Back in November I broke my glasses in the shower. I've been wearing an old pair of prescription sunglasses ever since, which was far from optimal, while trying to get insurance to cover at least part of the cost of replacements. A couple of weeks ago, I finally got to come in to my opticians and pick out a new pair of frames. I had to take pictures of myself in different frames so that I could see what I looked like.
These are NOT the frames I picked. However, I was amused by how close they made me look to a certain annoying computer from a terrible old TV show.

They certainly would have been noticed! I was looking for something more low-key, though.
...I'm imagining an otter as the Starlost Sphere Projector.
"Can I be of... assistance?"
"How can my friends and I save the ship?"
"N-n-n-not my department! Take it up with all those dead people on the bridge. Wanna play tag instead?"

Starlost would have been better if they played it for laughs, like Lost In Space, but they would have needed a Johnathan Harris to play an iconic, recurring villain like Dr Smith. The closest they had was Walter Koenig playing Oro in a couple of episodes. And it might have helped if they'd had actual SF writers contributing scripts. I mean, they had Harlan Ellison and supposedly Ben Bova on staff! They had access to any number of talented Canadian SF writers who could have used the paycheque! There really was no excuse for The Starlost. Budget, maybe...
well, you have my apologies if my statement came off in any other way than being humourous.. you are correct that the show could have been much better.. sadly, when the writers changed Harlan's vision of it, that helped add to the problems with the show..
in any event, I was just amused at your mention of the show.. there are still a lot of people my age (50) who had never even heard of Starlost
