A component for an upcoming page of my comic 'By The Book'. The character is Perrick-a nervy healer that enjoys swimming and building things.

Yeah-it suddenly occurred to me after Koatek got hurt-'what's Perrick doing?'-he'd want to get over there and heal Koatek. Also I'd omitted an earlier panel with Meg telling Perrick and Neptunia what to do, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a short scene addressing that :) It's just three pages but it works pretty well I think and helps break up the fight.
Gotta avoid too many big fights like this-they're entertaining but they really eat up the pages and slow story progression down to a crawl-though I do try to use them as a way of fleshing out the characters. That's really the purpose of this whole side of the story-to introduce some important characters to the setting :) It seems slow now, but in the grand scheme of things I think it'll be worth it :)

Thanks! :) Yeah, comics take a long time. It's nice to do a single pinup every now and then, but comics are where my heart is. Putting your characters into a sequence of panels and giving them voice and action beyond a single pose. It feels like a kind of magic to me-like they're coming to life :) It is a lot of work though. One page takes between 10-15 hours (depending on complexity)-and that's by repeatedly using per-existing props like backdrops and the like to save time ;)
