after watching The Land Before Time, All Dogs Go To Heaven, and The Secret of NIMH (all while being incredibly, incredibly drunk) and discussing Don Bluth with my good friend Robyn (who was also incredibly, incredibly drunk) i realized how much of a passion i do truly have for animation, and because of that decided to animate my own character doing something relatively simple.
this is partly a challenge for myself, and also done in hopes to make a simple animation good enough to use to possibly get into animation school
this is the preliminary animation, soon i'm going to ink it, create a background, and color and shade it. i'm going to shade and ink it in a few different styles to see which one i prefer for myself.
so what do you guys think?

thank you for the compliments on the expressions. i worked very hard on them!
i don't believe i've posted any pictures of this character or this specie before. i did start to make a comic out of the story i have in my mind, but since my scanner isn't functioning i don't think i'll be able to post it soon.

need a new scanner, then? I can try and comission you a couple times more, if that helps. :)
hmm, comics are hard work, at least to me, the last attempt got stuck on page three. of course, the fact that I neglected to write up a storyboard might have been helping not in the matters... but somewhere I lost patience, I think.

haha! thank you for the help, but right now i'm going to finish the commissions i have and probably not take more for a while. but thank you so much! i'll definitely keep you in mind.
having a storyboard or a script for a comic can really, really help you draw it out. i lost interest in it because all of my markers that i were using to color it were dying and i couldn't afford to buy more.

i have a love-hate relationship with watercolors: i love what other people can do with them, but i hate actually working with them. i tend to over-work them and add to much white (instead of properly layering) and the colors end up looking muddy for me. i prefer working with acrylics because they can get the watercolor feel without becoming muddy so easily.
there are many different ways to illustrate comics, and it's very popular for American comic artists to use digital medium. i've never heard of aquarel myself, what is it?

if I'm not mistaken, it's actually watercolour with better pigmentation. but otherwise it's the same medium. in german it's used to divide cheap 'school'-watercolours from the better pigmented artist stuff.
that digital colouring has some problems for me, because most surfaces appear too shiny then. not that I'd mind shiny, but, come on, a supposed jeans that looks like polished latex? naah... ^^
