Shiki delivers Lord Hul's message to Turja. Hul often sends Shiki, a close ally within the royal family, to do his errands.
On this page, I used my new toys--a set of Staedtler pigment liner pens. I believe they're the exact same ones that Jay Axer uses. I've actually used them on a few of the recent color drawings I've posted, but this is the first comic page I've used them on. They're the most reliable inking pens I've used thus far.
Also, this is the first LQC page I've managed to draw on a single piece of paper. Well, almost--I made a serious mistake on Turja's throne, so I had to redraw some of it on an additional sheet. But on the first two pages, I was so indecisive and made so many mistakes that I just patched them together using the best takes on each particular panel I had lying around. In one case, I actually resorted to cleaning up a pencil sketch in a tiny spiral notebook and transplanting it into the first page because it was the closest thing I had to the way I wanted that panel to be.
And at the suggestion of eggplantman, I did something I haven't done regularly since I was twelve--I used elliptical word balloons! They're kind of hard to get used to again, particularly since I don't like the way the ellipses look when I use the shape drawing tool in Paint Shop Pro. But hopefully my comic looks more like the way the pros do it now.
Did I mention that I really hate drawing Turja's throne? Fortunately, I won't have to do it again--at least not for a while.

I actually enjoy drawing the details on Turja's throne--at least the ornamentation and stuff. The problem is keeping the thing in proper perspective, with all those weird parts it has--particularly the extra-wide arm rests. Those are necessary to stretch over the extra-wide seat, which in turn is needed so that there's room for Turja's tail. What it boils down to is that Turja's throne has different proportions from those of a chair a human would sit in, so it's hard to make the thing look right, especially when viewed from an angle that isn't straight on.
Glad you noticed the detail I put into the background paintings. I was wondering if I was wasting my time putting it there. :)
