NOT DRAWN BY ME -- I've seen commissions and gift art before on DA & FA in recipients' accounts, so am privileged to include this one in mine.
Verbose, I know, as Shakespeare had Hamlet say: "Words, words, words.” Besides, I'm tired of my terse screeds accompanying the OH! PawPets! Screencapture Challenge postings.
On May 1st 2014, Brentos (the Freshmaker) -- notorious artiste & forumite of the Ninechime DTP Java-based drawing oekaki BBS (Yes, BBSes are still around, just evolved to work on the WWW) -- submitted the 202nd installment of his long-running webcomic "Lust" a loose parody of the TV series "Lost." I really should watch it on DVD, as I can only surmise what's going on and to happen.
In his accompanying thread, he ran a contest challenging his readers to figure-out the inspirations for the weirdness with which he'd imbued his characters. Two others: Sydney (formerly Sean Wolf) and pinderhooks (That's with a small "p") a mouse who can draw amazing art using just a computer mouse, contributed funny answers, but he was grading on accuracy and mine came closest, so it won my choice of a drawing. Here's how the conversation went:
Brentos @ Thursday, May 1st 2014, 4:07 AM
Free art to anyone who can figure out how I'm coming up with these fetishes. *hint* Furries will have an advantage here...
Sydney @ Thursday, May 1st 2014, 10:31 PM
LSD?
Brentos @ Tuesday, May 6th 2014, 12:57 AM
Looks like Sydney's the closest, so far. But he's still wrong. Keep those answers rolling in gang!
pinderhooks @ Tuesday, May 6th 2014, 1:27 AM
My best guess is that you're just looking into your bedroom closet for inspiration
Sakana_Katana @ Thursday, May 8th 2014, 2:50 AM
Some wixxx or other such search tags from an art site, MUD or MUCK? (Too many to check.) Maybe Taps or WCotP?
Brentos @ Thursday, May 8th 2014, 11:47 PM
Pinder's answer is awesome because it's actually pretty funny for a mouse but Sydney's is still closer because it's something beyond my control. Like because if I was on drugs I wouldn't be responsible for my actions or something. I'm reaching here...
And along comes Sakana who gets an awesome hit but doesn't quite hit it out of the park. It looks like Sakana might win some more art. At least so far...
Brentos @ Tuesday, May 13th 2014, 12:15 AM
I'd say that's about it for this weeks fun contest. Congratulations Sakana! SPEECH! SPEECH! SPEECH!...
Also: what would you like me to draw muh' lord?
Oh yeah, almost forgot, when I need a new fetish for the strip I've been going to F Chan and then seeing what's at the top of the 'alt' thread. Believe me there's some way out shit there. Just be glad I'm not using 'alt hardcore' because practically everything in that is violent in some way. It's much more interesting just using 'alt'. And in case you're wondering, Al and Mascot's fetishes are just things I thought up at the time. Al gets off easy because of that, if you know what I mean. And yes I've got something special in store for ol' Sydney...
Sakana_Katana @ Thursday, May 22nd 2014, 5:10 AM
Speech? Ah hmmm... fellow deep thinkers...
You know, in my research to have said "...search tags from an art site..." I'd actually visited 4-Chan but stopped looking for such "aht" sites after that one didn't pan out: "Too many to check" after all. If I'd had my bookmarks from the main compy, I might've visited that other -Chan instead and hit the metaphorical ball outta' the park and into deep space toward galaxies unknown.
Good thing *I* don't have any fetishes... well, not sexual ones.
So, as a cultural date/time stamp via a nod to current events because of THIS, http://www.today.com/entertainment/.....bay-2D79337154 , please draw me riding Pee-wee Herman's Bike From "Pee-wee's Big Adventure." I've always wanted a hundred million, trillion, billion dollar ride.
Brentos @ Wednesday, May 28th 2014, 2:04 AM
Okay, that was unexpected! I'm going to have to draw this next week because I just can't think of anything Large Marge enough right now!
Much later...
Brentos @ Saturday, June 14th 2014, 1:29 AM
Sakana! This hasn't fallen off my radar! I WILL draw this but nothing awesome has come to me yet. I want this to be good! I keep thinking of it in multiple panels because most stuff I do is a comic or at least kind of a comic. Not exactly a graphic novel or anything but you know?...
Sakana_Katana @ Saturday, June 21st 2014, 7:34 PM
@ Brentos: part of the reason, besides the cultural date/time stamp, I asked for this subject is because I have in mind a multi-panel contribution to The Cross-Time Cafe which involves my bike riding. Just want to see how YOU handle it and will have to defend against charges of copy-catting later.
Well, THAT certainly goosed his creative muse, to which the following conversation accompanying his blue pencils sketch, that he's called "Oh This? This Is Just My New Bike", will attest. (It's not posted on FA but, it can be found just previously on the same page as what you see here - http://ninechime.com/deep/index.php?pageno=4 Page 5 by the site's menu. Direct link to semi-permanent large version - http://ninechime.com/deep/pictures/DTP_4795.png .
Even though this was essentially commissioned, wherein the customer should always be right, so there's a little artistic squabbling (as I saw it the same day as the finished one) but it was also free, so I couldn't complain. Ignore the technical stuff involved. He also starts his explanation of why Sam Starfall, from the webcomic "Freefall" (http://freefall.purrsia.com/) photobombed the picture:
Brentos @ Tuesday, July 1st 2014, 3:19 AM
I thought I'd upload this before I royally screw it up.
Sakana_Katana @ Wednesday, July 2nd 2014, 2:53 PM
I always like to see work in progress, especially since the animation for this got f*cked and stops halfway through.
Kindly let me know if the coloured one is done or, if I should wait for some kind of background, then I'll comment on it.
As it is with a white background, I could cut myself out of it, complete the stylistically out-of-frame tyre and tail so as to use it as an icon.
Brentos @ Wednesday, July 2nd 2014, 10:33 PM
It's done! I didn't do a background on this one for various reasons, mostly I thought the bike just stands out better in a featureless void. This upload was in case I got it part way inked and safety saved. Usually when I do that I lose all layers and if that happened this would have been a nightmare to finish. I watched the animation too and noticed a thin black line on the progress bar almost at the halfway point. Sure as shit the animation stopped just as it got to that line. But other than that I had a ton of fun on this one and really got into it once you mentioned Cross Time Cafe. I new right away this has got to have Sam Starfall in it and here it is the first time I ever drew him!
Whew! as if that isn't enough copy-pasta for you peeps, here's how it continued for the finished piece the "Hundred Million, Trillion, Billion Dollar Ride", which would have been the only drawing annotated except that all this just needed the whole creation process explained.
Brentos @ Tuesday, July 1st 2014, 7:36 AM
It totally made my day when you said the Cross Time cafe is still a thing. Not sure what you can do with this but Sam is totally saying "nnnniiiiiice! Did you steal it?"...
pinderhooks @ Thursday, July 3rd 2014, 12:10 AM
He didn't steal it, he found it sitting in the basement of the Alamo!
Sakana_Katana @ Sunday, July 6th 2014, 4:37 PM
AWESOMESAUCE! What good fortune to win more Brentos "aht"!
Of course The Cross Time Cafe is still a thing! Well, a place actually, either way it's yet a noun: http://www.whiteponyproductions.com.....c/present.htm. I was even in it, a while back, through a favour repaid by FPS and CTC irregular Roy Calbeck -- http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5120256/ .
I used to work with a featureless void or, was it being in one? Never mind: I can now point here as proof. What can be done with this? It can still be posted to FA & DA after soon uploading a backlog of older stuff that's on this media slate.
How you primarily associated Sam Starfall with The CTC, "Ida know". Freefall (http://freefall.purrsia.com/) IS one of the ponies that makes up their stable but, while I've read its archive, don't recall seeing the kleptomaniac Sqid there; Florence Ambrose the Bowman's Wolf and robot Helix, yes.
Glad you had fun with it. Wonder what Mark Stanley will think of your homage when I show him? Thanks for doing this.
Brentos @ Wednesday, July 16th 2014, 2:13 AM
I hope he likes how I drew him, especially how he appears to be drinking a rye and coke. I'm not even sure if his character drinks or not. It's been like ten years since I was reading his comic regularly, it would take hours for me to read the whole thing now I bet. It's unlikely that I'll email him but you could tell him how much I admire his comic as still one of the best out there. I can never figure out how writers like him always have something hilarious in like three or four panels and still have a storyline. Freefall should be on TV! Or a movie or something...
And also: Here's hoping you win my next contest! Ah who am I trying to kid, all those other shmucks don't stand a chance...
Sakana_Katana @ Wednesday, July 16th 2014, 2:51 AM
Haven't told him, yet but, yes I'll include your comments. And, oh, what I already have in mind for the next one, should I win. Muah ha ha!
Thanks, Brentos!
And, that's the rest of the back-stooooooooooory. Good day.
PS; So far, to the best of my knowledge, Mark hasn't found this independently on Ninechime. I've waited to refer this to him after posting here. Let's see if he includes Brentos's Sam in his gallery of fan art. His responses will be appended here.

PPPS: On 6/17/15, after a 5-month delay due to a mixup of what I hoped would be done with it, Mark Stanley posted Brentos's pic "below the fold" on the page of his webcomic "Freefall."
