Another old picture of mine, but I decided to upload this here, as well, on account it has a very important history.
Okay, so we've established that my original fursona was a green dragon with fin-ears, a horn on his nose, and a red mane. Here's the problem: he wasn't me. He was his own character with his own story. While that might be okay for some people's fursonas, I wanted a fursona that was, in essence, me in furry form.
So I started thinking about what animal I'd like to be the most. The decision came down to either being a raccoon or a skunk, each for the same reason: I really liked their fur pattern. Raccoons had that mask and ringed tail, and skunks of course had their recognizeable white stripes. It was a tough choice, but the winner was the raccoon, on account Super Mario Bros. 3 was probably one of the earliest influences on me becoming a furry (Raccoon Mario FTW).
But I didn't want to leave behind my dragon fursona, entirely. He was an important part of my furry history. So I decided to "inherit" some of his traits, the most obvious details being the red headfur and dragon wings. There's also the horn on my nose, my ears are a bit fin-like, and my skin is a pale green. Although I eventually decided that I didn't like the fin-ears and the sickly green skin, so nowadays I just have regular 'coony ears, and I'm a more proper 'coony color.
So that's how my dracoon fursona came to be. The year was 2006. And while I've dabbled in alternate forms, and in fact in recent years decided to age regress into a child, my fursona has remained relatively unchanged. And that's pretty impressive in a fandom like this.
Lineart took ~2 hours, 25 minutes
Coloring took ~1 hour, 20 minutes
I gotta point out the button flaps at the bottom of my shirt. The way I see it, in order to wear a shirt when you have big wings attatched to your back, it's gotta be able to button from the back.
Also, it's worth noting that since choosing my fursona, skunks have become my favorite animal, almost to the point of obsession. And it makes me wonder... had I chose to be a skunk instead of a raccoon, would raccoons have become my favorite animal, instead?
