I ordered a Monster Maker's head form on Sunday, and it arrived today! It's weird because I payed for ground shipping, and the delivery time frame starts tomorrow, and ends on Tuesday... but yay I have it now! I wanted to get a head form that lasted because I might take fursuit commissions in the future, and I would start with just doing heads to get a taste of what taking commissions would be like to see if I could take more than making fursuit heads. I might actually do toony heads if/when I take commissions because I've never tried making a head from a balaclava base, but I'd have to try it for myself first to make sure I'm good enough to make them for other people ^^;
Anyways, I had just enough time to put Yurei's head WIP on the head base and snap a few pics before leaving. This was a slapdash job of getting it on there because I was in a rush, so Yurei's head isn't sitting quite right on there. I still have to redo the ears, take off the tape around the cheeks so that I can put a little foam on there to cover up the hinges and springs as well as give the mouth and end point (so the head kinda looks more like one piece), and find the right color lycra or spandex to use for the mouth flaps. So much work to do... :/

The only reason Yurei's face is in the bottom right frame is because I only had enough time to get three pics and the collage layout was the only one that worked XD

I used this spandex for the mouth flaps: http://spandexworld.com/c3/catalog/product/6482
Unfortunately it seems they're out.
This is the category it's in; maybe something else is more appropriate for yours (mine was definitely more of a salmon color and less of a pink or red color). http://spandexworld.com/c3/catalog/browse/33
Either way, search the site. They were great about swatches and I had no trouble with them at all.

I've looked on their site before, and they have a couple colors that could work for me, but I'm not thrilled about the minimum $20 purchase even though I need less than $6 of the light pink matte spandex. But no other place I can find has the right color. After getting this $70 head form, money is a wee bit tight for a little bit, but if it's necessary, after getting swatches, I'll get the $20 of fabric.
How did you attach the mouth flaps on Rinn's head? I have an idea on how to attach them, but I wanted to get some advice from someone who's done it before.

So the flaps are just rectangles cut with "no fray" scissors (those scissors that cut fabric into a jagged zigzag edge) then folded in half to give the front side a smooth edge. I hot glued the top and bottom to the inside of the upper and lower mouth. Make sure you do this along the stretchy length of the spandex (most spandex is 2-way stretch so you have to find which direction it stretches). I did it so that it was not folded or wrinkled when the mouth was slightly open, and when fully open, it's stretched to the limit. It doesn't matter if it's loose when fully closed since you can't see it anyway.
To give the forward edges a slight curve, I kind of tugged it back in certain parts as I hot glued it down--hard to explain, but if you just manipulate it as you go, you'll probably figure it out. It's all just hot glue. Spandex glues well. Make sure to score/roughen the interior a lot where you intend to glue.
If there's something I'd fix in the future, it would be to go back and re-do these flaps with longer pieces of spandex. They kind of restrict the jaw from opening fully because they're so short.
