With a spectrum of wildly unique powers, military commanders in the Troika would need to see at a glance what the general capabilities of a soldier cover. I figured a simple visual system of categorizing powers would be best, perhaps in the form of a patch or something, to convey basic info rapidly in chaotic battlefield conditions.
This is the rough draft for the power charting system used by the Troika- I figure it would be coupled with an intensity scale ranging from 1-6, with 6 being an overwhelming and rare level of potency.
Due to a filing flub I lost the high-resolution PSD version of this, but recreating it is on my list of Things to Eventually Do. I'd like to release a version with PNG logos, something that would make it really easy for readers to download and create power icons for their characters.
For the uninitiated, Dreamkeepers is an ongoing graphic novel series: http://www.dreamkeeperscomic.com/Intro.htm

^ So, what would a Troika soldier assume from this combination on someone's patch?

The summoning/manifestation thing is easy enough, even if there're a bunch of variations within that category, but since the other/multiple could literally be anything in the first category except a single one of the others...
► It could be an ability that influences the user and separate individuals...
► It could influence separate individuals, but only within a certain region of the user...
► It could influence the user, but only if they have line of sight of themselves...
► It could be line of sight but only to a certain distance from the user...
► Line of sight but influencing a region...
► Selected individuals but with no limit to the range...
► It could be that the ability only influences a specific room of a specific building. (Other)
So for specific abilities...
► Manifesting chains which connect and entangling all individuals within 0-50 metres of the user (including the user).
► Shooting bees from the user's hands, but they'll only go where the user can see and cannot go any further than a hundred metres from the user.
► Spawning golden coins inside the pocket of the user's brother, no matter where they are.
► Creating a clone of the user, but the user needs to be able to see their reflection to do it.

Well for the character concept this is for, maybe there would be a better symbol. The character makes contact with objects and animates them, allowing them to act on spoken or empathic command on the character's behalf. Animating tools would allow them to be used for work, animating weapons would allow them to be used to attack, and animating a suit of armor would allow it to walk around and effectively function as a mediocre guard.
Nice....always wanted to see a power chart of some sort =D
I wonder if combinations could be viable if a DK has full control of their abilities though; in your example, a DK could be a Forcefield user, but let's say this user has learned to manipulate the forcefield, allowing it to be wrapped around his/her hand, which they can then use as a bludgeoning weapon. Now we have a user who is not just a shield user, but a kinetic impact user as well...
Of course, I'm sure limitations must be put in place (i.e. Can't have full barrier shield and barrier weapon at once), but if combinations are possible, it would be so beast XD

I think power combinations would be totally possible- a lot of powers are like tools, versatile in their application.
But for the icons are primarily for field commanders that, due to circumstances, don't already know the power of the soldier in front of them. And without a lot of time to consider nuance, the icon is put together to best represent the primary application of their power. Too many symbols would get difficult to read at a glance.
It doesn't capture any subtlety, but it one bold symbol makes for a decent one-second general identification system. 8 )

See now that I'm looking back at this again and hoping for that Troika patch from the Kickstarter, I'm thinking about having a patch made of the power set I have in mind to go with said Troika patch. Seems like it'd make a fun set... but I'm curious about that intensity scale of 1-6... what would be the best way to convey that? I'm sure you already have your own ideas but I immediately went for the six colors of the rainbow (I say six because the "seventh" is a transitional color to a transitional color, primarily there for completing an acronym) since if it needs to be assessed at a glance a color would be the quickest method, though I suppose that colorblindness would hamper that effectiveness somewhat.
Color is a good idea- although I think you already identified one possible shortcoming.
And even for those who can see in full color, a lot of battlefield scenarios may involve low-light situations, or red emergency lighting, or any number of optical situations that would negate hue.
I think instead just having a big bold numeral next to the symbol is how they would do it- ensures value contrast for maximum readability. Although I'd be open to other ideas too- there might be cooler or more practical ways to indicate power level. 8 )

I've thought about it a lot and I think this chart is limited...
Or, at least, we can't represent a power with only 2 symbols. The best example is Lilith's power: David (or Liz) answer me that this power was Bio-Lethal. Through it's true that it ends killing creatures/people if used too much, it also heal the user, so 2 more symbols are needed, making a total of 4.
As for Namah, her power, classified as Energy Discharge, also has Kinetic Impact, making it a 3 symbols power.
There was also the power level of the power ( ): can powers become more powerful as you use them more and more? I think they do, so the numeration of the power level loses some of its meaning; I mean, look at Bast, I don't want to spoil or reveal anything so I'll say his power seems to have increased but maybe but may have been a one time thing...
