Wanted to chime in here on this one...
This was actually commissioned to serve as the cover image, so to speak, for a largely romantic Scarecrow/Dorothy adventure which was meant to be a sequel story to the 1939 MGM movie(with Judy Garland, of course), but which incorporated elements from unfilmed stories L. Frank Baum wrote(in this case, elements from "The Patchwork Girl of Oz", and "The Lost Princess of Oz", with a dash of "The Marvelous Land of Oz").
The story..."The Ruby Slippers of Oz"...is completed and has been posted to https://www.fanfiction.net . My handle there is "WTalespinner".
You'll even get a "Labyrinth" sequel story, to boot! :)
It also goes without saying, of course, that this commission was indeed marvelous work. :D
