed church organ superimposed with the weird slow=to fast voice thingy)
the rest were either free sound effects or snippits from youtube videos
(i edited the crap outta them)
cause that was me playing my keyboard and making noises into my microphone.
(i was going "yeep yeep yeep" i just edited the crap outta it lol)
if you have a subwoofer and the higher quality ogg of this (well over 10MB)
you can "feel" the subsonic nuances of a car alarm
(i slowed it WAYYYYYY down and made it very quiet)
all the above is just my opinion though :) i like a friendly debate now and then.
and totally respect the opinions of others, (even if they think its crap)
but thanks for the feedback,

Air raid sirens scare the hell out of me. I hate war. I hate the idea of it. Most of all, I hate how the people who wind up in control seem to be intoxicated with the power of sending young men off to die in the name of evil.
Regardless, this was an interesting listen.
If John Lennon can feel comfortable putting Revolution #9 on a Beatles album, then this is music.

...Sound collage...music...same thing, right?...
i don't really think so, unless the sound collage is music to ones ears.
..The last one I made caused me have trouble sleeping...
i was up very late at night working on this. i just sort of got carried away.
...I also hate war and the sounds of war more than anything in this world...
if it makes ya feel any better, the sound of the gunfire was actually from a youtube video of some people doing target practice with a .50 caliber browning machine gun.
nobody was killed in the making of this soundscape :)
also, would you believe that the ungodly scream in the middle is actually that of a young woman with a hi-pitched voice?
I applyed gobs of reverb to that sample then slowed it waaaaayyy down.
while the scream was real, she was neither in pain or danger,
the air raid sirens were from a test run and it was a much shorter sample
i had to splice it and loop it.
as complex as this track is, i only used about 16 samples.
the sound of the watch ticking was actually the sound of a grandfather clock ticking doubled in speed for one speaker and quadrupled for the other. :D
the sound at the end was a substation exploding.
i hate war and violence too, but i did this for the sole purpose of seeing what my abilitys were, and i wanted to tell a story doing it..
but thank you for the comment :)
