So, while trying to come up with some underused critters for characters, i came up with this guy :v

so, this is Joey, a young giant clam who lives alone in a small sandy clearing of a coral reef somewhere near the ocean's surface.

Joey lives a fairly peaceful life, often spending time in his little corner of the reef, collecting corals and other pretty objects he finds on his explorations. one of his most prominent hobbies consists of making pearls to which he has become quite skilled, even learning how to make colored ones. he still has a ways to go though to catch up with his mother's abilities. despite not being the most mobile creature of the sea, he still manages to adventure around a bit thanks to his strong, stretchy arms and ability to propel himself with a jet of water. still, don't expect him to get tremendously far, especially since he often stops to look at the scenery.

Joey is a friendly, if somewhat quiet sort, often spending more time daydreaming than communicating. of course, living on his own does cause a bit of loneliness and he's always happy to meet another friend. if one becomes good enough friends with him, he has a tendency to make them their own pearl which he gives to them as a symbol of his friendship. he can be a bit stubborn at times when it comes to asking him do do something he doesn't want to do, but eventually he's bound to lend a hand. despite not being very mobile, Joey has a mind for adventure and has been all over the reef which he calls home, always finding something interesting along the way. he is however a bit afraid to venture out into open sea where the light grows dimmer and the vibrant colors of his home are nowhere to be seen. still, he's fairly courageous and may one day venture out if he needs to.

as mentioned, Joey has a fondness for making pearls. though he has come quite a ways, he's still nowhere's near his mother's ability. he will often make stacks of pearls when he has enough to make one. as a result, his little haven is full of these little stacks, though they are very neatly arranged. he can also produce a powerful adhesive substance that he can use to stick himself to things, or stick other things together. he can also produce a substance to remove the adhesion. Joey has an extremely strong and stretchy body, this allows him to reach longer distances or use his arms to pull himself along the ground for locomotion. he's also become quite good at firing jets of water or bubbles out of his mouth. he tends to use this as a faster mode of transportation as he can propel himself through the water with it, though often needs to rest up a bit afterwards. he also uses these jets of water or bubbles to blast away predators when they prove to be too persistent and Joey grows annoyed with having to stay hiding in his shell from them. speaking of which, his shell is extraordinarily tough and difficult to breach. he does however tend to grow annoyed if predators continuously attack it, in which case he opens it up very slightly and fights back with water, bubbles, or even pearls if he has any stored away. he'll even puff up a bit to fire them out of his vents at tremendous force. he has also been trying to learn different tricks to move around with his shell such as spinning in the water or flipping himself around, though has yet to perfect them.

a couple more things to note are that he breathes through the two valves on his head and he often sleeps with the blue star pearl on the top of that pile as it was from his mother. he still has yet to learn how to put shapes into his own pearls. he also produces pearls of various colors by using corals and other materials.

anyway, that's Joey the Giant Clam. I've already got some drawings for this guy planned so I'll be making those too at some point XD
