Still a virgin, probably will be for a very long time. I'm quite shy, very bad at meeting new people, and haven't even got up to the "holding hands" level with any girl. All not exactly ideal things for losing one's virginity.

Still haven't swiped my vcard. There's nothing really keeping me abstinent other than there being a population of zero gay furries that I know of in my town. I can't really see myself with anyone that isn't a furry, it's too much a part of my life and I don't do vagoo so that kinda narrows my options to nothing. My town is practically non-existent.

idk, the suggestion I've got is to go to pounced.org. I think it's kind of like a furry myspace where you can search for other furries in your town. I'm really not that curious to see who in my town is a furry so I don't really know but you could try it out if you want to try to find other furries in your area.

Thinking maybe it should be specified to what people consider losing their virginity. To some any sexual contact (like oral) is a virginity-losing deal, while others consider penetration. Because the specifics could change some answers, and people have their own opinion to what is losing your virginity, I think it would be another interesting aspect to see.

Abstinence is an important yet I don't think that abstinence only teaching in school is the way to go and stressing that being the only lifestyle. There needs to be an understanding that abstinence is okay, but if you're going to do it, you need to be smart and educated about it. And that is my take on that!

I think this actually helped me emotionally. I ended up having so much sex before the raging hormones of puberty, than I was much more level headed, and quite possibly didn't have to deal with a teen pregnancy situation.

I think the people who think that sex is some kind of "forbidden fruit," and say that you have to with until marriage end up becoming twisted.

I was... I want to say 10 with a girl who was 5 or 6 years older. General thoughts were meh. As for being furry or anything else I would say undefined because the internet did not exist much outside of BBS and colleges. I identified with equines and had my affinity for but did not know what furry was. Same for her.

Do I regret it? not really. If I had to do over again I would have skipped my own species but thats for another argument this group has already had.

As far as the humans I have been active with... I would say about half were in the fandom.

As for the younger generation mind you this is my observations. It concerns me all the rather open sexuality at cons and gatherings. Being raised a good little catholic I know abstinence does not work but I feel there is a mentality that furries feel safe having sex with other furs but there is some funk you can pick up at cons that chlorox cant cure. Use protection. Personally I would not mind seeing condoms offered or similar. I know most organizers could contact the local planned parenthood, aids outreach, etc group and they would gladly put a big bowl of condoms, lubes, guidebooks, etc out for free so maybe the spur of the moment encounters might pause and slip on a raincoat where as they would otherwise be unavailable in most hotels. I find trends in the furry population statistic wise tend to mirror the general population. If its a risk in the general population it is in the furry population. Even though my risk is low due to my lifestyle I still get tested for the full spectrum every year because I tend to do a lot of work in the medical field.

I first had sex at 17. I was a furry, but it wasn't with a furry. I've never given other furries special rights to my social life in any way. Other than my partner, who got into the fandom through me, I've only had sex with one furry, and it wasn't even at a con.

I don't really want to talk about "loosing virginity" because I don't want to legitimize the importance placed on the idea. Referring to a lack of action as a possession is just silly, and a moral holdover of times long past. Safe sex is important (very, very important), and I'm not going to get on someone for having a moral or ethical code that says they shouldn't have premarital sex, but the same needs to be returned: a con trying to keep people from having consensual sex would be pretty bullshit.

I was pretty old really; 24. Even so, she was older, experienced, non-furry, though I did draw a few pictures of her as a lioness afterwards. It was fun, for what it was, but it lacked being... special. There were no "I love yous," just a fairly spontaneous act of passion. Good feeling in the groin, then separate beds for the rest of the night. Regret? Not really sure. Felt good but was kinda cheap, like getting the 1-line prize in bingo.

Since that I've only really had one girlfriend, she wasn't furry, but was supportive of all things artistic; think we hooked up because she had been browsing through my galleries of furry smut and liked what she saw xD She stayed the night and made me feel wanted, and I think that's what really matters. First time was just sex, this was making love, and it's better, it really is.

I tend to be quite reclusive, and if not for the two girls I've known being pretty forward, I'd likely still be virgin. Would I be a different person? Unlikely; I live alone and prefer to do so. All choices are mine, responsibility none but myself. I don't know anyone who would indulge in sex-for-friendship, and I'm not prepared to sleep with strangers, so I guess I end up pretty celebate by choice and circumstance. Oddly it doesn't bother me. Suspect I lack a pair-bonding gene.

As to keeping younger people abstinent... mixed thoughts. Truth be told, most people at 20 are not the same person they were at 13-18. They think different, act different, and often regret choices they made. People tend to rush forward because they think they'll feel better about themselves after having sex. You know what? Nothing changes. Nothing. Losing your virginity to some other kid in a car park is, I'm told, not as fun as you'd hope at first, and neither is giving a handjob round the back of the garages. You'll certainly not feel better, and are likely to feel worse.

Be... affectionate towards your partner. Be friends, be in love, be somewhere safe and comfortable, be unhurried, but do not be rushed into it just cos you feel people will look down on you for staying virgin. Do whatever you do because you feel happy with your partner, because you feel warm in their presence, because you want to make them feel good. If you're not ready, say so; a partner you want to be with will understand. A partner who doesn't want to wait is not respecting you and never will, don't delude yourself otherwise.

Be responsible about sex, but don't deny it for the wrong reasons; if you want to, and can do so safely, and you're in a clear state of mind, and not being pressured, there's nothing wrong with it. But there is also nothing wrong with not having met someone you want to sleep with yet. It's just one state of being, and implies no failure on your part. Perhaps it implies your standards are higher than most.

Oh, and if you ever want to put someone off sex the harsh way, get their parent(s) to talk to them about it. Seriously, the moment you realise your folks still do it, you want nothing to do with the matter xD

i fully support anyone who chooses to be abstinent, i think it is a good way to find a mate who apretiates more than a firm body, but i don't think it's for everyone. i lean more in favor of teaching good safe sex practices as well as warning abut abuse and jerks who just want an easy lay.

I agree with you, I was also had a religious upbringing (which I'm not saying is bad but) that stuff really sticks. Sometimes it's hard when it comes back to you, I feel guilty once in a very great while...but generally it's alright.

I think this is going to be less a discussion and more a big ol' list. People's views on sexuality are personal, and you can't really find fault in them most of the time, because it all goes back to the individual, less we get some really religious zealot who thinks sex should wait for marriage. I don't see why the furry fandom should try to help people abstain from sex. If two (or however many) people decide to have sex then they should go for it. They don't need the rest of the fandom butting in. I think anytime people try to apply rules to when you can have your first time (not until you're 18, not until you're married, etc.) they usually end up not making that much sense. Every person and relationship is particular and it's hard to effectively generalize between them. I can make one generalization though that is true almost 100% of the time: you know less about another person's relationship than they do, and they are more qualified to make decisions about it than you are.

If any person thinks that people should wait until marriage or until they're older before having sex, well they're welcome to write a journal post about it or whatever, but there's no way you'd get the entire fandom behind a single cause like that. The fandom is just a loose association of fans. It's not a unified organization and I don't think it should try to be.

But maybe it doesn't have to be the whole fandom. Possibly a group of furries could make a "Furries for Abstinence" LJ group or something along those lines. It wouldn't surprise me if something like that already existed. But very likely it wouldn't change anyone. People who already supported abstaining would join it, people who wanted to have sex or already did wouldn't join it, and it'd just cause a lot of arguments that never went anywhere.

Actually, there are safe sex awareness groups in the fandom. It got scary after some people were overheard at a con saying dumbass shit like "we're animals, we can't get AIDS!" and "Condoms aren't for gay sex, they only prevent pregnancy" and "I've got HIV! I hate myself and so I'm gonna go spread this around!" All true, btw. But yeah, there's a safesex group on LJ. We even had a safe sex panel at Morphicon this year. I was raised in a strong Christian home, and the values placed on Sexuality in that home are ones that have followed me throughout my life, and have shaped my views on the world as I move on into my adult life, as well.

Much of what I have come to learn about my sexuality, however, comes with hindsight rather than what some of you would call "mindless puritan brainwashing." I've lived my life and made my mistakes. I was fully able to abuse the networking privileges afforded to us with the blessing/horror of the internet to meet people... And that's exactly what I did.

I was 16, and at the time I thought it was love... Or at least that's what I told myself. But people, there's a difference between gettin' your jollies off and love, and I regret that I didn't wait. I feel that a view of sex that does not take into consideration that emotional connection that you make with each and every person you are with is a view that is painfully short-sighted.

I believe I read somewhere in this discussion that the concept of virginity is a concept 'not worth validating' because it is essentially applying a term to a lack of action. We give virginity it's symbolic meaning not because of the mere act of having sex, but because that first time is supposed to be with someone special. I feel too often that people nowadays have lost sight of the fact that sex is an act of exposing ourselves to one another in discourse.

Sure, we can cheapen that experience. I've had a one night stand (It was never meant to be a one time thing... but it ended up that way) and I've made booty calls, and I feel like a complete ass to be able to say both of those statements and know that they're true. But cheapening that experience means losing that conversation... that emotional, wordless connection that goes far beyond simply reading each other's body language. If you know what I'm talking about then I suspect you'd be hard pressed to find a better word to describe it than 'spiritual'... regardless of your religious views.

If I had had that with my first partner, I could look back with satisfaction... But I was not disciplined enough to understand my upbringing, and as a result I threw away an important experience in my life in favor of youthful exploration.

If I had waited for Nuri (I'd have been 17) I probably would not regret it. If I had waited for Simon (I'd have been 19) I -definitely- would not regret it. I don't know how people can say that virginity is nothing.

It's really great to hear you describe sex in that spiritual way, because I believe that sex is a VERY important part in loving someone. I'm actually REALLY happy that it seems the majority of people here believe that sex is something that should be reserved for love. Yes, it is spiritual! It's not a religion thing. I'm not Christian. Love is spiritual, and sex is sort of a "higher connection" thing.

I see FAR. TOO. MANY. people my age who don't see things this way, and, to be honest, I feel bad for them. They may see me in a bad light for not "playing the field," as they say, but it is me who feels bad for them. Love is a very loose word now, and it can still be difficult to know when it is love except for that very indescribible feeling you get inside. There is a big difference between the US and the UK in terms of the use 'love'. In the US it seems to be the biggest compliment that you can give someone, and so it doesn't surprise me when you see programmes about people who say they love one another and go sweeping into another technicolor hollywood ending - but this also explains why it can be a term that is used simply for being able to get someone, be it emotionally or physically.

In the UK it's almost the reverse, where you rarely here the word love being used at all, and when it is used you can get a quick 'no you don't' as a reply, which is more often than you'd think. But when it does come around it's great and makes you feel ecstatic. I guess this is a half agreement with what you say, but just to mention that the term 'love' is ambiguous and changes between different cultures, even in the west.

I don't particularly regret it, just that it was clumsy, foolhearty and in my back garden at night with a girl who was 19 at the time. I feel that there is too much pressure on virginity and certainly image nowadays and that can really scare people into the way they think and act. I've known plenty of virgins in their 20s+ and I'm not shocked or put off, it's just one of those things.

To be honest, the fandom doesn't have a very big following here in England and the only place where it does happen is perhaps London, where it is too damn expensive to go to anyway. I don't particularly think there is anything that you can put in place or set up to help with younger furries, but the only thing that one can do is to be open and to speak openly about things - talking is an excellent way to bounce ideas off one another and also to put some personal issue worries at rest. Luckily I think the fandom as a whole is very open and giving, and so if younger furries needed to talk to someone about certain issues, that we would be happy to do so.

I was 6 when I lost mine. I'm not going into detail because remembering isn't very nice. Anyway, I sure wasn't a furry (even though I had a massive plushie collection and despised the idea of having baby dolls), I certainly regret losing it at a very young age but I don't find it that important. Its just the first time you had sexual intercourse or activity. Sure. Sex can be a very wonderful, passionate and a very horrible, live changing thing but if you really think of it, sex shouldn't matter much. I mean, I didn't see my dog get excited when she lost her virginity to another dog and had puppies. Its just...life. And I do feel the fandom pressures (and society period) young people to lose it too quickly. Mainly males. If a female loses her virginity at a young age (by consent), she is a whore. When a male does it, he is a stud and a player. I am a horn dog and sex is somewhat important to me. I feel its one of the best ways to get close to someone and a very good way to release stress. But, you know, there is other things in life.

On joining the fandom i was never pressured int hat way. I never do pressure someone, and if they ever change thier mind and they say no, i stop there and back off to friendly hugs and cuddles.

I have always held the fandom is just a microcosm of Humanity. All its faults we have. I think the only difference is it strips away a little of that uptightness society has. Something I consider a good thing, and the FFC doesn't. I like the fact some one can be gay in the fandom and not be rejected except by some of the most extreme fundies (even Furry has 'em, remember: microcosm).

People will push it. (beastiality for that hot button example.) some may push their own views too far. Mutual respect is whats key, not pushing your view. Accept someone is different.

Sorry if these were boring answers. I don't have a lot of opinions on the subject because, as I said, it's something that I don't feel I have the right to judge for everyone else, just for myself, and the only thing I would encourage is that if you are going to lose your virginity, use your head in the process.

I feel like I'm filling out a survey more than I am taking part in a discussion, but here we go.

I was about 15 when I lost my virginity (to my still-boyfriend, both of us have not had sex with anyone else). It was after the point in my life when I started drawing anthro art, but that really has very little to do with it, as my boyfriend is not and never has been a furry and I don't really see my participation in the furry fandom as having anything to do with sex. At all. I do not regret having lost my virginity at that point and I'm very glad it was with him and not someone else. As I said before, my sex life is something entirely separate from the part of me that enjoys creating anthro art or partaking in this community, so my opinions about sex and abstinence will not change whether applied to someone within the fandom or outside of it.

I think sex is a normal and healthy thing. I don't think there's anything wrong with having sex with someone you love, or even someone you don't. The key is to know what's right for you and to always consider the consequences of your actions. If you don't want to get pregnant or get someone else pregnant, do everything in your power to stop that from occurring. Same if you don't want to get diseases.

Every so often people who know both my boyfriend and I and know how long we've been together ask SO WHEN ARE YOU GUYS GOING TO HAVE KIDS? They are often baffled and surprised when my response is "When we're ready." It shocks me how many people out there go ahead and have children before they are ready or before they can really support a child and act as if it wasn't something they could have controlled. If I can be sexually active for 5 years withouth ever getting pregnant either I am either sterile or I'm doing something right that some folks just aren't getting. It's funny that these same people encourage me to go have kids with my boyfriend and make the same mistakes they did. I get a good chuckle out of that.

I think half the reason that people make these mistakes is because they don't understand their own bodies. I could easily place most of the blame for that on how people just don't want to teach kids about sex anymore. It's too "iffy" a topic, and in this state they don't have any real form of "sex education." When I lived in Vermont I got our earliest sex ed class in about 4th or 5th grade. It began with simple talks about how our bodies would change, how periods worked, etc. The last sex ed class I experienced in that state was in 7th grade when they explained the different kinds of contraception, how people got pregnant, STDs, and the works. When I moved to Washington, a state that is more conservative about teaching its youth about sex, I found that women (ADULTS) had no idea that they didn't pee out of their vagina. I about cried. This is probably why they have no idea how they even get pregnant and end up with tons of kids. They just. Don't. Know. UGH.

I don't think we should honestly. This country does have this wierd idea that sex is somehow naughty for teens (hey, hello, that's when the hormones are RAGING). It is their time to explore. We shouldn't be preaching abstinence to them, we should be council to them for informed choices, be it ALL choices: abstinence, condoms, etc. Because, face it, abstinence does NOT work.

If this were true, the healthiest people would be the horniest (or at least, have the most incentive). We look at sex as a very primitive thing largely governed by genes and the spread of seed, but the more complex and more intelligent the life form, the more sophisticated the sexual behavior. Lesser animals may very well mate with anything that's available, but we don't just have sex with our friends, and neither do primates.

Intercourse gets all the attention largely because it's the easiest part, not because it's important. Mr. Casanova isn't considered a respectable person because he gets laid more than anyone else. In fact, it's largely the opposite.

Everybody is capable of that kind of thinking. Frankly, I find that last statement rather pessimistic, as if you have simply accepted that people can't be better than what they are. I don't think it really is that aggressively wired into our heads.

I know you are being funny, but I'll answer that with a serious response since I'm in a serious mood.

Sexual experiences when you are younger give you the experience you need to make sex less awkward later in life (college and beyond). If you learn when it's awkward for everybody, it's easier. Besides, this is probably what nature intended since 16-18 is probably when the teenagers hit their peak. If you don't learn the valuable social skills to deal with the opposite sex, which come with said experiences, you'll also be less successful finding a more permanent relationship.

Perhaps I was too mature for my age, but to me, people saying they regret not losing their virginity at such a young age implies that the intercourse is more important than the friendship. I knew people in a relationship that decided to break up because they wanted to get more experience with dating other people. It's a sad thing to watch people justify their impatience as wanting more experience, rather than trying to truly understand companionship. People grow out of this phase on their own without sex.

There's a lot said about the awkwardness of growing up. Well, when I was a kid, I noticed that my tonsils were starting to form large holes that filled up with food particles, I had a giant mole on my right shoulder with thick hairs growing out of it, and I was regularly gaining weight even though I exercised a lot. I was scared my tonsils would have to be taken out, I might have cancer, and I knew nothing about proper nutrition. My health course didn't tech me a damn thing about that stuff. But, they sure did make sure I knew everything about my penis, and that jelly alone didn't protect against AIDS.

Given that most of the classes were full of people falling asleep, rather than giggling, I'd assume there wasn't much awkward about it. The kicker is, that was before the Internet was widely available, too.
