The station bustled with life; aliens were coming this way and that, mixed in with the taurs, anthros and humans. Most of the aliens were humanoid, but some weren’t looking more alien then I thought possible. While, the basic shape reminded me of something’s, they were still a bit strange looking. One alien seemed to be a mixed of a bear like creature with the pincers of a crab.
Armoured Kino walked through the coward as they patrolled the station. Some stopping and looking around, maybe they were scanning the area, before they continued to walk. “Interesting they have the more bulky ones” Christie said to my side. I turned my head and looked at her a bit confused. “Those are the more heavy power suits. They are sort of like walking tanks, able to deal damage or take it to let the other Kino get into position. But, I am guessing they have heavy stun weapons for on the station” the vixen taur explained.
We walked in silence as we picked up the supplies on both of our lists. I turned to Christie; my curiosity about what she said when we arrived, growing during our stay. “Christie, you said that the Kino are advance, yet you mentioned another race. Who were they?” I asked looking at her. “Who, the Nexians?” she asked looking back at me. I paused as I nodded slowly, after thinking for a second, “Yeah, I think that’s the name.” “Well, the Nexians are said to be a rather advance race. Not much just rumours really. They are said to be one of the more advanced races of the known universe… then again, no one has ventured out beyond the galaxy. So…. Yeah” Christie said as she looked towards me.
I nod as we walked on, looking at the shops. “So, should we split up?” I asked. “Hmmm, possible. I saw something that should be interesting, a device by the Kino” Christie said as I saw her get a twinkle in her eye, one I have come to know as when she is happy about a new piece of tech or project. “Well, I am sure I can find my way back. Go ahead, Christie” I said with a slight smile as the vixen taur turned and started to head towards a store.
Christie smiled as she walked into the store and looked around. The racks and shelves lined with various devices. Shelves on one side were full of blueprints, manuals, and various reading material of the latest technological wonders the Kino have made this year. Looking over, she noticed there was mention of one of the latest advancements, yet not displayed.
Turning the vixen taur walked to the counter and waited for the clerk to come. A Kino walked out, and nodded. “Can I help you?” he asked in a gruff tone. “Yeah, I saw mention of a new piece of Kino tech, yet don’t see it. Can you tell me what it is?” she asked. The Kino gave a grunt as he went to the room behind the counter. ‘Not much of a talker’ Christie thought to herself as she waited.
The Kino emerged with a box like device as he looked at her. “This is it. You want it or not?” he asked in his gruff voice. “Ah, how much would it cost and what is it?” she asked. The Kino just grunted a bit before looking at her. “It’s a holographic interface database. Designed to help engineers and technicians, are you one of those?” he asked looking at her. “Ah yeah an engineer, Ah… how much is the database?” she asked, her curiosity getting peaked by the fact it was an interactive database. The Kino looked to the device and then back. “General cost is 3,000 GC. But I can see the love of technology in your eyes. A love that is rare outside of my race. 1,900 GC” he said as Christie looked at him.
Her eyes darted back and forth between the Kino and the box as she tried to make her choice. “What the heck, deal” the vixen taur said as she fished out a data stick. “Hope this is ok” she said. The Kino nodded, and minutes later Christie walked out with the device. “Hope you are easy to operate” she said as she started to head back towards the hanger that was housing Freya for the time.
The walk was taking a bit as she looked at the device, as a thought crossed her mind. ‘I should find a way to repay Floaty and Fruity’ she thought, remembering the two Nexians she received the power generator to reboot Necetra’s systems. But the Nexians were a mysterious people, working in ways that those outside of the Nexus would find it hard to understand. ‘I should also check on her, cause her systems are running a bit better then what I thought they would’ she said. The cyborg dragon spent most of her time with Serra though, so getting her aside to find out more would be a bit interesting. ‘Then again, I am not an expert on cyborgs’ Christie thought. She paused a bit and looked at the device she held; maybe it would have info on what to do with cyborgs. Smiling to herself she continued to walk.
The vixen taur rounded the corner, when she heard a voice. “You with, the Starship Freya?” it asked. “Ah, yeah I am. You want anything?” she asked back, turning her head slightly. The figure nodded and smiled, “Yeah. I am looking for a job. Can you take me to your captain?”
I got the last of my part of the supplies onto Freya after an hour looking for them. I turned to see a blue ring appear and Serra step through into the medical bay, or the room we used as one. It did surprise me to see Serra walk about Freya, using those rings. “Hey Serra, why do you use the rings when walking to another part of Freya?” I asked looking at her. “Hmm? Oh, it’s just easier for me” the Drakenfox said simply. I nod as I figured that it might be after she was bitten, or at least that’s what Christie tells me what happens to those bitten by Drakenfoxes.
“Well, I have gotten a few things for the medbay. Not too much, just some things” I said, as I looked at the box or two that was stacked up in the corner. Serra went and had a quick look, and I noticed Necetra wasn’t with her. “Necetra not with you?” I asked. “Nah, she is sleeping, I don’t like to be separated from her for too long. But everything seems good” she said standing back up. “Yeah, again, thanks for filling in as a medic Serra. I promise once I found someone else that can take over, I will” I said to her. “It’s not too bad. Unless you need anything else, I will be going back” she said, before opening another blue ring and stepped through it. The ring closed behind her as I turned and headed out.
I stood back up and stretched, before turning and heading out the door. I did sort of force her into the role of our medic, when I asked if she had any medical training. But I still promise to find a ship doctor to at least take over the role. Though, I had the funny feeling that could take a little time.
I turned and started to head for one of the spare rooms, as I looked to see if any of the others were around. Nothing really, just silence. Then again, they could still be on the station or on the second deck. I sighed just a little as I walked down the corridor, it was start, and Freya wasn’t that large at the moment.
I looked and saw Christie walking towards me, with someone with her. I took a look at her guest as they stopped in front of me. Christie’s guest was a Fennec Fox, the sandy brown fur and large ears always a dead give-away when it comes to them. But, I couldn’t tell the gender, I mean the Fennec could either be a feminine boy, or a tomboyish girl, it was hard to tell. The Fennec was wearing what I would assume to be something like a pilots outfit. Red and blue being the main colour scheme, it seemed skin tight. But the coat over it, prevent me from getting further hints, and make me wonder isn’t the fox going to overheat themselves or something.
“Jack, I found someone who was interested in taking the position of the role of pilot for a small ship” Christie said as she gestured to her guest. I nod as I turned to the fennec fox and smiled, “Nice to meet you. Christie care to follow me to the meeting room?” The vixen taur nodded as we headed for the nearest room, which luckily had a table and some chairs.
Taking the chair with its back to the porthole of the room I looked towards the fennec. Brown eyes studied me as I studied the fox back. “I must admit, this is my first time interviewing. So forgive me if it seems awkward” I said as the fennec nodded. “Anyway, I’m Jack Holdams, captain of this ship. Who are you?” I asked, knowing the voice should give the gender. “I’m Sam Barera” a feminine voice said as the fennec answered. I nod, guessing that the Fennec was female. “Your age and gender?” I asked. The Fennec nodded and replied, “29 and female.” I nod, as her gender was revealed. “So, what made you interested in a job to pilot a small, experimental craft?” I asked leaning forward a bit. “Well, my first job was testing out an experimental crafts back home. I always have been interested in testing new vehicles. A lot of them being small, I was a perfect choice for them” she explained. I looked at Christie who gave a slight nod, telling me the story sounds true to her.
“So, how do you feel like piloting an experimental craft, with an AI?” I asked. “I don’t think I understand” Sam said as she looked at us in confusion. I smiled a bit as I pushed the chair out and stood up. “Follow me” I said as I turned and started to walk out of the door. Sam got up and followed me, followed by Christie. The Fennec seemed to be figuring out what I meant as I headed for the second deck where the hanger was located.
It took us minutes, but we reached the hanger as I stepped inside. “Sam meet Aluna the Birdplane” I said as I gestured to the Birdplane. Aluna turned and looked down at Sam and smiled a bit. “So, you my pilot? I hope you don’t mind if I have an AI to work with” Aluna said, part of her fearing that the Fennec would say no.
To her surprise, Sam climbed up and opened the door, peering into the cockpit. Pulling her head out, the Fennec took off her coat as she threw it to the ground and climbed in. I watched from the floor, as Sam crawled into the cockpit. I knew it was a tight fit, as I climbed in there before. But, looking at Sam, she would be the right size to fit in.
I followed as I climbed up, and peered into the cockpit. I saw Sam sit in the chair, pulling on the straps. “Nice fit in here” she said, as I nodded. She did look like she fitted well there. “So, your decision?” I asked. The screen on the front turning on, showing Aluna’s face as she looked at Sam. The Fennec thought and then nodded, “I will join.” I grinned as I pulled back out. “Welcome on-board then. If you want to come by later in the meeting room later” I said as I climbed back down. “Will do” Sam called as Christie and I headed out.
Hours passed as we got the last bit of supplies on Freya. Serra and Necerta took a walk out, with Necerta asking to just walk rather than take a portal. I sat in my room as I took a look at a shelf, and among the novels I have picked up to read during this trip, there was an old, dusty looking book. Getting up, I pulled the book out and looked at the cover. Rubbing the dust off, I saw the words Journal of Nexian Studies. I turned around and headed back to my bed to have a read of it.
Christie looked up from her workstation as Sam walked in. “Oh, hey Sam what can I do for you?” she asked. “Well, I just want to tell you something” she said. “Oh yeah?” the vixen taur asked. “The Nexians have been keeping a close eye on you, and sent me to remind you of the debt” Sam said. Christie stopped smiling as she looked serious. “Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten the debt, and I am working on it” she said. The Fennec nodded, but smiled. “See you soon for the info you have on Aluna” she said before she turned and walked out.
