No actually not asking for signs and just jumping in.
The old thing was, getting attention from the suiter - open arms - wait for answer.
I also have a "Hugs? Careful" shirt as a friend of mine 2 of his past cons have been ruined by having a weak back and getting glomped/bearhugged/lifted and thus the rest of those cons he was on heavy painmeds :/

Oh wow... thats when you know the hugs are to strong. I persoanlly love hugs but i understand when people dont want them, as in your friends case... thats just over the top.
Hugs are supposed to be warm and gentle
And yeah that can be rude... just stealing a hug... i usually let people hug me... just cuz im lonely x,D
