You strike me as an exceptionally centered person who would understand that feeling as part of a continuum. While I have a tendency to the serious and experiential in art you must admit there is a role for honest sentimentality. I think the world of commercial art and advertising kind of destroyed it, but before all that there was Vermeer. Etc.

Well yeah, I wouldn't deny that Rococo was a thing, and it doesn't get happier than that. But in my own personal life, I value tragedy and the bittersweet as substantive, while happiness is more contained, less transformative.
We are in no shortage of good, happy fantasy work. Masterfully done catharsis, mourning, or sorrow, however, is rare. I resolve to do more of this rare and valuable thing with my time on earth! Happiness is valuable because we have low points to compare them to. Playing up that relationship is much more appealing to me than rendering happiness, alone.
My next submission is sad. You'll see. You'll all see.
