okay i DID NOT create the original midi for this,
it in fact came from Konami the company itself as the original!
(as far as i know)
i made some changes here and there and added some stuff and rendered and re-synthisied EVERYTHING there are no samples in this that were used in the original game.
I used the following:
cheap filterswept white noise from a generic custom synthedit minimoog
the "Jingle bells" drum sample recorded off my soundcards cheap-ass synth
lots of various free and custom drum samples
there were LAYERS of strings in this mix, even though there was only 2 dedicated string tracks.
2 soundfonts, one with a really nice string section that i layered
with a custom "synth strings" synth made in synthedit
and another that had tremolo strings.
Jeux d'orgues 2.1 can be found here:
http://www.jeuxdorgues.com/
it is an amazing pipe organ soundfont,
the tubular bells were from a soundfont.
and so was the Female Choir Aahs (it gives me the chills )
the second time it loops around i have included a very subtle
303 style bassline (done by another instance of that minimoog clone)
and the way i did it, one oscillator (square wave w/narrow PW)
was going to the filter for the bass element, and using the same synth i set the 2nd oscillator to a sinewave and set it about 2 or 3 octaves up unfiltered, i also turned the gain down for this channel,
that sine is what gives it that creepy little twinkle :D
now for effects:
on the synth strings i made i also used a custom phaser made in synthedit with 8 bands, i had this mixed in about 75% to REALLY thicken up the sound,
(i think i overdid that a little which is VERY obvious when the intro ends and the strings start up)
i also used a custom chorus wiht that after the phaser, to convert its mono outputs to stereo and to add a little color,
the CR-78 snare and kick were the only things not routed to the reverb.
the hi-hat was routed to the reverb which had a short pre-delay to get that weird backwards sound.
Roland Drum Machine samples can be got here free http://www.rolandclan.info/library/
(link updated 12/11/09)
the Reverb was Freeverb2.
while it lacks a gui (the version i use) it is really convincing as far as im concerned. i had the reverb size knob cranked to about 93% for a REALLY BIG SOUND.
if i forgot something i either found it free, or made it in synthedit,
in fact, this whole damn thing was made in synthedit,
THE ENTIRE THING.
audacity was used to trim the ends, fade out and normalize though.
this wonderful track came from Konami's
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
the best game ever to have hit the ps1
i can say this cause i personally own a copy.
You REALLY don't want to piss Alucard off. so you'd BETTER Enjoy it. :D

to get the money for it.

yes <3
its so beautiful with the pipe organ and the choir. and those dark dry drums
the melody is uplifting, depressing, enchanting, dark, and chilling at the same time.
its how all game music should be.
i butchered the beginning with the really simple filter swept white noise for wind :/
but i like the way the rest turned out.
but i really liked all the music from this game though, so much that:
*Cough*I*cough*Made*cough*a*cough*ENTIRE*cough*Mp3*cough*rip*cough*
if you are interested :D (PM me)

it wouldnt be the same if i didnt include those 2 jungle bells at the beginning XD and i looked high and low for those samples and found them nowhere. i finally figured out that the crappy hardware synth built into my soundcard had that sound, so i sampled it off of that, XD
the filterswept white noise that is supposed to simulate wind at the beginning
is REALLY simple and i should have probibly fed that thru a reverb letting only the wet signal thru but i was too tired and got lazy at that point :/
there are Baritone, Tenor and Soprano choir parts all are accounted for by 3 soundfonts.
the drums are mainly CR-78 samples and the kick drum and hat sound from a generic sample pack. the CR-78 kick and snare are not routed to the reverb but everything else is.
the organ part is strictly a single soundfont, but different patches were used in that soundfont for chords bass and lead to simulate it being played on a real organ using several manuals (keyboards)
there were 2 main string parts,
the main part was a string section soundfont layered wiht a string synth i made using synthedit (really thick) with a little phaser in there to really give it some punch,
then as soon as the toms kick in and the tubular bells ring (yet another soundfont)
the violin "stabs" were done with a tremolo string soundfont.
the synth riffs you hear the second time around i added.
and i paired that with a gated synth playing the bass part.
both of those synths are minimoog clones i built in synthedit,
everythign (with the exception of the CR-78 kick, hat and snare)
was fed thru Freeverb2 with the size knob cranked WAY up
lots of chorus and phasers was used all over. again those i made in synthedit.
to top it off. this was played back entirely from within synthedit.
the midi had been arranged in Jazz32 awhich is a free midi sequencer though
i knew that if i was going to try and re-create this masterpiece that i must take as many steps as possible to get all the sounds right.
and to think, im self taught at this doing this stuff... :D
so thanks, =^_^= and Meow!

just keep an eye on my gallery then :D
when i hear a song, i never listen to the vocals the first time around.
i always listen to the MUSIC and i actually analyze the work that has been pot into making such a performance. every minute detail i scrutinize, why? i dont know its like some kind of weird music fetish i have,
its like i try to figure out exactly how the musician creates his sound,
is he using an analog synth?
is he using a Hammond M-100 with no leslie?
is the guitar tuned to an open G?
what effects have been used.
are there any errors?
is there a reverb?
has it been arranged in a way that makes the listeners hair stand on end?
have i heard that sample used in another song?
what did he steal that sound from?
lots of modern rap music is just poetry + a funky ass drum track + a few samples here and there, now im not bashing them but what i like to hear is something that
has been arranged very CAREFULLY it takes lots of TIME to do that,
