Here we are, chapter 6 of Mystery of the Nexians. And yeah I know it's been a month since the last one, but had trouble trying to discribe a nebula. Lol.

Dust and gas swirled around in the vastness of space. Illuminated by light from distance stars, and proto-stars with in, the nebula continued the cycle of rebirth, after the supernova of the star it once was. Clumps of stellar matter already on their way of becoming planets or asteroids, spun around the young stars, gravity pulling as new systems began the long journey to form. Ships rarely travelled into these large clumps of stellar matter, as the sensors get screwed up. But some still make the journey.
A large ship glided through the gasses of the nebula, its shields doing their best to deflect any formed rocks. It’s main hull long and wide, as the light reflected off it. Five ‘slabs’ adorned it, on the top and bottom, starting about half way, each slab smaller than the one it was stacked on. The end of the ship flared out, looking like a set of outward pointed wings, or a crescent moon. Mini towers and spires doted its hull. Black paint was its main colour, with purple and red mixed in, but its paint job was dull. The ship covered in scrapes and hull breaches on its decks. Yet, it continued its never ending journey. Broadcasting out a single simple message.
A message of wanting to end its loneliness.
Freya continued on her journey back towards earth, after a few years in space, it would be good to go back to Earth. I smiled as I rolled over, my arms wrapping around Gem’s sleeping form next to me. My smile grew wider as I looked at the sleeping beauty next to me. I leaned forward as I gently kissed her forehead. With a smile still on my face, I let go of her as I rolled out of bed
I yawned and stretched as I walked out of Gem’s room. I had underwear on, so I didn’t have to worry about anything as I stepped into the hallway. A small chill made me shiver as I thought, ‘Besides that.’ “Freya can you turn the heat up a bit?” I asked as I started to head for the mess hall. “Not a problem” Freya’s voice replied as the chill was replaced with a nice warmth. “Thanks” I said with a nod of my head.
I walked to the fridge like appliance that was at the back, it store food at a low temperature so to me it was a fridge. Actually, I am surprised that Freya could power the electrical things we had picked up other the years. When I asked her, she just said that Bioships are known to give off something similar to electricity. I shook my head, as I opened the ‘fridge’ open. There was some food in there, granted not from earth, but it was similar to food from there. I pulled out, what I would call a blue pear, it had a sweet taste.
I pulled out a jug of water, as well as a breakfast food pack. These food packs have gotten a bit easier to eat, but I rather have actual food. This one tasted similar to bacon and eggs, as I started to eat it, after activating the micro cooker device inside it. Christie explained that it cook the food quickly and then died. As I waited for a minute I pulled the cover off and started to eat.
As I was finishing I looked up to see Christie walk in, her overalls slightly dirty as she walked to the pantry. “Rough day?” I asked. “Yeah, Drakenfoxes still are taking my stuff. But there is something else” she said.
“Something else?”
“Yeah, I made a run in with I think a new species, or unknown at least. They looked like foxes but, see through, almost like a ghost. But, they give off a strong energy reading, and then there are the sparks that come off. No idea where they came from, but they seem to be appearing now.”
I nod as she pulled out a food pack for herself. “Interesting, any theories yet?” I asked. “Just they are some type of energy being that look like foxes. Not much, but better than nothing” Christie said, before starting to eat from her food pack. “Lunch?” I asked. “Yep, quick lunch then back to the workshop. You?” “Breakfast. Was going to check on the others, mainly our new member, Sam” I said as Christie nodded a bit. “Well, drop by any time, I will more than likely trying to study these new energy beings” she explained. “Well, have fun” I said as I turned and walked out, dumping the used food pack in the bin.
Exiting the mess hall, I turned and walked further down towards the hanger. It wasn’t that far, as I stopped in front of the door. Opening it slightly I walked inside, trying to not disturb anyone. In the corner, bathed in the light coming from the nearby nebula, I saw the metallic form of Alruna.
I walked closer, trying to not startle her, just in case the Birdplane was in shut down, or standby mode. Turns out, she wasn’t as she turned to face me. “Morning Jack” the Birdplane said, with a careful nod. “Hey Alruna, is Sam settling in ok?” I asked. Alrune just nodded again, “She is, currently sleeping in the cockpit.” I smiled a bit at this, “How she handling you?” “Well, she seems thrilled at having an AI as a partner in the vehicle. And I like her company” the Birdplane said with a nod. My smiled turned to a grin as I nodded back, “Nice. Tell her we are still trying to figure out how to get the parts to make you fly.” “Thanks. Tell Christie to stop by any time” Alruna said as I nodded and left the hanger.
About 45 minutes passed since I had my meeting with Alruna, during that time decided to have a shower. Now I stood in my room, in a fresh shirt and pants, a little change from my usual vest and jeans. Looking around the room, I smiled as I saw the bag that I had brought. ‘Man haven’t looked in it in years’ I thought as I picked it up and opened it.
Inside was an old book on UFO sightings as well as a few note books, filled with my notes of UFO sightings I have been too. ‘Man, if only past me could see now’ I thought with a chuckle. My hands brushed against a container as I picked it up, looking at it. I smiled as I lifted off the lid, and there laid the object, that I am still sure was alien. Despite being locked up in a container for a few years, no damage seemed to be on it. “Still no idea what the heck it is” I said with a chuckle.
Lifting it out, I examined it, still small and able to fit in my palm. A sphere connecting to a prism via a small tube with blue writing on it made of metal of some kind. Placing it back in the container I stood up as I walked out of my room, maybe can find a place to put it. “I got a free room just down the hall way, if you want to place it there” Freya said, as her serpent form appeared near me. I nodded and gave a “Thanks.”
Walking down the hallway, I ended up at the room Freya had mentioned. The door slid open as I walked into the room. I surveyed it, seeing there were shelves, and could be turned into a mini museum. “Hey Freya?” I called out, waiting for her response. “Think this room can have multiple objects and artefacts?” I asked as I saw the serpent appear. “I don’t see why not, you’re the captain” she said with a nod. I chuckle a bit as I nodded, “Yeah. Still not that great at it” I said as I walked over, placing the object on the shelf. “Just make sure what we bring here is safe” I said as I turned and left the room. “Just try to make sure no one steals it” I said as I walked towards the bridge.
“The nebula looks pretty cool, wonder which it is?” Gem asked as she sat in her seat. The bridge was at the moment just a large room, not too different. At least two rows in front for computer screens and one behind. Each row had two to them, my chair being in the middle facing the screen. Behind me were two more, but who knows if the bridge would change when Freya grows next. Gem sat in a chair in front of me as we looked at the nebula. “I think it’s the Eagle Nebula. Quite a sight, I must say” I said smiling a bit.
The Eagle Nebula I knew a bit about, like the Pillars of Creation were found in here, along with a few others. That and I think it’s the largest nebula that have been discovered, wasn’t too sure on that part though. “It is beautiful” Gem said as she nodded a smile on her face as she looked at it. “Hey Jack, I am picking up an unknown signal” Freya said as we moved into the nebula. “You sure it’s not just the nebula?” I asked. “No, listen” she said.
Silence was all that was heard, until a blast of noise followed by something. It was someone talking in an unknown language, as we listened to it. “Christie?” I asked looking over at the vixen taur, wondering if she had heard it before. “Nope, never heard it before” she said, listening to it. We listened for a bit more as it seemed to repeat. “It sounds like it’s a message. A distress call?” Sam asked via intercom, as I nodded. “Could be possible, Freya, scan what you can, see if there is another ship here” I said, as both bioship and Christie started to do sensor sweeps of the area.
Minutes passed as we waited, already knowing the dust and gasses would mess with the sensors of any ship, even a bioship. I looked at the screen, scanning the nebula with what I could see, guessing that I might pick it up with my eyes. All I could see was the colourful nebula, along with some distance stellar matter, in the process of becoming a new star or planet.
“Got something. A ship of some kind, I don’t recognise the design” Christie said as I stood up. “Right, display it at the holo table” I said as me and Gem walked to a part of the bridge that lied off to the left, sort of a connected room without a door or wall to separate it from the bridge. Christie nodded as she came to join us.
The table was a high tech table, sort of like what was shown on TV shows of sci-fi. With a nod from me Christie pushed a few buttons as the lights dimmed. The light of the hologram sprung to fill the darkness as we stared at the ship. It was unknown design, at least something I never seen. “I never seen a ship of this design” Christie said as she walked around the table, examining what she could of the ship. “Any signs of line?” I asked looking at the two. “Nothing, just an empty ship, broadcasting that message” Freya said.
Gem looked up from a console on the wall towards us. “Well, it seems like the ship knows we are here. It’s changing course” she said. “Changing course, how?” I asked looking from Freya to Christie. “It could be possible that it has an autopilot or something… But the ship is quite large” Christie suggested, a hand holding her chin in the thinkers pose. “Does it have any weapons or shields?” I asked, looking at the two. Freya nodded, “Yes. But they seemed to be powered down.” “Rather it’s from damages to it, or intentional, they do seem down” Christie added in as we looked at the ship. I nodded as I turned and walked back to the bridge, “Set a course then. We may as well, see what is going on with this ship.”
Must of taken us possible, fifteen minutes, but we started to approach the ship. “Sending out hails, just in case” Gem told us, as we got closer. “Anything?” I asked, only receiving a shake of the head. “Continue then” I said as I looked at Christie. “Weapons and shields are still down. Not getting any life signs still” she said looking back at me. “Picking up what looks like a hanger. Strange I could have sworn it was closed” Freya said as the ship filled up the view screen. “Proceed with caution” I said as we moved closer.
A beam of light shot out from somewhere of the ship as it swept over Freya’s ship body. “Is it attacking?!” I turned around to look at Christie and Freya. “No, it seems to be scanning us” Freya replied. “Ok, I don’t like this. There is no life on there?” Gem asked looking at Freya and Christie. The two shook their heads. “And yet it’s scanning us?” “Could be an automated thing?” I suggested. “Could be, but I don’t like this” Gem said as she stood up, starting at the ship. I nod as I turned to Freya, “Get ready to get us out of here in case something happens.” The serpent nods as the light snapped off and we moved towards the hanger.
Freya touched down lightly as we looked onwards, the hanger looked like a ship hanger, yet it was alien in design. “Got and atmosphere?” I asked. “Yeah, seems to match that in Freya?” Christie said, puzzled as she looked at us. “Is that different?” I asked. “No, as in it’s exactly like what it is in here at the moment” Christie said. I looked at Gem and she looked back as we stood up. “We might as well go investigate then. Just don’t wonder too far in case we have to get out of here” I suggested as Gem went to fetch her guns. Better safe the sorry, I guess.
Gem, Christie, Freya and I stepped down the landing ramp as we looked around carefully. The looks of two abandoned shuttles or small craft lied on their sides against the walls. Junk and alien writing littered the hanger as Gem drew her stunner. We crept further as Christie did scanner sweeps, with a portable scanner she bought. “Serra, Necetra, keep on standby just in case something happen” I whispered into an intercom. “Ok, but if there is nothing dangerous we are going looking ourselves” Serra’s voice replied as I nod. “Ok” I said before looking around again.
Nothing moved, no signed as we crossed the hanger. Pieces of paper littered as well as bits of equipment. “Not even drakenfoxes?” Gem wondered as she looked at Christie. “Nope, not that I can tell at least” the vixen taur replied looking at the scanner again.
“Odd, aren’t they normally on ships?”
“Yeah, but not here. That and not most ships. They only appear there are times where there is a drop in their numbers. We seem to be going through one now” Christie explained. I nod as we got to the other end of the hanger, a door opening automatically for us. The four of us looked at each puzzled but we walked out into a hall way.
The hall way went in both directions as far as we could see, with doors and other corridors branching off towards other parts of the ship. I pulled out a marker as I scribbled something near the door. “Jack?” “This is just to remember where are if we get lost” I said, showing a small symbol. “Hopefully whoever is here doesn’t get angry” I said with a sigh as I turned and looked. “You mean if anyone is here” the coyote pointed out as I nodded in reply.
We pushed on as we explored deeper, going down the hallway and heading through a corridor. The ship looked empty, abandoned, as if it’s been like this for a while. I poked my head into a room with the door jarred open. Inside was metal boxes and what looked like a bed. “I think this could be some sort of quarters” I said to the others. Dust covered everything in an inch as nothing in here seem to not be touched in ages.
Pulling my head out we continued to walk further in, several sections closed off. “Hull breaches from what I could tell. Enter them and you get blow out into space” Christie explained as we continued. Out footsteps, echoing up and down the corridor as we made some twists and turns. It was kind of a maze as we searched.
Christie stopped as the sensor beeped. “Christie?” I asked looking at the vixen taur. “Life signs, ahead!” she warned us. Gem took this as a time to level her stunner ready for whatever was coming. “Can you tell us what we could be dealing with?” I whispered to the vixen. She shook her head as she looked at the scanner. “With this, I can just give a basic reading. Seems to be four of them at least, their bio signs match species found in this galaxy. I think” she said, whacking the scanner a bit. “If we survive this, remind me to find you some working parts” I said to her as we ducked into a room.
“You said you think they are from here” Gem said, as Christie nodded. “Yeah, but I can’t give you a straight answer” she replied as we waited. Silence passing through the ship again, as stood in the room. I glanced at Freya as she nodded, knowing she could try to get us out of here quickly. I nodded back as I looked at Gem.
Footsteps were heard, as whatever it was got closer. I saw Gem’s hand tighten around the handle of the stunner as she moved her finger to the trigger. “Not yet, wait until we know they are hostile” I whispered, getting a nod in return. The footsteps drew closer as we tensed a bit, before voices were heard.
“Remind me why we had to come here?”
“Cause we were tasked with finding out what this ship is”
“I understand that, but why did we have to bring someone who doesn’t hold a weapon?”
“Cause Mau was interested in taking this task”
The voices drew closer as Christie stood up. She motioned for us to stay as she whispered, “I may know who it is. Just wait.”
Gem nodded as she kept close to the door as Christie stepped out. “I see something!” A voice shouted in alarm, a female voice by the sounds of it. “Whoa! It’s just me, Christie, lower you hammer” I heard Christie exclaim back. “Christie, what are you doing here?” the voice asked. “I could ask the same for you Sif” Christie said as both I and Gem crept out.
There in front of Christie was a group of four, one having the symbol of the Pirate Armada.
