Desire is one of those funny things. Without restraint it can go wild, rampant. On it's own it's a beast, insatiable and hungry for whatever it wants and nothing to stop it.
Imagine having all that feeling of your wants and desires, your dreams, raw and powerful and unrestrained. All of that, standing right in front of you. Would you suddenly second guess every time you wanted your life to end even in passing. Running down a list of things in your mind where invasive thoughts paraded as desire in wanting to hurt yourself. Suddenly questioning, do you like yourself enough that your own desire won't tear you apart when given half the chance.
Or is the hate enough to devour you. Maybe, just maybe staring down the barrel of a metaphorical gun you realize it's the wiser option to love yourself, even the monstrous parts even the crazy parts. Because in the crazy wild eyes of your desire there is beauty in the madness. There is passion in the fire. There is love in the danger.
Do not fear that which you are at your innermost core. Its honesty is refreshing, look at it, learn from it, change what you can and embrace that which makes you you.
It's you. Uncensored unfiltered and honest.

I would also add that Dires are what you are and feel at your innermost level, without the many layers of reason, morale, religion, culture, self-control, or social constructs. Which is, basically, desires, but also some facets of psyche. What you are, but also possibly what you try to deny. At least, that's what I understood from all the things that have been written. Foxena really developed an interesting concept with dires, and I'd say that outside character they would be an interesting psychological tool to really understand yourself as a person, since to make a Dire you have to dig into yourself more than what you'd like.
I might suggest you come to one of the weekend streams sometime. You seem to have a fair few questions about the universe that we can happily provide answers to. The weekends are when I dual-stream with Gen, my co-writer. Between us we can answer any questions you might have.
