I think that I may have over did the picture this time, but woah… I still can't believe that I made something this good. Not bad for my first picture of the year. It's going to be hard for me to top. Anyway…
As usual, (as if you didn't already know) this is the Eighth chapter of the story Raider's Steel continuing from where this ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14954896/ ) left off. please enjoy this very… something of a chapter for Raider's Steel. (To be honest, this is where things started to get a bit out of control for me.)
Ch. 8 Responsibility (Or Escape from Bowhive Base part 1)
Thirty-four year old Damian Barker rushed through the forest. The trees were passing him like a blur. No, a buzz. Even with Steel to help clear his path, he couldn’t move fast enough. This was supposed to be a simple investigation. Nothing more. Steel should have been the only Pokémon he’d need. It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Now he was running for his life. No, he was running for everyone’s. They had to be warned of what was to come.
The buzzing was getting dangerously closer and Daimian was running out of energy.
“Master,” Steel’s eye lit up, “You need to leave me behind.”
“What? Tony, I can’t.”
“If I keep draining your energy,” Steel interrupted, “then they’ll catch all of us.”
“Then just go into hibernation if you’re so worried. I’m not going to–”
“Then I’ll just be dead weight for you to cary as well. You’re the only one who can warn everyone. Master, Let me protect you the only way that I can.”
Damian turned to see if they were still following him. There was no way to tell by the buzzing sound alone. He looked to Steel. It was a hard decision to make, but Damian knew that it was their only choice. He lowered his head in submission to the inevitable.
"I really wish that you'd stop sacrificing yourself for me."
"I know, Master…"
Steel looked over to a tree that was hollowed out. Damian moved quickly to do what Steel was thinking. He placed Tony’s Egg at the foot of the tree next to several large stones. He then slid Steel inside the tree as if it were the his sheath.
“I’ll come back for you once it’s safe, I promise,” Damian stated as Steel released his arm. His eye faded as he went into sleep mode. Once the consciousness was out, Damian bent down as if to pick up the Egg. He shook his head as he grabbed a fallen branch to cover it instead. He then picked up a large stone to carry in it’s stead.
“Be safe,” Damian stated, but then there was an echo. The buzzing seemed to stop as the forest around him shifted like ripples in the ocean. All he could hear was the sound of his own voice before as the wave hit him as well…, “be safe… safe… safe…”
“Safe,” Tony stated, eyes snapping open. Dimitree perked awake at his brother's little cries.
“Bad dream Raider,” Dimitree sighed, making certain to call him “Raider” in case Mama woke up as well. He was so close to not talking in his sleep this time. At least his mother didn’t seem to notice. The pair could still hear her snoring from her own bed across the room.
“Dimi,” Raider rubbed his eyes, as he tried to remember, “did I?”
“Sounds like she’s still asleep,” the Zorua’s ears wiggled, before he forcefully ripped his tail away from his brother’s grasp, “Never grab my tail again.”
“But it’s so Fluffy,” Raider stretched, smiling at the fact he overslept. It only meant that Steel was still draining some of his energy, despite them being apart for this long.
“You know how much I hate being grabbed there.”
“I know. It’s just-,” Raider was lost in thought for a moment, “safe…”
“What,” Dimitree questioned, “I already said that it was-”
“No, not that kind of safe,” Raider stated a little louder, “God, why didn’t I think of it before.”
“Think of what before?”
“The Kecleon Brothers have a safe,” Raider smiled to himself, “that’s where they keep their Poké and that must be where they’re keeping Steel too.”
Dimitree tilted his head again, “What’s a safe?”
“It’s a… how to explain it,” Raider explained, “have you ever seen them store their money anywhere?”
“Please don’t tell me you’re planning on stealing their money now,” Dimitree groaned.
“No, you’re missing the point,” Raider tried to think back, “I mean do you even know where they keep their Poké?”
“No, I’ve always seen one handle the Poké and the other handle the merchandise. But you never see them put it anywhere.”
“Why do you think that is?”
“I guess it’s because no one dares to try anything funny with them,” Dimitree thought, “I mean, just one of those Kecleon is strong enough to take on any Pokémon out there.”
“What about a sneak attack?”
“That wouldn’t work cause they watch each other’s backs.”
“Exactly, but what about when they sleep?”
“Simple. One would sleep, while the other keeps watch,” the Zorua stated before shaking his head, “seriously, what are you getting at?”
“I doubt they would,” Raider raised a single digit, “while they certainly trust each other enough, I don’t think either of them could sleep a wink knowing that they’re each carrying a large amount of Poké with them.”
“So?”
“Instead of keeping their earnings on them as they sleep, they would keep it somewhere hidden instead. Some place nobody could get to, except the two of them. That place is called a ‘safe’.”
“So that would mean…,” Dimitree asked, still not quite getting it.
Raider shook his head, “I don’t have time to explain it more than that. When do the Kecleon brothers close up shop on a normal day?”
“Soon, I guess,” Dimitree thought out loud, “that’s when Mama’s usually running late, but… wait. You’re not thinking of-”
“You bet,” Raider patted the dirt off his legs as he stood, “I have to do it now while my head’s still clear.”
“Mama will kill you for running off twice in one day,” Dimitree gulped, “and then kill me for letting you.”
“Not if I’m still taking my nap,” the Riolu grinned, hinting for how his brother should cover for him.
Dimitree just glared at him, “you’re evil, you know that…”
“Well, how long can you keep an illusion up?”
“Honestly, if it was anyone else I might fool them for a few hours,” the Zorua frowned, “Mama, on the other hand, would see through my Illusions right away.”
“In that case,” Raider thought again, “don’t just let me wonder off.”
Dimitree was now more confused. Raider didn’t have the time to explain the plan to his brother in full, so he decided to make it as simple as possible for Dimitree. He took a few steps up to his brother and smiled wide with that fake smile he had to put on all the time. He reached out a paw to “boop” Dimi’s nose.
“Tag! You’re it,” Raider giggled before he ran a couple of steps away and used Dig.
Dimitree took a few seconds to register what just happened. He blinked rapidly as he processed the information that was running through his head. He didn’t understand what Tony’s plan was. Was he just running away and…
“Wait a minute,” Dimitree finally sprinted after his brother, “get back here you devil!”
Dimitree hopped down the hole and crawled quickly until he made it to the other side. The tunnel led straight to the hallway, where Raider was already waiting for him. It wasn’t much of a chase as all the Zorua had to do was poke his head out of the tunnel to find Raider. The Riolu was tapping his foot as he looked down on his brother.
“What took you so long?”
“Me,” Dimitree squealed, “What do you think you’re doing?”
“Keep it down,” Raider shushed.
“You’re just trying to get me in trouble, aren’t you!”
“Why would you get in trouble if all you were doing was trying to catch me from sneaking off in the middle of the night,” Raider thought about how this could work, as if it wasn’t all part of his plan, “Sounds like you’re being a responsible big brother to me.”
“Tff,” Dimitree spat, “forcing me to grow up again…”
“Not really,” Raider turned to walk down the hallway, his hands behind his head, “my alibi is that I’m just running away thinking it’s part of the game. And yours is that you’re just trying to catch me, it’s so simple even if we do get caught this time then neither of us will get in any real trouble.”
“Oh,” Dimitree ran to catch up to his brother, “then I suppose you want me to look for you somewhere else?”
“Why would you,” Raider lowered his head a bit, “there’s only one place that I’d go. Everyone knows it.”
“In that case,” Dimitree shifted ever so slightly in Raider’s eyes, but he couldn’t see anything different, “Let’s make it harder for them to catch you.”
“What did you do,” Raider took note of how his voice seemed to leave a bit of an echo.
“I made you invisible, sort of,” Dimitree explained as his brother took a closer look at his own body. He was invisible, but only at certain parts of his body. His paw pads were more than visible and so was his tail so long as it was turned away from the Zorua. Dimitree could only put up the illusion so far away from his own body.
“You’ll just have to stay close to me as I look for ‘you’ at the Kecleon shop. Then when they’re not looking you slip off and hide on your own.”
“That’s surprisingly sharp of you.”
“And just what is that supposed to mean,” Dimitree glared as his brother hopped onto his back.
“It means I don’t have to be the smart one anymore,” Raider laughed as he pat his big brother’s head. This was even better than his original plan anyway.
“You really are a devil aren’t you,” Dimitree frowned as he took off for the Kecleon shop.
“Now for the very last thing,” the red stripped Kecleon stated to his blue stripped partner.
“Off to put our earnings away,” smiled the blue as he plopped in the last few Poké into his bag, “it’s all here too.”
“You think that thing’s going to try something this time,” the red one paused, waiting for his brother’s reply. Only it would never come, as the young Zorua came rushing in. The blue one was the first to notice Dimitree.
“Is Raider here?”
“What,” the pair turned their attention to the panicking Zorua.
They failed to see past Dimitree’s illusion, but it didn’t make either of the young Pokémon any less nervous when the Kecleon were looking their way. Dimitree did his best to keep his illusion up. Making something not there appear would be easy. Making something appear to not be there was excruciatingly hard to maintain. Raider, in turn, tried not to distract his brother. Despite this, he couldn’t help smiling from ear to ear.
“We haven’t seen him,” stated the blue striped one, as the red finished, “Not since we returned him earlier today.”
“Are you sure,” Dimitree circled around the room, honestly looking for someplace for Raider to slip off at, “Oh, Mama’s gonna kill me…”
“Has he ran away again,” the blue asked, to which Dimitree nodded.
“Are you sure,” asked the red one.
“I was so certain he’d come here. Mama’s gonna kill me,” Dimitree cried, or at least his illusion did. His real form was looking at his invisible rider, silently asking where he could drop him off. While the Kecleon did their best to comfort the crying Zorua, Raider’s eyes scanned the room, looking for an opportune spot.
“Then how about we check the back,” the red asked the other.
“But weren’t you just back there,” the blue one tilted his head.
“You’re right,” the red replied, “I didn’t see him…”
“Please help me find him,” Dimi’s illusion cried their non-existent tears. The Kecleon had no idea what to do. They were each torn between their loot and the safety of their favorite little thief. Not that they had long to think about it. A more pressing matter made it’s presence known in the shape of a panicking Floette.
“Out of the way! Out of the way,” Zephyr zipped her way into the room as well, “injured Pokémon coming through!”
Before anyone had a chance to take in the message, Liteyeer followed quickly by Pobon entered the Kecleon shop carrying a makeshift stretcher. Raider didn’t recognize the Pokémon on the stretcher at first. However, it wasn’t that hard to guess that it was a pink Deerling after the Explorer Team had placed her and the stretcher on the ground. The boys felt sorry for her as she looked like she was in a lot of pain.
“My goodness,” the Kecleon brothers inquired, “what happened to her?”
“We don’t know,” Liteyeer fumbled with his Poké before dumping it all on the table, “We need Oran Berries… Now!”
“Right away Liteyeer,” the blue one saluted while the red rushed for the back room. At that very moment, the Deerling’s coat shifted from Pink to Green, “What in the!?!”
“That’s been happening every couple of minutes or so,” Liteyeer frowned, “ever since we found her just outside Pilot Forest.”
“You don’t think,” Dimitree whispered to his brother. Raider would have asked what the Zorua was thinking, however his nemesis decided to ask his own question.
“What are you doing out here so late,” Pobon took a couple steps closer to the pair.
“None of your business Psycho Swine,” Dimitree shouted. It was the perfect remark considering that the psychic would sense even when Dimitree lied to him. Okay well, almost perfect considering how angry Pobon became for being called that little nickname for him.
“Now’s not the time Pobon,” Liteyeer stopped the Grumpig from charging, “we have more important matters to take care of first.”
Pobon resisted this, but he reluctantly turned his attention back to the twitching Deerling. The red stripped Kecleon returned just in time to see her coat change color again, this time to Orange. She coughed lightly, but otherwise remained speechless. It was at this time that Raider noticed something, he quickly (and quietly) pointed it out to Dimitree.
“Is she an Explorer too,” the Zorua asked pointing to the badge that hung so lightly off her neck.
“No,” Zephyr decided to zip by Dimitree (while nearly causing Raider to fall off his brother’s back), “the badge isn’t even hers. We checked it out. It belongs to a Gizmodious Jackstadt Popjammer Warwick the 13th. But of course that’s impossible because those names are reserved by those techno savvy Pokémon, not a nature loving Pokémon like me or Deerling. In fact, her name could be Daisytop, or Lilly Skipper, or Blossom Way, or River Jumper or-”
“Bambi,” Pobon interrupted the spastic fairy. Everyone in the room looked to see that the Grumpig was busy reading the Deerling’s mind for clues, “Her name is Bambi. She’s only one year old and it seems that this affliction of hers is…”
What happened next was a little hard to explain. Just as Pobon was about to pry just a little deeper, the Grumpig’s head just… exploded. There was no loud noise, but his eyes and mouth flashed a bright red as Pobon recoiled to the ground. His glasses flew across the room. At the same time, Bambi’s coat shifted to it’s black winter coat. She shivered a moment before her coat (as best as Raider could guess) reverted back to it’s normal pink shade. Before either of the brothers could inquire any further, Liteyeer shouted to Zephyr.
“Get Dimitree out of here. Now!”
“Okay,” the Floette saluted as she zipped to push Dimitree out of the room. She was shockingly strong for someone her size, “wow, you sure are heavy for a…”
All Zephyr had to do was look up to see Raider staring her in the face. The following scream was enough to break Dimitree’s Illusion, make Raider fall off his ponyta, and alert the Kecleon brothers to the entire deception.
“Raider… was on your back the whole TIME,” the pair shouted together. One after the other, it was impossible to tell which one was originally blue at the moment though. Dimitree was scared out of his mind. The Kecleon had every right to skin the two of them alive. And then send them home to whatever punishment their mother had in store for them. Luckily, the shop owners were stopped once again by Liteyeer.
“Now’s not the time you two,” he sparked with anger himself, “you can deal with those two’s prank in the morning. Right now, we need more medicine.”
“Fine…,” the Kecleon slowly lightened up as Zephyr shooed the young ones out of the room.
“Really! What would your mother think of you Dimitree,” Zephyr tisked before continuing on yet another sugar high rant about one thing or another. Didn’t really matter what about. No one was listening to her after that.
Dimitree gulped at the thoughts of what punishments now awaited him. He barely looked at his brother to make these fears clear to him. Raider slowly bit his bottom lip. He wanted Steel back, but now… Mellon’s never going to let him out of her sight again. Not to mention Dimitree would be punished for something that wasn’t even his fault.
Before reaching the doorway, Raider stopped dead in his tracks. He took a deep breath, turned, and ran back inside. Zephyr was too busy with her own conversation to notice the baby was missing.
“Raider, go ho-,” the pair started, but the noise escaping their lips ceased at what they heard coming out of Raider’s mouth.
“It’s not Dimitree’s fault,” Raider shouted. The room’s eyes focused entirely on Raider now. He never felt so frightened in his entire life. It was as if he was standing on stage with nothing but his underpants on. (Not a very good metaphor considering he literally was naked as most normal Pokémon are.)
“It was my idea to trick you and I’m the one who put Dimi up to it. I just wanted-,” Raider fell to his knees, hands up as if in prayer, “I… I’m the one at fault here. Not Dimi… And I’m sorry. Please don’t tell Mama! Please, just punish me! Punish me instead!”
The room fell silent. Sure, Liteyeer raised his head to see that Dimitree was still standing next to Zephyr. He was clearly not using any illusion this time. The Kecleon brothers responded the most appropriately, considering that their jaws were resting firmly on the ground. The barely a month old Riolu was speaking properly with no trouble at all. Liteyeer only stared at the infant now. His mind trying to process what was happening. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he slowly huffed a sigh.
“We have more important things to worry about right now,” Liteyeer pointed to the door, “Go home for now. We’ll discuss this in the morning.”
Raider did nothing else but rise back up to his feet and run back to his brother. His mind now matched with his young body; as all he could do was cry the rest of the way home.

What the heck, dude! This is a huge step up from your past pictures. Well, for the most part anyway…
The story feels a bit slow, but then just rushed near the end this time though. I don't know what you have planed but I'm looking forward to finding out. (ps. and don't tell me either. I wanna find out on my own...)
