Sonic the Hedgehog: Bonus Stage NES mix
Well, it’s been a while since I’ve uploaded music, so here’s a new one.
It’s an NES mix of the Bonus Stage from the 8-bit versions of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Just like with my NES cover of Green Hill Zone, I thought “I can do better than those pirates,” so I did!
Again the DPCM channel in the NES meant I could add digitized drums to enhance the sound.
Enjoy!
EDIT: I re-recorded the song with Sega style drum samples converted to NES DPCM format.

Not my fave either, but it was simple and upbeat, so it was good enough for a quick hit.
And about not being true to the original, I think you are referring to the extra percussion track, right?
Because I converted the noise from the SMS version into DPCM drums, I had the noise channel just sitting there doing nothing. So I thought I’d add something that sounded like a wood block or cowbell or something like that.
Also at the end of the loop there are some tom toms that in the original SMS version was simulated with square waves, I couldn’t use the DPCM channel for those since the drums play constantly, and I couldn’t use the triangle channel since it was also in use at the end, so what I end up with didn’t sound quite right and I don’t know how to fix it.
