A dark plot unfolded!


Chaos grunted, holding a fishing rod in his paws awkwardly, casting it into the water he let out a sigh. "hey Sarah, I have another question for you. Do you think that Max will ever forgive me? I understand that what I did now was wrong but I don't know if he or his brother could ever forgive me..."

Sarah kept her eyes set on the line she cast into the ocean. Today she decided to show Chaos a cliffside that was PERFECT for casual fishing and figured it might help him loosen up. "Max is his name huh? The friend that you care about so much? I'm sure if you repent for your past mistakes he'll bound to forgive you. Afterall you didn't MEAN to hurt him right?"

"Of course not! I...I just wanted to be together with him again. I'm not whole without him and my heart aches being away from him for as long as I have." Chaos moved his free paw to his heart and closed his eyes.

with a smile, the girl leaned forward to kiss Chaos on the cheek, surprising the dark Dino and causing a bit of red to show along his cheeks. "You're much more sensitive than you give yourself credit for. Show him that part of you instead of your aggressive side and I'm sure you'll get through to him."

Chaos couldn't help but smile at the girls kind words, before turning to the rod in his right paw to see that it was moving a bit, immediately he placed his remaining paw on the rod and began to tug, growling with the effort. "Urk I think we caught a big one Sarah!"

It didn't take much longer, after a bit of a heated struggle, Chaos managed to pull from the water a golden, splashing around on his line, and Sarah couldn't help but laugh at his catch. "That's your big catch Chaos? He's a mighty big fish!"

With a blush, Chaos started sniffing at the fish to see if it was worth eating but all he got from it was a good poke on his nose from the horn and a slap of the fin. In a rage he threw the little Golden back into the waters with a growl. "Such a disagreeable snack!"

"The mighty dinosaur defeated by a Goldeen? Say it aint so!" Sarah giggled, watching Chaos fume infront of her. "Guess that just shows you size isn't everything huh?"

Chaos started rubbing over his nose with a paw, the Blackguilmon blushing brightly. "I guess that's a good point...I put my nose where I shouldn't have. Still for a little guy it packed quite a sting! Owch."

With a smile, Sarah placed her hand on Chaos's nose and began rubbing it in a soothing fashion. "Just comes to show you shouldn't underestimate those that are smaller than you. Humans can be just like that too! We may look frail and weak compared to digimon or pokemon, but we have something both really need! And something that both your species want out of us."

"Hmmm humor me! What is it that you guys have that we need?" Chaos asked with a tilt of his head, then closed his eyes. "Wait don't tell me...I think I already know...Could it be THIS?" Chaos suddenly began to glow, his body forming straighter as he took on more of a human shape. In a way, once the light began to fade he looked a lot like Max but with yellow eyes and black hair.

Sarah stared at Chaos's newly huminized form and burst into full laughter. "No it's not quite that...It's companionship. Every pokemon and human wants to have a partner that they can trust. It's the same with humans, we all seek that one specific person that we want to share the rest of our lives with..." With a lift of her hand, she ran her hand along Chaos's black hair. "Funny...you look like a kid that came to the city a few days ago. Did you dye your hair back then and it just washed out?"

Chaos smiled as she moved a little closer, as he listened to her it began to dawn on him that THAT was indeed what he wanted. He wanted to be with Max again to be in his company, but at the same time now he actually didn't want to leave Sarah. "O-oh that's Max...like I told you before he completes me. I'm...just a shadow cast out of his conciousness. A piece of him he'd rather not have around."

Sarah leaned in all the closer, before wrapping her arms around him. "You're not just a shadow. You're here, and I'm holding you right now. So you're not just a piece of someone else! You're you."

His heart started beating a bit faster, could he actually be having such affections for such a human, and if so he wondered if Max would like her because of their union. "Thank you Sarah. I'm glad SOMEBODY see's me for who I am."

With a small push, Chaos got on his feet and opened a portal infront of the two of them. He gave Sarah a smile as he shook her hand. "Sarah! I'll be right back okay? There's something I have to do. I have to protect Max and I know just how to do that because of you. When I come back...Let's move in together, I'll help you become the best coordinator you can be and you can teach me about human emotions!"

this time it was HER turn to blush, she never expected Chaos to propose such a thing but she liked the dinosaur anyway, even as he turned back into a guilmon right infront of her eyes. "Just be careful okay? I don't want you hurting yourself."

Chaos shook his head, smiling softly. "I'll be back, don't worry!" He waved to her before jumping into the portal.


Meanwhile, Max and the others finally made it back to the mainlands, before they left, Rex had given both him, and Fang something special, for MAX he had bestowed a fire stone to him should he one day choose to evolve Eevee into a Flareon, and for Fang, well the evidence was in his paws as he was holding onto a brand new pokedex in one paw and a pokeball in the other.

"I still can't believe that I was licensed last night...Just because I did one battle for you I'm suddenly a trainer? He even gave me a Charmander to start with!" Fang wagged his tails a bit, obviously excited by the realization that he was now a trainer same as his brother.

Max grinned, poking his brother's shoulder as they walked through the dirt path, tossing the fire stone in his hands a bit. "Well you DID help out big time. And for you to fill in for me next time especially if it's in the league you had to become a licensed trainer. Have you even tried bonding with your Charmander yet though? You've kept it in the ball this whole time and haven't even tried talking to it yet."

with a blink, Fang dropped the ball onto the ground, releasing a rather miniscule looking Charmander out of it's ball, it stared up at Fang with a big goofy grin on it's face and leapt up at him with a "Char!"

Fang laughed as the Charmander leapt into his arms, patting it on the head he flattened his own ears. "It's nice to meetcha bud! I think I'll name you Charmy because well...you're so small and adorable!"

Kevin grinned as he leaned forward to inspect the Charmander. "Charmy eh? I'm sure he'll be quite the good luck charm. but this late in the game you'd be hard pressed to enter the pokemon league...so what will you both do?"

Charmy glanced at Kevin and gave him a sparkling of eyes before licking Fang, then he began chanting out his name to the group, though this only got a laugh out of Max, and the rest of the pokemon that were currently out. "What did he say?" Fang was curious, tilting his head to the side.

"Oh! He said that he's fine doing whatever it is you're planning to do. Because he just really likes ya." Max translated, then looked at Charmeleon who nodded in approval. "Rex said that this guy was your little brother RIGHT?"

"Of course! It's why papa and Rex chose him to be Fang's partner probably.Charmy should be very good company!" Charmeleon bounced over to the little Charmander who leapt onto his head excitedly, they really did look like two siblings that got along. "Oh! Piggyback is it?" Charmeleon laughed and started marching with his brother hanging on his head.

Max snickered, translating Charmeleon's responses to his question, while quickly spotting the more closer buildings of Mahogany town in the distance, It was about time they were nearing their seventh destination. THIS one was a gym that both HE and Flare have yet to challenge so they could finally finish their qualifications together. "Well I think it's a good thing, I always felt bad that Fang was being left out of the loop when it came to these battles. Now he can be there with the rest of us."

"Don't count on it..." Kevin stated flatly, crossing his arms. "Just because Fang became a trainer and has a Charmander doesn't mean he's going to be a worthy trainer for the league. Not EVERYBODY makes it you know, just getting through the qualifier is going to be tricky for the three of us."

Flare scratched his head not exactly understanding that bit. "Wait I thought the gym challenge WAS the qualifier! You mean there's more?"

This time Max was the one to respond, he gave Ivysaur a rub on his snout, almost having forgotten the grass type was on his head. "This year theres going to be a qualifying portion of the competition since more and more trainers compete every season. Only the top 48 trainers will actually make the cut to the real League. In Johto it's not just called the Johto league, it's known as the Silver conference. and the number of competitiors can range in a little over 200."

"That's insane! That's way more work than I thought would be necessary just to get into the championship!" Flare exclaimed with a shock, Charmeleon just sighed, shaking his head at his trainers lack of knowledge.

"Well what did you expect? So many trainers in the course of a year take this challenge in the hopes to make it into the pokemon league, Especially since the winner of the Silver conference gets to battle one on one with the Johto league champion! Lance himself." Max repeated excitedly. "Believe me where I came from we don't have televisions but I've read enough books and Magazines to know than Lance is the best of the best."

Max's explaination was cut short however when a portal appeared infront of the group of trainers, Chaos rolling out of the black matter and causing a panic in the group as they all got into battle ready positions, Max especially looked on edge until Chaos held his paws up in the air. "Hold up! Don't attack, I came to make ammends..."

RD raised an eyeridge, not looking convinced as the portal closed. "You ATTACKED Charmeleon and Max last time...how do we know you won't do it again?"

Chaos groaned, turning into his human form, resembling Max once more as he held out a map. "Look I've turned into a human okay? I can't possibly be of any threat in this form, I'm only here to warn you that you're on a collision course right towards their base! It's in Mahogany town, simply put, it's in team rocket's old hideout."

RainbowDragon didn't seem all that convinced, if anything he looked confused. "Why are you giving us this info? Is this a trap?!"

Chaos put his hand to his face in a facepalm and stared right at the dragon. "Look take it however you want! Their leader Delta thinks he's being slick but I know what he's planning. His plot was to get Max and I to become one again, and the reason is so that the Darkness can take a hold on you." He pointed a finger at Max, taking a deep breath. "HE wants to create a royal knight that can be influenced by the Darkness."

Max was caught off gaurd by that last remark, he didn't know how to take it, a moment later he stepped over to Chaos. "And you were just gonna go ALONG with that plan? what IS a royal knight anyway?"

Sighing, Chaos put the map in Max's hand, even marked where the base would be located. "I went along with the plan because I am darkness incarnate, I was born from your negativaty and know that I could control it better than anyone else. I figured we would become this Royal knight and retain control of ourselves, but after thinking it over I realize it'd be foolish to overestimate my control." Chaos took a deep breath and continued. "As for a royal knight...it's the highest class of digimon there is. Just ONE Royal knight could decimate this entire world."

The whole group cringed when they heard that, it almost sounded too unreal but when Max thought about his Leomon transformation it DID make sense, Leo said that with every evolution he would mature and he didn't want to think about what would happen IF that royal knight prophecy came to be. "I'm glad you came to your senses then...So then what is it you're trying to do now Chaos? If your goal was to destroy the world I'm sure you'd still go along with this plan."

With a shake of his head, Chaos turned back into a Blackguilmon and held his paws to his heart. "I used to want humanity to suffer, simply because they mistreated us but I found new hope in your race and I want to live to see how the future turns out. My heart burns from me saying this...but I can't go back into you..." He started crying a bit, closing his eyes. "I've wanted to rejoin with you all this time and every moment I'm away from you tears at me but sacrifices have to be made to preserve the future..." He sniffled, wiping away his tears.

Max gave Chaos a surprised look, he never thought he'd see his darker half cry but there it was. Max instantly put a hand on Chaos's shoulder and hugged him tight. "Come with us...If you really understand the error of our ways then come with us to the base, help us finish this once and for all!"

"Hold it! He's caused us so many problems Max!" Flare and Kevin both exclaimed, Kevin going on further. "He's pure Darkness, how can you trust him?!"

Fang looked at both of them and growled, walking over to Chaos and whacking him on the back of the head. "If Max is this quick to forgive you then I'll do the same. You're a part of Max so that makes you my brother as well, but I still hope you don't plan to eat me again!"

Chaos's eyes went wide, before more tears flowed down his cheeks and he hugged Fang and Max in a group huddle. "I'm so sorry for doing that to you...Let me make it up to you..." Chaos began glowing for a moment, before the glow transferred to Fang, instantaniously all of the patches of fur missing on his body began repairing themselves, making him a whole wolf again fur and all.

"Woah! I'm fully furred again!" Fang barked happily, quickly discarding the old clothing Max had since the beginning of their travels and placing them in a bag. "How'd you do that?"

Chaos scratched the back of his head with a claw and blushes. "When a digimon eats something it converts whatever it's digesting into raw data...I just told my body to return the bits of data I stripped from your body and made it physical again."

Fang furrowed his brow, not exactly understanding the concept but Max seemed to understand simply enough, maybe it was something only a digimon understood? Either way he nuzzled Chaos and Max, before smiling. "Comeon let's show those guys that we mean buisiness so that you two can get reacquainted!"

Flare and Kevin exchanged glances, before shrugging their shoulders, Flare especially seemed surprised that Charmeleon had joined in the hug having apparently forgiven Chaos quickly enough as well.

"Well now that's all well and good but as long as we're hugging we won't get anywhere." RD pointed out with a laugh, leading the way for the group as he flew about two meters above the rest of them, pointing towards the ever growing buildings as they neared their destination.
