This is a nice tutorial, even though I use GIMP and many of the things you mentioned are not available in GIMP.
However, why do you scale the image to double size? You could still get the same effect if you zoomed in?
But does Photoshop not support that? Or are you purposely introducing resizing artifacts in the process?

Resizing an image... I didn't know about that before, but I think it is useful. It makes mistakes less visible and also the lines get thiner than. It's no necesairy, but try comparing an art drawn with and without resizing, you'll see a difference..... ehhh but double the size BEFORE you do the lineart, if you first do the lineart, you won't see a difference
