Figured I'd showcase all the designs of goggles I've made in the last year or so. Top ones should be pretty familiar, that's just the set I made for myself some time back. However, since making those, I've gotten requests from time to time, usually people wanting to buy mine. I was reluctant to sell something I'd crafted specifically for myself, and even though I rarely wear them these days, I still balk at the idea of selling them. I was willing to make a new set for them, though. And so it began...
The first set is the "MalX" design, made for Malichai Lomu.He just said he wanted night vision goggles, so I worked in two kinds of light, controlled by the spheres on either side of the lenses. I mucked about with some prim torture along the lens cups, and liked the steel ribbing so I kept it.
The second set is the "Photographer's Goggles," a design made for Dizzy Sparrow. Her outfits were steampunk/victorian, and she's a photography major. The idea of combining the two into glasses seemed obvious. While some creative license was taken on what the old cameras had for parts, I tried to stick to what I could see for the most part, with her help on some bits and bobs. This set was a little more circular for the band, as she wanted to replace the band on one of her top hats with them.
The most recent set is the "Schoonmaker Schpectacles," a set of goggles made at the behest of Chaffro Schoonmaker. Given complete free reign on this set, it was my first experience in actually doing a true commission goggle set. Chaffro was fantastically easy to work with, and I'd usually only need to ask him one or two things about it - Though this is probably because he didn't have much in the way of guidelines to begin with. I tried some new ideas and brought back some old - Re-used the steel ribbings, for one. He wanted the set to look similar to mine, so I used mine as a base for them. None of the shots show it off very well, but there curved piece on the top of the right cup has a bar of light that sweeps back and forth. This set was essentially my chance to rebuild my old goggles with a few new things, and not have to worry about losing the old set. The one major addition he requested was the lens design, which he provided me with. I have to say, he made a great choice, the lenses look really cool with that pattern on them.
