Oh! Ghod! what a lovely view! A high mountain tarn! Reminds me of when I was SRT, in the Sierra Nevadas, we'd stop for a break in sign-reading or for lunch and a commo check and you'd see this wonderful vista you'd missed because you were looking for sign.... What State is this, please?
I should have guessed NorCal...We trained up there quite a bit.
SRT was hard to deal with for a long time, you'd get all fired up and practically run your search area, hoping for a quick live find and a chopper-ride home.
And then you'd find the body, usually at the bottom of a scree-field, and call in.
When you heard the chopper you'd pop smoke and help the aircrew place the body in the stokes. and you'd ride back with some poor sod in a sack who'd made one too many bad choices.
Desert SRT was worse. I don't think we ever got one living person back. For a long time, I couldn't face mountains without death looking back at me.
