A TGV Atlantic at its arrival at the Poitiers railway station.
The quarter of the railway station of Poitiers has been bombed by the RAF in the night of the 12th to the 13th June 1944 because of the presence of the SS division Das Reich which did, the 8th June 1944, the massacre of Oradour Sur Glane. The bombing were really accurate, the railway station was near to be the only place to be bombed, the other place of the city which was bombed was the place of the Law Court where the bombs will fall on the German Administration Headquarter and on a hotel occupied by the Germans officers and their families.
This night, 173 were killed and 198 others were wounded by 500 tones of bombs.

Of all manners, sometimes, if you listen the americans, everybody are cowards! 4
But what did the RAF during the war was really hard because they did tight formation during the night and they couldn't see the night fighters of the enemy.
At Châtellerault, a city at 30km at the north of Poitiers, two Lancasters bombers which entered in colision above a forest during a turn, there were only one survivor, the others died with their bombers.

It's nice to see that there's people who see the reality of the things, the battle of France is very little known, the great battle that we can name it's the one of Dunkerque, and same for us, French people, we don't know a lot of things about this battle, the National Education learn to the students the Shoah, the fight on the eastern front and the Liberation but the period of 39-40 is forgotten. And same if France suffered a resounding defeat, this battle saved the UK in a manner because the French Air Force shot down something like 800 germans aeroplanes for less losses but the French aviation, which had fought from 1939 to the end of the battle on June 1940, was forgotten. If you ask to an infantry veteran what he think about the French aviation during the Battle of France, he'd told you that it was nonexistent but this last acted every days, 5 times per days and changed of airfield very often, near of three times per week and more of that, our pilots were flying with downgraded aeroplanes in front of those of the Germans. Here's a little documentary with english subtitles about the aviation during the battle of France:

But the main reason of our defeat was the fact that all our higher officer were to old and they applied the same strategy than in 14-18 but this new war was totally different.
For the actions of the Bomber Command and of the USAF over Germany were near to be useless because that doesn't forced the capitulation of the Germany but at least, that maybe help the Allies infantry to have less resistance in the last months of the war.
