Wait ... wouldn't it be dess? 'z' is for voiced 'th'. Of course 'det' would also be convenient; after all, sometimes voiced 'th' turns to 'd' in English. Voiceless could turn to 't'.
How is "thrice" pronounced?? It would have to be "trice" not "srice", right?
... Looking back I see the solution to voiceless 'th' has been to write 'zh', which I've simply read however I felt like at the time. Now, in some languages 'zh' is different from 'z' - 'zh' represents the fricative in e.g. "vision" (the 's').
Is "somezhing" pronounced "somesing" like in my head, or "someshing", or perhaps "someting"?
The "th" sound is actually pretty rare in languages (worldwide anyway). Yinglets are pretty unlucky to be living somewhere where it's used.

Maybe! In addition to the general "draw more, get better" phenomenon, I'm always trying out new little techniques, and I've had a lot of success in the last week or so with putting bolder outlines on the characters to help the eye catch the overall forms faster/easier, as well as drawing shadows in the same general color as the surface they lay upon, as opposed to just using grays.
Both of these seem to make a noticeable difference, and don't take too much longer to include, so I'll probably keep doing it.

I bet she will be one of the best, even the day she goes totally blind if she's one of the best. There're blind people who are able to do a lot of things from what I understand. Somewhere I think some blind even played computer games using their ears to hear, have no idea how that might work. Some blind are good at playing music instruments. So I bet she will be fine as well and teach the young ones to become as good as her before her vision is gone one day.
I'm glad to hear this minor character is resounding so much with you! I can't seem to grasp the concept of "non-protagonist characters," and put more backstory and personal motivations into characters in the background than I probably should. On the upside, knowing more about them makes them a lot easier to write!
And yes, pre workers'-rights eras aren't known for being kind to those who can no longer work, but she's been the head of the Ivenmoth tailors for so many years that just about everyone in the organization has had help from her at least once; she'll be well taken care of. :)

Aw man, thanks! I think that more than anything else, I've just spent a lot of time absorbing stuff like history, social/cultural info, and of course, other stories. The more stuff you load into your head, the more ideas you have to refer back to when making characters, settings and all that. And I didn't start writing this story until I was 30, so I've had plenty of time to compile!
I get the feeling that everyone who sees Kass dressed in this uniform will laugh at her thinking this is some prank or joke poking fun at the guard. And that if he actually tried to order around someone who had no idea what was going on with her she would break the record for "Longest distance a Yinglet was punted"
Oh wow, the irony of getting the exact status he had his eye on, with none of the future he desired (I think all too many people have experienced that, but this is probably one of the stranger cases, even in fiction). Heh, well at least his friends will benefit from the status upgrade, so I guess that kind of one positive on the stretching list of negatives.
I surprisingly totally didn't think about it this way until I read this comment. In Kass' situation I'd be freaked out about a lot, but not about the political stuff. Kass never set out to be a diplomat; it's just something being thrust upon him. So if he goofs things up it's not really his fault.
...That's right, I don't take responsibility for mistakes I make in tasks I didn't have much choice about. On the other hand I get really stressed about mistakes when acting on my own initiative.

"You know that feeling when someone is right in your face and clearly upset, but you aren't feeling intimidated and just can't stop smiling no matter how hard you try to stop because the whole situation is just embarrassing?"
Yes, unfortunately… Although, I'm usually the one that was upset… people find it cute…

Stress levels at maximum

Sudden realization that he/she hasn't taken the time to sit down and really process what's happened

Immediate statement that he/she in fact has no time to do so, and must go out and do something very stressful/important

Conspiracy to cause a mental brewkdown

Oh god yes. That angle is pushing it, but achievable; they can pull their 'shoulders' back further than humans, since they're mounted near the torso much like a rodent's. I knew there would be some artistic limitations about the poses yinglets could make, but if I ever come up against one that they really can't achieve, then that's just an opportunity to have Kass struggle even more.
As everyone else has also said, I freaking love that girl's cute little blush and crooked smile in the last panel. :D
And yeah Kass is in for some serious tormenting isn't he? ;)
Just be careful not to punish him too much, give him the occasional 'win' - prequeladventure got super depressing after a while for me because of a lack of that.

I got that feeling too, even though I still enjoy it greatly; I did however tell myself not to let this comic get too dark or failure-laden without some wins. Kass is just figuring out what the game is, but he's definitely the type to find ways to make things work for him.
Man, it always makes my day to hear something like this. Half the reason I started drawing this is because it's the sort of story I wanted to read more of myself (and hey, ya gotta be the change you want to see in the world, and all that), so that makes me feel like the comic's really doing what it was designed for! I've got many years' worth of ideas ready to feed into The OOPs, and we've only just finished the prologue, so there's plenty more to come!
Most nations have developed crossbow-like devices at this point in their history, so yes!
And I'm totally with you on gender equality in real life; this comic intentionally takes place when humanity is on the cusp of figuring out a lot of important stuff like that for some very good reasons, I assure you~

Oh wow; as a longtime reader of PREQUEL, that means a lot to me! I just started drawing this comic because I needed a project to keep me drawing regularly, and thought it would be fun to explore some themes and character types I wanted to see more of in comics; I never expected it would get nearly this much attention! So reading comments like this makes me even more excited about how far it's come, and where it's going, because there is so much fun stuff ahead. I will by all means keep it up!
One of my peoples has a word that is closely related to this I think: "Snizwiktz is a unique word to Anjali which means 'the need to laugh or poke fun at the stupidity of others, but being unable to do so because of their high station or the multi or cross cultural nature of the misunderstanding.’"
I think they should have a word that fits this situation a little better, but I haven't come up with one yet.

I really like the use of the mirror in the point-of-view shots as well as the use of focus. About that last panel… well, do I even have to say anything?
I'm very curious in how many ways Kassen will humiliate himself among the yinglet society. I've seen movies and TV portray similar instances in which a person is taken out of his/her element and placed into society that he/she is not used to, and usually the creators use this opportunity for comedy. Most often the case is an unwealthy, low-class person brought into a wealthy, higher-class lifestyle, and that's likely to happen to Kass since female yinglets hold some sort of significance in the enclave. I imagine Kass will sit down on his spine and Vizlet, along with a few others, will look at her like, "what's the hell the matter with him?" since that's not how they sit.
