Jerom on the other hand seems a 'cool in a crisis' bloke.... calm, clear thinking, firm actions, a seeming air of indifference in the face of trouble... but it looks as if these qualities are diminished in the eyes of his superiors in light of his other attitudes and actions...

She doesn't have any practical hand-to-hand training, while he's an old infantry troop, so simply yanking the gun out her hands isn't that hard.

infantry to pilot? that's interesting. He must have had quite a career so far...

In a couple pages I'll mention that he became a reserve pilot only after getting shot too many times over too many years as a ground troop, making him unfit for infantry in the field.

I guess I watched too many Jackie Chan movies in the 1990s, but I always like scenes where a person faces an attacker with a gun or weapon and acts quickly to take the weapon away from the attacker. I recall seeing a scenario taken by a security camera during the days when "Going Postal" made the news, with a security guard sitting at his desk, and a fellow in a business suit reaches into his jacket and pulls out a small revolver and points it inches from the guard's face. In one swift motion the guard cups both hands over the weapon, pulls it out of the man's hands and places the gun in the desk below. But what really got me about the video was the former attacker jumped as if he was hit with a strong electric shock.
