So I won this guy in an auction yesterday and am so excited that I got him. He's a BOSS. Just look at him!
I plan on making this guy have Follow me eyes as well as hallowed out nostrils for smoke effects <3 He's also gonna have pose-able whiskers (If that's what those long things are called?) He'll be up for sale later on in the year! I'll probably work on him sparingly between commissions so keep an eye out, I have big plans for him <3

XD sorry lion dances* XD traditionally round the lunar new year hawaii has A LOT of lion dance events. and usually theres a few dragon dances as well. :3
Ala moana (our main mall) has a event where all the different clubs/schools that do lion dancing come to ala moana and perform. a lot of the lion dancing revolves around good luck for the new year, traditionally the stores would have the money at the top of their doors, but for ala moana they tone it down and usually just go into the store to the counter or they use a wooden pole and line XD. you can also give the lion money and he eats it (for good luck!) :) fire crackers are another way to scare away the bad and bring in a good new year though with the new ban on fireworks in hawaii its been devistating to the local cultures :(
Lion dancing actually has some story aspects but there are different acts/dances for different occasions including contests where they dance on poles up in the air like 15 ft. The colors on the lions have traditional roots and character meanings and theres two diff regional styles of lion dances, here we see a lot of southern. Its really awesome because the heads have LEDs and blinking eyes and moving ears and the tails usually are on springs. >w<
In college i did a lot of ethnomusicology and for some strange reason ive fallen in love with performing chinese and indonesian cultural music. =3 i also do/did martial arts but im biased for japanese karate while chinese lion dancing involves a lot chinese styles.
Here's some fun videos:
