Spirits in this world are essentially the gods of the world. Each Spirit, has the unfortunate side effect that they begin to get set in certain personality traits which could be considered aggravating. This includes talking in riddles (in an ambiguous manner), being pretentious, and demanding. Asteroth is known as the leader of the Nine, which an assembly of demon spirits. Later it became known that Asteroth is actually the ‘father’ of the Nine rather than one of them. He has been in a lifetime battle with Om, the leader of the spirits of the entire world. This rivalry spawns from his shattered memories of Om ripping his wings from him. After this his memory has been broken and he cannot remember his past. He has spent his entire life attempting to outsmart Om’s plans only to be out planned at every turn.
Asteroth is a Spirit (god) that my character Rebalyn has recently attached herself to. She met him about two years ago (in her game time) as a mysterious spirit who seemed to be investigating a gate she had found made of an ancient dragons skeleton underneath where her home town used to be before a dragon nuked it. Many associate him with being the spirit of contracts and the creator of the tiefling race. Of course, the reputation of him cheating individuals through manipulating words within the contracts has followed him. Rebalyn had found that he liked having the most recent information and was able to earn some favors from him. Over time with all the information of the outside world she had provided to him he decided to help her with no strings attached with the knowledge of how to control her developing spiritual abilities.
Rebalyn spent more time with him and eventually decided to break him of the traits that spirits have been genetically pigeon holed into as she had hated what the Spirits had come to represent. So she began to slowly show Asteroth what it meant to be mortal. This included introducing him to food and drink, different emotions, and friendship. They grew closer over time and recently, she has finally admitted she ‘likes’ him. Which she initially denied since everyone had said he was ‘bad’ for her. She has been working to help him try to restore his memory. This is beginning to show he was a different kind of spirit in the past than he is now. More wild… Untamed.
I am yet to find out more about him and his past but this is a general description of Asteroth up to this point in the Dungeons and Dragons/Pathfinder game I am in with my mate. I had actually planned to draw a reference of Asteroth before Lapres did the Phantom of the Opera picture of Rebalyn and Asteroth about 2 years ago. I had come to realize it was because I wasn’t comfortable doing muscled characters. I had sketched him out at least 4 times and then scrapped them. And yes, his body structure is based off of Goliath from Gargoyles as that is how my mate mentioned his body structure (with the very broad shoulders) looked.
