For years, I've wanted to recreate this piece:
http://www.deviantart.com/art/Unfin.....-Fox-153840254
This is my little mini Hershey bar sized fox. She currently has no name and I don't know that I will give her a name.
While I am extremely proud of this piece that I have added to my portfolio, I am equally frustrated with it. I pushed the limits of what I could do with this piece by really incorporating what I learned in the past year of working in Lighting into a 2D piece. I hope you guys can see the leap in my art, too. Will be doing a dawn/day time version of it in the future. :)
I think I spent about 7 hours on this piece, but 2-3 extra hours just frickin' problem solving my way out of some stupid white lines that were appearing everywhere. I couldn't believe it. I was literally done the piece, and then zoomed out and there were all these little white lines EVERYWHERE. It's like what we call "matte lines" in 3D Lighting/Compositing where the edges of overlapping layers leave gaps or unwanted lines on your work. It is a dreadful mess to fix.
I think because I was trying out a new method of colouring to try to make the character pop more, something went terribly wrong in the process and I had to repaint over a bunch of things to "fix" the issues. Painting over stuff is my last resort and is usually the simplest solution, but sometimes it made it worse, and I still cannot figure out what the culprit is. Next piece I work on I will definitely have to be much more conscientious about what I'm doing to try to prevent this from happening. Never in the past 13 years of me drawing/colouring have I ever encountered this issue. GRARGH.
Anyways, enjoy.
