This took me like, 5-7 hours, I lost count. I have absolutely no concept of color, and I doctor my lines way too much. There's this thing called diminishing return...
This started fun but turned into a chore. It saved itself by continually reminding me how ADORABLE yinglets are. But seriously, how the hell do those bird feet things work? I love avians to death but drawing those feet gave me a terrible time!
With all that said,
valsalia's little yinglets are delightfully quirky and endearing, and I wanted to take one to bed with me draw one. Maybe next time I won't struggle with the initial picture as much and I can maybe add a little dimension and characterization to the figure...
Of course, after reading about these creatures, anything less than amazing characterization seems sub-par! But it's worth a shot; I could use to try more of that anyway.

Oh god lookit this little guy! I love the way you've posed him, and that facial expression! You really captured the yinglety personality there, especially in the eyes.
I love seeing other artists interpreting these little things in their own style, if only because I tend to focus on getting lots of panels done, as opposed to focusing on one figure and refining it a lot. And on that note, I totally feel ya about the line-doctoring urge; it's something I need to scale back on so I can get pages finished faster!
And yeah, it took me a while to get the feet down, too; the design was originally based on the foot-style of plovers and other beach-combing birds, but eventually settled on a more land-oriented type, which I tend to look to the Secretary Bird for references.
All in all, I'm lovin' it. If you ever draw any more, by all means let me know; I don't want to miss any!

I was poring over your sketches trying to see how you developed those feet! Knowing a species to look up now will probably help, too.
It's good to know someone else can relate to time and drawing like that. Moving quickly and smoothly is something I really admire about a lot of artists! Illustration is often more about depicting something effectively, rather than correctly. It's something I want to improve upon. Hopefully we can both move at our desired paces; I know I can't wait to see what happens next in the story! ;>
Although I was certainly in the mood to complain when I put the picture up, I don't regret a bit of it, and I'm exceptionally happy to receive compliments from the creator of these speedy little creatures. I hope I can find the time to work on more of them sometime soon! I'll keep you posted~
