Here's the story I wrote as a birthday gift for http://www.furaffinity.net/user/vanillabeam/ Happy birthday again, Vance :)
Featuring Vance's ponysona Vanilla Beam, my own ponysona Silent Moon and a little cameo of the ponysona of my other friend http://www.furaffinity.net/user/a-f.....of-fanfiction/ named Fox Fire.
Silent Moon decides to get a shrinking potion so he can experience the world as his tiny friend Vanilla Beam sees it.
I'm going to copypaste the story below as usual, but I recommend to download the Word file since a few lines are bolded. With that said, I hope you all enjoy.
VANILLA’S GRAND DAY OUT
Sometimes Silent Moon wondered what other ponies thought when they saw him passing by. Were they creeped out by this strange looking earth pony walking alone with a constantly thoughtful face, like he was always looking inside of his own head instead of in front of him? Because that was what truly happened in his mind most of the time.
On that day, in Silent Moon’s brain there was a loop of every passage of his plan:
1) Go to Fox Fire’s store and buy the potion;
2) Meet Vanilla Beam at the Golden Oak Library;
3) Go back to Canterlot;
4) Reveal your idea to Vanilla.
By now the place where the first phase could start was just a few steps ahead of him; there it was, the potions store of one of the best alchemists in all of Equestria (if not the best) and one of his best friends of all: Fox Fire.
His store was usually crowded with customer, but at that time of the day there was a chance that it was relatively empty. And so far luck seemed to be by Silent Moon’s side, because the store was actually totally empty.
Fox Fire was sitting behind the cash register with a head-phone in one ear, keeping the other ear free in case a customer came in, humming as he listened to some of his favorite songs. And after Silent Moon entered, the alchemist turned around to see who was coming and smiled from ear to ear.
“Hello there, Moon!” He said cheerfully.
“Um, hi Fox!” Silent Moon said, without being totally able to hide how nervous he was. “How are you doing? Gee, I’ve never seen your store being so empty… I hope you’re not having trouble with your business or something!”
Fox Fire shrugged. “Nah, business is doing great like always, this is simply a moment when nopony needs a potion and Pinkie Pie has enough helium. So, in your letter you said you needed a shrinking potion that wears off after twelve hours, right?”
“Yeah, I did. So, how much does it cost again?”
“Cost? Hah! Are you kidding, chum? Here’s a phial, just take it.”
“What? But… I want to support your store and I have a good amount of bits with me…”
“Seriously man, I insist. It’s not one of my most precious potions, and what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t make a gift once in a while? I don’t like nepotism either, but what’s so bad about doing this now and then? Especially when there’s nopony around, let’s take advantage of that, shall we?”
“Hmm, yeah, I guess you’re right. Thanks.”
“No problem, dude. Say, you seem a bit nervous, is everything alright?”
“Well yeah, I am kinda nervous… it’s because of what I plan to do with Vanilla Beam, I’m still not sure if I had a good idea, it’s actually rather risky…”
“Hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? Besides, your plan is actually pretty darn safe compared to what I had to go through in the past, trust me.”
“Yeah, point taken”
The two stallions spent some time chatting about Silent Moon’s trip and the latest shenanigans of Fox Fire and his assistant Gilda, until Silent Moon realized that he really had to go to the Golden Oak Library, where his other best friend Vanilla Beam lived under the care of Princess Twilight Sparkle.
The newest princess of Equestria was reading several books as usual, Spike on the other hoof was spending some quality time with Rarity and Vanilla Beam was watching the latest Equestrian Wrestling Entertainment TV special.
Silent Moon knocked at the door and Twilight teleported herself in front of the entrance to open it right away.
“Greetings, your majesty” Silent Moon said with his usual formality and a respectful bow.
Twilight rolled her eyes with a smirk. She didn’t like being addressed like that, but by now she was used to Silent Moon’s obsequious manners, which never changed no matter how many times she told him he didn’t have to be so classy.
“Hi Silent Moon! You’re strangely late compared to the previous time… never mind, come in, Vanilla is watching TV in the living room.”
Vanilla Beam turned his head away from the screen when he heard the sound of eight hooves stomping towards him. For the shrunken pony, even gentle hoofsteps like those of Twilight (who he liked to call his “siszilla”) and Silent Moon were like intense earthquakes to him, but not only he was used to that, he also kind of enjoyed it.
“Hi there, little buddy!” Silent Moon said as he extended a fore hoof. Although he usually tried to keep a low voice in front of Vanilla, it still sounded loud and booming to the tiny pony.
“Hiya dude!” Vanilla chirped as he jumped on Silent Moon’s hoof.
“So, are you ready to go? I’d love to stay here and catch up for a little longer, but sadly the next train is gonna leave rather soon.”
“No problem big buddy, as you can see I already have my saddlebag with me. I still wonder what you had to do between your arrival and now though…”
“Well… I had some business to handle with another friend, I’ll explain you later when we’re in Canterlot, possibly far from indiscreet ears.”
“Oki dokie, let’s go then.”
“See you soon, Vanilla,” Twilight cooed while she was nuzzling her tiny friend tenderly, “stay safe.”
“Don’t worry, siszilla, I’ll be fine” Vanilla said as he nuzzled back and greatly enjoyed the warmth and softness of Twilight’s gigantic muzzle.
Silent Moon moved his hoof pretty close to one of the pockets on his black jacket and Vanilla jumped in. It was rather hot in there and he still would have preferred to stay on his friend’s mane, but it was still comfortable and at least the always cautious Silent Moon didn’t have to get paranoid about accidentally dropping him.
And so the two friends were ready to go to the train station and leave for the elegant city of Canterlot.
After a pretty uneventful trip spent chatting and avoiding the most curious looking ponies, the two friends were finally in Silent Moon’s flat in Canterlot and Vanilla Beam was making himself at home, putting his things in a large box that Silent Moon had prepared for him so he had a comfortable place to stay during his vacation.
Silent Moon started to sweat… it was time to tell his shrunken friend what he had in mind.
“Alright Vanilla… as I said before, this time I arrived rather late to the library because I needed to talk with another friend; well, this friend is Fox Fire.”
“The alchemist?”
“Yup. And you know how talkative we can get when Fox and I are chatting… but I also needed to get this.”
Silent Moon took a phial full of a red liquid from his saddlebag. Vanilla Beam was not an expert in alchemy but he still recognized the content.
“Wait… is that a shrinking potion?”
“Exactly. You know, I’ve always wondered what it feels like to be as small as you are, seeing everypony as huge giants, every hoofsteps a loud earthquake… I guess I don’t need to tell you why, you know what kind of fantasies I have about giant beautiful mares…”
Vanilla snickered. “Yeah I do.”
“So I got this potion from Fox Fire and… I was thinking that I could actually try to drink it, so we can have an adventure together and I can see the world from your perspective; and maybe even… see a beautiful and gigantic mare… if you think this is a bad idea, just tell me.”
The shrunken pony pondered for a few seconds, then he said: “I say let’s do this! Being small is dangerous and sometimes scary, but it can be very exciting and I really like the idea of you and I hanging around at the same size.”
“Cool! This potion will keep me small for twelve hours, then I will regain my normal size automatically, so we’ll have to preserve our sense of time and make sure we’re in a safe spot when the effect wears off. Okay, here we go.”
Silent Moon delicately put Vanilla on the floor and drank the entire phial of potion, which vaguely tasted like strawberry; it worked in a heartbeat, soon after taking his final sip the stallion already felt his body getting smaller and saw his room growing and growing.
Vanilla Beam trotted towards his friend with an amazed look on his face, seeing somepony he was used to seeing as a giant being now of the same size gave him a feeling he couldn’t be ready for.
Silent Moon was even more astonished, even kind of lost and confused; now his flat almost looked like an alien world, the table were Vanilla previously stood had become some kind of strange tower and the couch looked like a soft and humongous wall. And when Vanilla got close enough, he noticed something…
“V-Vanilla… is it just me or are you a bit taller than me?”
Vanilla laughed. “You’re right dude! Who would have thought?”
“Heh… so I guess I have two reasons not to call you little buddy until I grow again!”
The two friends spontaneously hugged each other. It felt good to be able to do that without any risk for Vanilla to get squished by accident.
“Well, we have twelve hours to make the best of this,” Vanilla said with a smirk, “so let’s get down to business! First of all, if we want to move around Canterlot freely, we’re gonna need a means of transport!”
“You mean… a bug, right?”
“Yeah, riding a flying insect is usually the best way to explore the world in its giant version. The problem is… where can we find one?”
“Well, knowing your adventures helped me in making a plan. Maybe you haven’t noticed it yet, but I put a rope beneath my window that takes right to the windowsill, I got some flowers recently and they’re usually pretty full of bees… you can ride bees, right?”
“Yeah, thanks to my experience I can even ride dangerous insect with poisonous stingers. Okay then, let’s do some climbing!”
Luckily the rope was pretty solid yet fairly thin and easy to climb. It was a piece of cake for Vanilla Beam and he got to the top quite soon; Silent Moon on the other hoof had less experience with that kind of activities and he climbed much slower, panting like a steam engine while Vanilla playfully teased him.
“Come on, hero! You can do this! A hen that lays golden egg is waiting for you!”
‘Sweet Celestia… what was I thinking?’ Silent Moon thought to himself. ‘I really hope it’s going to be worth all this, I haven’t been this sweaty in… all my bucking life!’
With some patience and perseverance, the newly shrunken stallion reached the top and took a break to rest and breathe while Vanilla was analyzing the flowers, which were indeed full of pollinating bugs. He chose a bumblebee who looked the most focused in its vital job… and with an incredibly quick and agile leap he was on the insect’s back, riding it like a wild bull by pulling its antennas like a bridle and kicking its striped body.
“Giddy up!” Vanilla screamed enthusiastically. “Come on Moon, jump and mount, quick! Do it as long as I can keep this beast close enough!”
Silent Moon wasn’t ready for such a sight… he was already rather grossed out by bugs at his normal size, so clearly a giant bumblebee was not a pleasant show at all! But his friend counted on him and he had to jump and do his best if he didn’t want the situation to go out of control, so he acted as quickly as he could and leaped, pretending it was a long jump back in high school during physical education… and he slipped on the giant bug’s round body, but luckily Vanilla grabbed his hoof before he could fall and helped him to go up.
“Well done Moon! Not bad at all for a beginner!” Suddenly he felt his friend’s arms grabbing him from behind and holding him very tight. “Hey dude, are you trying to choke me?!”
“Vanilla… I’M SCARED!”
“Heheheh, yeah the first ride can be too overwhelming, you need to get used to it. Trust me, you’re gonna love it! YEEE-HAAAW!”
For a little while, Silent Moon couldn’t even open his eyes while rivers of tears were leaking through his eyelids, the air hit him violently like a running train and the bumblebee’s loud buzz assaulted his ears. But he knew he had to at least try to take a look around him, flying around Canterlot on a bug was certainly not going to happen many other times. So with a long yet successful effort he opened his eyes… and he dropped his jaw in awe.
Canterlot had never looked so majestic. It was already beautiful when he just trotted on its streets at his regular size, but flying through a huge version of it was entirely different. It felt like living in a dream where he was a Pegasus, flying free in an amazing world, a world that was also inhabited by enormous ponies who looked like colorful living mountains. And now the speed was no longer a source of fear, it actually gave him exhilaration and energy.
“Hey Moon, take a look at that chick!” Vanilla pointed a hoof at a beautiful colossal unicorn with a white coat, pink mane and a cutie mark of three fleurs-de-lis who was sipping tea in front of a bar. “Let’s see if she likes bumblebees, shall we?”
“Wait, what? Vanilla, stop!”
Vanilla cackled and made the bug fly dangerously close to the silver table where the giant cup of tea was.
“Eek! Go away!” The giantess yelled, scaring Silent Moon to death. It certainly wasn’t the best way to be introduced to a loud giant voice, his ears hurt and he felt overwhelmed by the sheer power of the enormous unicorn. But he got even more terrified when he noticed that she was raising a hoof to squash them…
“VANILLA, LOOK OUT!”
BOOM! A gigantic hoof slammed on the table just a few inches away from the bumblebee, which was now flying as far as it could from the unicorn.
Silent Moon could now just keep holding Vanilla as tight as possible, trembling like a rattlesnake with an almost comical look on his face.
Vanilla cackled once more and said: “Now wasn’t that a doozy?”
“M-m-m-maybe I’ll remember it as such… w-when I won’t risk to be crushed!”
“Hah, think about all the time I went through something like that or worse! Don’t worry dude, just stay close to me and you won’t get hurt! Well if you stay any closer than this we’ll fuse into a single pony, but you get the point. Heheheh!”
The incredible flight remained quite uneventful after that little ordeal, until the two tiny adventurers came across the greatest landmark in the entire city: the royal castle. No royal guard could stop them, so they flew pretty close to it to admire its beauty.
“Wow, it’s truly an astonishing building!” Vanilla said “Last time you took me here we didn’t have a chance to get so close to the castle!”
“Yeah… and since I’m not exactly an aristocrat, in all my years as a Canterlot resident I’ve never had a chance to go in, see its garden…”
“Speaking of the royal garden, look who’s wandering around it right now!”
Silent Moon gasped. Princess Celestia herself was having a walk all alone in the wonderful royal garden!
The princess of the sun had been blessed with a few minutes of free time without any tedious yet vital activity, so she was just enjoying some peace and quiet in the garden with a relaxed and blissful look on her beautiful face. She had taken off her golden shoes and she was trotting barehoof, so she could give her aching hooves some rest and fresh air and enjoy the softness of the grass and flowers she was stepping on.
“What do you say, Moon? Shall we take a closer look?”
“Oh yes! Only… try not to startle her, please? Look at her, she’s ginormous! That mare from before was huge, but… we’re dealing with Princess Celestia now! Being squished by her would probably feel like being an ant getting crushed by an elephant!”
“Actually I’m planning to do something… different…”
“In a good way or in a bad way?”
Vanilla smirked mischievously. “That is for you to decide.”
Vanilla Beam made the bumblebee fly so close to the ground that it touched the grass without plummeting to earth, and before Silent Moon could react his friend turned around, grabbed him and forced them both to fall on the grass while the bug flew away, finally free. The fall didn’t hurt very much but it was truly baffling.
Silent Moon rubbed the dirt off his face and yelled: “Vanilla, you FOOL! Have you lost your marbles? Have you decided to get us killed?” But soon after finishing his rant, he easily noticed why they had landed in the first place: all around him there was the most fascinating forest that he had ever seen, instead of trees there were big and smooth blades of grass of the most shining shade of green and lots of huge and beautiful flowers, which filled the place with vibrant colors and sweet fragrances.
“Sorry about the brusque landing, dude,” Vanilla said, “the only way to get off a probably furious bug without getting hurt too much is jumping when the ground is close enough.”
“Oh, it’s OK, Nilla. The garden… it’s even more beautiful from this perspective!”
“Heh, it is, isn’t it? That’s often my only consolation when I’m alone and lost in an area full of grass, it truly looks like another world. The only real problem comes when…”
Boom, boom, BOOM… Vanilla didn’t need to finish his sentence, the alarming thuds that made the ground shake and kept getting louder and louder explained everything.
“Horseapples!” Silent Moon cried “I almost forgot the gargantuan princess! And she’s coming this way, I can feel it!”
“Keep calm, dude, she’s trotting quite slowly and when you’re at the hooves of a giant it feels like time was slowing down, we just have to pay attention and stay far from where her hooves are going to land, if we don’t distract ourselves, I’m sure we’re going to see something wonderful!”
By now the two shrunken ponies could see the spectacular giant body of the ruler of Equestria. It was truly a sublime sight… the princess of the sun had never looked so huge, omnipotent and beautiful; her legs looked like the tallest pillars in the world, built to reach the heaven above and touch it, and in said heaven there was the elegant, graceful, snow white yet extremely powerful body of Celestia. She was so gigantic that they couldn’t even see her face, but her eternally moving mane was certainly visible and it made the sky look magic, like a gate to paradise had just been opened.
Silent Moon was so hypnotized by that spectacle that he was almost no longer scared of the extremely powerful earthquakes caused by the giantess’ stomping hooves, accompanied by the sound of soft grass bending underneath them. In truth those quakes were somehow terrifying and beautiful at the same time to him, when the ground trembled under his hooves it was like the princess of the sun was reminding him how capable she was to squash him like an ant in spite of her beauty and her benevolent nature.
“Careful now!” Vanilla exclaimed when he saw that Celestia’s humongous hoof was looming right above their heads.
Silent Moon didn’t run as instantaneously as he expected. Celestia’s bare hoof was so mesmerizing, clearly she took extremely good care of it, the underside was perfectly smooth and polished, completely lacking any kind of blemish. For a moment Silent Moon couldn’t help admiring it and wondering how it could be so clean and perfect even though she had been stepping on so much grass without wearing her shoes. But there was not time for that, if he didn’t move he was going to be paste underneath that hoof, not only ruining his perfection but also ending his own life!
Vanilla Beam and Silent Moon decided to run beneath Celestia’s belly, which probably wasn’t too safe since there were still the hind hooves to avoid, but the two ponies really wanted to enjoy every bit of their unique experience, the risk didn’t matter.
The tiny ponies barely avoided the ginormous hoof, which landed dangerously close to their tails and emitted an overwhelmingly loud and strong earthquake that made them trip for a moment while the grass behind them was getting powerfully stomped on. But it was totally worth it. Celestia’s belly was just as perfect as all the rest of her body, you could feel the extreme softness of her coat without even touching it and due to its enormity it pretty much replaced the blue of the sky with its pleasant whiteness.
For a few seconds, Vanilla and Moon just kept trotting beneath Celestia and admiring her giant body, but when they got pretty close to her back hoof they immediately got ready to run away and avoid its (literally) crushing power. However, they were about to have a horrible reminder that they and Celestia weren’t the only living creatures in the garden…
A monstrous giant beetle was right in front of the two ponies. They didn’t know what species it was (probably some exotic and rare type since it was the royal garden) and they didn’t really care, what truly mattered was that it looked like he was going to eat them both!
This time both ponies screamed in terror, not even Vanilla knew what to do, he sure had experience in riding flying bugs who normally weren’t interested in him but he still had problems in facing hungry insects that were going to have him for dinner!
The monster opened its jaws and quickly moved to catch one of the two little ponies. Vanilla was fast and agile as usual and he managed to avoid him, but he realized that he had little to celebrate when he heard his friend crying “VANILLA! HELP ME!”
Silent Moon was in the bug’s horrid jaws, struggling not to get eaten by punching and kicking his enemy’s face, his survival instinct the only thing that prevented him from being paralyzed by the utter terror he was feeling.
Vanilla ran toward the beetle with a furious expression and pounced on its ugly head, yelling “LET HIM GO, YOU FREAK!” as he started to punch it along with his mate.
The beetle finally gave up and dropped Silent Moon, but just when Vanilla was checking if his friend was alright, the bug looked like it was going to try again… until all the three little creatures noticed another menace that threatened them all: Celestia’s hoof, which was by now too close to be avoided.
“Well, I guess it’s the end,” Silent Moon said somberly, “it was fun having an adventure as a tiny pony along with you Vanilla, I regret nothing.”
“Oh no, don’t even try to say that! We have to make it somehow! We have to!”
But it was way too late. Celestia’s bare hoof came closer and closer, rumbling like a sign of the wrath of nature and obscuring the light entirely…
BOOM!
Both adventurers were by now convinced that they were already dead… but yet their bodies didn’t feel flattened or hurt at all and Celestia’s sole didn’t feel like a huge stone crushing them, it was actually the softest surface they had ever touched. And they received another sign that they were still alive when they heard Celestia’s booming yet soft and pleasant voice saying with surprise: “Oh! Wait, these don’t feel like bugs!”
The giantess quickly raised her hoof, letting the ponies and the beetle go. The bug ran away in panic, but the ponies were too confused to say or do anything, so they just stood there while the huge princess stepped back a little making sure not to step on them again and kneeled down to see what felt funny under her hoof.
The humongous princess looked at them with a curious expression, her feminine eyes were like two large and shining mirrors where the ponies could see how pathetic they looked in their petrified stated and her nostrils were two black holes that inhaled their order to understand what they were more easily.
Silent Moon felt screwed… the monarch was going to be mad and punish them…
“Well, hello there, Vanilla Beam!” The princess boomed with a warm smile “I didn’t expect to see you here. Who’s your… little friend?”
As impossible as it sounds, Silent Moon felt reassured and more confused at the same time.
Vanilla kneeled and said: “Your majesty, this is Silent Moon. I’ve met him recently and we quickly became friends, this is the second time he has taken me with him to Canterlot. Today he’s as small as I am because he wanted to know how it feels to be me and he drank a shrinking potion. We’re terribly sorry for sneaking in your garden without permission, I swear we had no malevolent intention, we were just exploring.”
“W-wait,” Silent Moon stuttered, “y-you know the princess?”
“Well duh, I live with her protégé, how could I not have met her at least once in my life?”
“Touché… well, greetings, your highness, it’s my greatest pleasure to meet you.”
Celestia chuckled and said: “Pleasure’s all mine, little one.”
“If I’m allowed to ask a question,” Silent Moon continued, “how come we survived being stepped on by you?”
“Nothing can die under my hooves when I’m not wearing my shoes, it would be against the nature. I’m an important part of the forces that keep Equestria alive, if my bare hooves killed any little creature it would be like I was murdering a part of myself. Now let me put both of you in a safer spot.”
The alicorn stood up and used her magic to levitate the two shrunken ponies until they were just above her head. The ascent was scary and exciting at the same time for Silent Moon, who wasn’t as used to that as his friend was, he kept rising higher and higher like he was reaching the place where the Pegasi lived.
Princess Celestia delicately put her two little subjects on her ethereal mane, allowing one of their greatest dreams come true. Both ponies had always wondered how it felt to touch Celestia’s moving multicolored mane, and it felt wonderful. The softness was unreal, It felt like swimming in a sea full of gentle wave that caressed their bodies, a sea that looked as beautiful as a rainbow and where they couldn’t drown. It was so relaxing that they barely noticed the movement when the giantess started to trot again.
“Tell me, Silent Moon: what kind of drinking potion did you drink? Do you need an antidote?”
“No, your majesty. In twelve hours I’ll regain my original size. But ironically… I forgot how long ago I drank the potions. So many adventures kind of distracted me…”
Vanilla reassured him: “Chill dude, while you were telling me about the twelve hours I remember I calculated you were going to grow again in the nighttime, certainly while sleeping, and the sun hasn’t set yet.”
“Very well. By the way, have you eaten dinner yet?”
“No, your majesty” The ponies on her mane answered.
“Good, I was going to eat something right now, let me offer you something.”
Vanilla Beam and Silent Moon felt very honored and very embarrassed at the same time. “Really? Your highness, you don’t have to…”
Celestia giggled “Come on, don’t be shy, it will be a pleasure for me. And after that, let me take you home, so you can have a safe return.”
The small ponies were almost moved to tears. “Thank you so much my liege,” Vanilla said, “you are too kind!”
“No problem my dear, I’m just doing what I have to do with a nice little pony like you and his friend.”
The princess put her shoes back on and walked inside the castle, where the royal chefs had made her a delicious dinner with a refined soup of violets and daffodils and a chocolate cake for a dessert. Her two little friends greatly enjoyed it all and she had no problem whatsoever in sharing her food, just some very little portions were a copious meal for them.
All three of them had a good time eating and talking about their incredible day and telling the princess some of the adventures of Vanilla Beam.
After dinner, Celestia put the tiny ponies back on her mane and flew to the address that Silent Moon had told her. Even while flying, the divine softness of her air made it impossible for them to feel any fear or dizziness.
“You know Vanilla, even with all the scares… it was awesome. I had a really good day. Thanks for the adventure.”
“No, thanks to you buddy. It was great to have a companion of my same size, especially on an adventure in Canterlot. You know, I almost regret that you’re about to become big again tomorrow… what do you say, shall we do this again one day?”
“Heh, yeah if one day I feel brave enough I’ll certainly get another shrinking potion. Anything for you.”
The two friends hugged each other. Meanwhile, Princess Celestia lowered the sun while flying.
When she arrived to Silent Moon’s flat, the princess flew in through the window and delicately landed, then she used her telekinesis to put the small ponies on each other’s bed. She tenderly nuzzled them both and wished them sweet dreams before flying away. The fur on her muzzle felt just as divinely smooth and relaxing as they both expected, it did wonders in helping them to fall asleep quite easily.
Silent Moon returned to his usual size while he was sleeping and he didn’t even notice it. He and Vanilla Beam were both too busy enjoying one of the best slumbers in their entire lives.
