Comish - High Flyers

Epic Scene commission done for
Mallikeet featuring his character, Corril, flying alongside myself as Muzafr in none other than an F/A-18 Blue Angel! B)
Muzafr is taking a peaceful evening to soar around and practice her moves, but above the clouds she spies a dragon with a chart, apparently attempting to show her some location he's plotted out. Though her training has prepared her for anything, Muzafr can't quite figure out how this strange dragon is keeping up with her fighter jet!
Whew, this piece was intense but fun to work on! I was originally planning on a vertical frame, actually, but I ended up juggling them around to make for a landscape composition where I could see both the jet and Corril. I tried overlapping them, but that just looked cluttered, oddly enough.
How is Corril keeping up with Blue Angel Muzafr? His wings are built similarly to a jet engine, where the front of his wings are able to take in air, and his primaries are able to compress it and expel it like jet exhaust! Ask Malli for more details on this unique physiology. ^^
Blue Angel referenced from one of my dozens of pictures I've taken of them! I see these guys in person every day, I'm physically incapable of drawing them or any other Navy aircraft other than great, haha. Y'all should check out the T6 Texan class patch I designed. BD
Thanks, Malli! Hope you like it!

He works as a cargo-tug (meaning he essentially works as the engines for a monstrous thing called a cargo-glider, which is effectively an A380 with lighter materials, much larger wings, and its engines removed retrofitted for hauling cargo. Hooray for rising oil prices!), so he's capable of a lot more than we see here... Fortunately, he's relatively experienced so he knows to slow down at lower altitudes. Some of the noobier ones of his species aren't as powerful, but they have a habit of flying their cargo-glider way too fast on descent and ascent merely because they think it's a thrill... And then they wonder why they get grounded for weeks afterward!
It turned out awesome! I absolutely love that layering to the sky background, with the simpler clouds to the bottom giving way to the more shaped clouds to the top. You really captured that feeling of high flight amidst an awe inspiring sky! Makes me want to fly in a sky like that. I also really like the very subtle bloom you did for the rear-lighting.
You did great!
