well it was only a test, that was 15mins of actual fur work. but i know what u mean.
i tried somethi8ng similar to your tutorial ages agobut i never got it to work for me, the last fur i did was on http://something-wild.deviantart.co.....venge-96339310 its not perfect but it will do :)
