Interactions between Russo and Dark have been steadily increasing as of late as the god adopts an increasingly hands on approach to twisting and guiding the narrative that is Russo's day to day life. Making good on a promise to divulge further details about just how far back his relationship with and manipulation of mortalkind goes, Dark drags an unwilling Russo into his realm. For a history lesson, if you will.
Shady History
What I have here is a history lesson of sorts for the Shady universe told through Twine. Some of you may remember that Diverging Duel I did a year and a half ago where you got to choose your sparring fight between Jem and Russo. This is similar but different. Whereas that story was very interactive and readers could decide the ending, this one is fairly linear. However, branching paths are offered for you to tread down to expand and extrapolate on different details and aspects of Shady Impressions' world at your leisure. First time I've done something like this. It's an experiment more than anything and I don't know whether to consider it a success or failure. It's... something. I can say that much. Hopefully the results prove somewhat entertaining at the very least.
This was not supposed to take anywhere near as long as it did to complete. I honestly thought I would have this finished before Halloween at one point but the scope of this project constantly expanded far beyond my expectations. To be honest, it's more likely that I simply underestimated how much time, effort, and words it would take to even come close to achieving what I had in mind. Almost seven months. It's been almost seven months since my last post. That is embarrassing. The only consolation I can take is that this Twine story is roughly 25,000 words and that's about on par with five months of writing. I have something to show for all that time but holy hell was it frustrating just sitting on it for so long.
For the most part Twine is fairly easy to use. Just use Restart to go all the way back to the beginning of the story and Rewind to return to prior checkpoints. Wherever the story branches off in a major way I added a checkpoint as a heads up. Then of course you progress the story by clicking on the links within the pages.
So without further ado, to dig into this latest addition to Shady feel free to click on the link below so graciously provided by
incongruency. Google Drive sucks for hosting Twine now and incon was gracious enough to help me get my own little Twine story hosted and up and running.
ALSO A HEADS UP. I do have background music implemented into this Twine story. Do not be overly alarmed as atmospheric music starts playing while you navigate your way through the story. Wanted to communicate that so people could prepare themselves or react accordingly.
Shady History
Included below is a link to the finished Twine file itself for those of you that might even be remotely interested in Twine and setting up and interactive story of your own. It's not pretty by any stretch of the imagination but it is functional.

You monster... You worked so hard to write so much I'll never be fully certain I've taken all the possible paths! How am I supposed to know the entirety of their history now, huh? How is my burning desire to assimilate all this information gonna be sated now?! Jeez, who do you think you are making such fabulous work? The nerve of some people...
I hope you're proud of yourself!
I hope you're proud of yourself!
Indeed I do dare to write so much and adorn it with a dash of fabulous to spite you! >:V Bwahaha it brings me no small amount of pride to know that I have taunted you with such world building so as to overwhelm and ensnare you!
Heh rambling aside I am fairly proud of myself! Looking back on it I do still see lots of room for improvement as this was my first time doing something like this. Though more than anything I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it! There aren't too many paths that branch or diverge wildly from one another so hopefully it isn't too much to take in. Thank you very much for the comment and for reading, Dracodare. :3

Took me a while but I got through it again, and it was time well spent! I'm just baffled at how much content there is here man. X3 It was really fascinating to get a look-see at Dark's machinations and the past of this world you've built up over such a long time. Not gonna lie, was also a little cathartic how Russo could poke at Dark once or twice. He may be a gigantic asshole god of darkness but he's not without pride.
You are right to be proud of yourself! You got down quite a bit, like your own mini Silmarillion! But seriously, was an infinitely fascinating read even the second time. Great job Sir Reep, I look forward to your future Twiney excursions and writings of all kinds! >:3

Thank you kindly, Mannoth! I've always felt my world building has been somewhat lacking in Shady and this was an attempt to do a whole hell of a lot of it at once. Was worried that it might come off as too dense and overwhelming given how much I crammed in there. Hopefully it sounds like that wasn't the case which I'm pleased to hear! You've already seen my next Twiney plottings but glad to know you're looking forward to it all the same. :3
