A startling experience.
Flare took a deep breath, they finally made it into Golden Rod itself. After a good stretch he turned to Max and decided it was time to say goodbye "Well Max...I hate to say it but I think Charmeleon and I will have to leave your party for now! We have five packages we need to deliver here before the sun sets. Do me a favor and try your best to make it into the Johto league because I want to have a battle with you."
Charmeleon looked up at his trainer, then at Max with a saddened expression. He was getting used to Max translating what he was saying but he knew that this had to happen. He pointed up at Bulbasaur who stared back at him. "Keep an eye on your trainer alright Bulbasaur? He might get a little crazy but hey...without us the humans would all go nuts!" He shared a laugh with the grass pokemon before he grabbed Flare's hand and walked off to do their deliveries.
Max took a deep breath, waving at the duo. "Don't you worry! You just get all the badges you need in between deliveries."
Fang stared at Max, then grabbed the human's hands in his paws just like Charmeleon did with Flare. "Alright! Let's go get your third badge! We have to figure out how your powers work and we can't do that while you're preoccupied thinking about your next battle!"
Max let out a startled yelp as he was pulled by Fang, a small laugh escaping him. "Hey you don't have to guide me you know...I'm old enough to walk around myself." He joked then gazed at Scav who was holding out a map. "Aww come on...we don't really need such a thing do we?"
"Actually we do. Goldenrod IS the largest city in Johto. If we're going to find the gym before nightfall then we'll follow the map. Unless you feel like just sitting at the pokemon center and waiting until morning." Scav pointed out clearly.
Max sweatdropped but he saw the dragon's point as he tucked in the tail sticking out of his pants with one hand he managed to wiggle free from Fang's paw. "Good point...Two badges in one day...that HAS to be a new record." He laughed, before tripping over himself when he didn't spot the broken piece of concrete on the ground, it was only thanks to Fang holding him in the first place that he didn't faceplant into the ground.
"That's ASSUMING you win when we get there...besides!" Fang let his statement linger a moment longer. "After your battle with Bugsy the only two pokemon that are even fit to battle are Pyre and Larvitar. Think you can win with just those two options?" He asked, taking a deep breath.
"Oh...you have a good point..." Max wiggled out of Fang's grip and took out the pokeball that housed furret and plucked Bulbasaur from his head, the little grass type looked absolutely exhausted, yet he remained wide awake and kind of irritated that he was plucked off his trainers head so unexpectedly. "Hmm...yeah I'm certain. Pyre won't battle due to him having waay more experience. It wouldn't be fair! But I'm sure Larvitar will be up to the challenge. If not then...well we'll have plenty of training to do tomorrow when they're all rested up!"
Scav simply shook his head, taking Bulbasaur from Max, same with the pokeball housing Furret. "I'll take these guys to the pokemon center so they can get their rest. I'll leave the map with Fang so you two don't get lost...here..." Scav handed the map over to Fang, leaving a dumbfounded Max.
"Hold it...how will YOU find your way around without a map?" Max inquired, kind of lost on the whole aspect.
Scav shrugged, grinning as he cradled Bulbasaur in his arms. "My line of work usually has me running all over the region...I've been here once or twice so I at least know where the big red building with a pokeball is!"
With that Scavenger walked away from the group, Bulbasaur yawning in the dragon's arms. unknowingly, he passed by a Beelzemon who was strolling through the city. "Hmmm Max should be in this city any day now...jeez...it's not like I'd know with how large this city is." He growled to himself.
Scavenger heard the sudden growl and turned to face the digimon, shocked. "Uhm...hey did I hear you mention the name Max? How do you know him?"
Turning toward the dragon, the Beelzemon crossed his arms. "If we're talking about Max SMITHY then I've known him since he was born. We grew up on the same island. I have to deliver something to him curtisy of his uncle."
"Hmmm...while I don't know you personally...your soul rings true in what you say." Before the Beelzemon could ask him what he meant he held up a hand. "I can read a person's soul...based on what they say I can tell if their soul is being truthful or not. and you seem to be genuine so..." He gave the digimon the directions he would need to get to the gym, he even drew the guy a diagram from where they were standing now to where he'd need to go. "If you're lucky you should be able to reach them before he finishes his buisness there!"
"Thanks...The names Bang by the way. Maybe we'll see each other again? You take care dragon!" He gave a small wave, looking over the Diagram the dragon wrote for him and started following the directions written down.
Max took a deep breath, Both he and Fang finally reached their destination, the Goldenrod city Gym after following the directions on the map. At this point the tail that he had formed when he awkwardly fell on the Charizard's flame awhile back finally receeded. It made him feel a little more comfortable now that he'd stop getting odd looks about a bulge in the back of his pants. "Alrighty...This will definitely be a challenge...a Gym leader that battles with who knows how many pokemon and doing it with just one...I hope I don't come off as cocky..."
Fang poked Max's nose, just like the trainer had done to him so many times before. "Nah...I'm sure if you explain the situation to the gym leader he or she will understand!"
"I certainly hope so..." Max sweatdropped but kept moving forward, eventually he found his way into the gym's battlefield, he could see several female trainers battling it out with each other, as well as one bright pink haired trainer standing out in the back alongside her miltank, grooming it. "Oh! There's our Gym leader" Max pointed out and started walking towards her.
"It's rude to point..." Fang chided, staring at the Miltank and trainer, he shyly hid behind Max.
"Oh...looks like we have a new challenger! You can call me Whitney." Whitney held her hand out towards Max to shake it. "Being such a bustling city you can imagine I get plenty of challengers for my gym so I can't exactly offer you the same standard gym rules right now...would a one on one work out for you? My clefairy is at the center." She admitted, sticking her tongue out playfully.
Max couldn't believe his luck, he simply nodded and smiled as he called out his Larvitar, who same as always looked ready for battle, smacking his paws together. "That's not a problem Whitney...Thing is I was just about to request a one on one battle. The rest of my pokemon are still recovering from azelea town's gym leader and Larvitar's the only one battle ready."
She stared down at the Larvitar, trying to impress them and giggled. "Well...I hope he gives Miltank and I a good battle. Even if it is just one on one I won't pull any punches okay?" She ran towards the opposite end of the arena with her miltank. "If anything I'll battle ya twice as hard as I do with other challengers!"
Watching her run off, it dawned on Max that she couldn't have been that much older than himself, he turned to look at Fang who started blushing. "Oooh, got a crush on her?" Max teased Fang and laughed as Fang started walking off to the bleachers. "Aww you don't need to be that way bud!" He snickered, Larvitar just rolled his eyes as he got himself set on the battlefield.
"I'll never understand humans..." Larvitar muttered to himself, and kept his eyes locked on Miltanks. "Though thankfully I don't have to."
A ref walked over, though really she was just a teenage girl holding on a pair of flags in each of her hands. "Alrighty! This will be a rare one on one gym battle between Whitney the gym leader AND!"
Max was slightly confused when he heard the ref stop then suddenly realized he had forgotten to introduce himself. "OH! It's Max..." He blushed, embaressed by his own slip up.
The ref nodded, giggling as she held her hands up. "Whitney the gym leader against Max the challenger! You may both fight when ready!" She held her hands forward before backing up.
"Well you heard the lovely lady! Miltank let's move in and stomp that little Larvitar!" Whitney commanded.
The Miltank giving a small moo before charging forward to stomp at Larvitar, lifting it's leg up toward the smaller pokemon she gave him a good thrashing. Lucky for Larvitar however, the attack did very little damage being a rock type. "Normal moves don't worry the way you want them to against Rock types!" Max commented before grinning. "Alright Larvitar, you know the drill! Let's use a rock slide!"
Hearing the attack called out, Larvitar got set up to attack the Miltank with his signature attack, however just as he was preparing to strike he just realized this battlefield had no such stones for him to execute his attack! "Ack! Max that's not gonna work here! This arena is clear of obstacles like stones!"
Max didn't like the sound of that, it meant that their usual method of victory wouldn't work here. Whitney however just snapped her fingers and gave Max a wink. "Of course not. I'm a normal type gym leader so I like to keep my field as plain as possible. Sorry if that makes this a handicap for ya! but thanks for reminding me that your Larvitar is a rock type. So then! Miltank let's try out the new attack we've been working on and use Brick break!"
Max and Larvitar both cringed when they heard that, Miltank closed in pretty quick around the smaller pokemon and have him a swift chop just below his neck, the rock type went down pretty quickly, squirming to pull himself back up.
"Now that was a pretty smart tactic...Keeping out wood, stones or any sort of battle material out of the battle field makes this battle purely about what the pokemon is capable on the inside." Fang mumbled to himself, watching the battlefield from a bystanders perspective, tail twitching as he did so, not even realizing the Blackguilmon that was hiding just under the bleachers he was sitting in, licking it's lips in anticipation to strike.
"Comeon Larvitar you can pull yourself together and win this battle. So what if we can't use our usual methods of attack. We'll still win!" Max growled a bit, his eyes changing from the usual blue that they were to that of the verticaly slanted yellow eyes of a Guilmon. "Let's do this, Dark pulse!"
{Hmmmm...what is this intensity I'm feeling...} Larvitar thought to himself, he could sense something was stirring inside of his trainer, it was waiting to come out but it wasn't rage that he sensed within Max however. He couldn't quite put his finger on it but whatever it is, managed to get him to pull himself back up feeling rejuvinated even after the deadly attack towards him. "I hear you!" He cried out to Max, giving him a nod of approval and as such started pulling his hands together infront of him, gathering a mass of dark energy that soon formed itself into a physical ball in his paws, as he held onto it, it grew in density until finally the small rock pokemon could no longer contain it and he fired it at the Miltank. "TAKE THIS!"
Before the MIltank could make a counter move, the massive ball of energy slammed right into the bovine, It let out a shriek as it was knocked onto it's back, the black mass of energy dissapated as it did. "Miltank! Are you okay?" Whitney called out, concerned but relieved as Miltank pulled itself back up, albiet slowly. "That's one tough Larvitar...But then again the Trainer isn't exactly normal either! Ok Miltank let's finish this quickly."
Max watched the Miltank get back up and smiled. "Excellent work Larvitar! But our work isn't quite done ye-" He cut himself off when he spotted Larvitar glowing right in the middle of the battlefield. Thanks to the vision he had with his guilmon like eyes he could make out what was going on amid the light as Larvitar started growing in mass. Becoming much rounder and growing spiked edges around the ends of his new shell, as his arms and legs receeded into the body and were replaced by a silvery shining shell with only two small stubs near the end of the shell and his eyes poking out between the two holes within the protective casing. Once the light had receeded, Max could finally make out the form of a newly evolved Pupitar.
Everybody stared in awe of the new evolution that had occured right infront of them. Even Chaos, who was hiding under the bleachers seemed dumbfounded that such a thing would happen in such a critical moment of the battle.
"Max, I don't know what changed you so suddenly...but whatever it was spurred me on when I had no energy left to battle." Pupitar called out, just hovering in the air to face his opponant. "I won't dissapoint you."
Max took a couple minutes to register the words spoken to him, his eyes changing back to their original appearance. "You could never dissapoint me Pupitar. Now let's finish this battle so we can go show our new badge to the rest of the team. Dark pulse let's go!" Max called out, pointing his finger on towards Miltank.
"YOU GOT IT!" Pupitar growled out, charging up another blast of dark energy towards Miltank who at the same time was preparing for a rollout attack. The two attacks collided in a matter of seconds, appearing to be of equal size and power as shockwaves rippled through the gym, shaking up both Max and Whitney's hair a bit as the tug of war went on. Eventually, the dark matter managed to overcome the swift rolling bovine and knocked Miltank clear into the stadiums walls, the large pokemon fainting there after.
Everyone continued to stare at the arena for a bit longer. Shaking her head, the ref stepped back into the battlefield and raised her hands in the air. "Miltank is unable to battle! The victory goes to Max and his newly evolved Pupitar!"
Max took a deep breath, running over to Pupitar and giving him a large hug around his new frame. Though he was kind of shocked when he started hovering in the air with his new companion. "That was amazing! I never expected you to keep going after that brick break. Just shows what I know huh?"
Pupitar's eyes locked with Max's, showing suprisingly kind eyes. "No Max, You know alot more than you think. It was only because of the changes in your own spirit that the change could occur in mine. You helped me evolve, and you gave me the strength to pick myself up." He nuzzled Max and started carrying him over to Whitney and the fallen Miltank. "Can you express my apologies for me Max?"
As Pupitar gently lowered himself to the ground so Max could get off, he gave him a pat just between the eyes and smiled. "Of course I will. You just rest alright?" He took out Pupitar's pokeball and called him back into it, then walked over to check up on Miltank. "Is she...okay? Pupitar wanted to apologize...he didn't mean to knock her so bad..."
Whitney took a deep breath when Miltank opened it's eyes, giving Whitney a small lick on her cheek before laying back down to rest. "Don't worry. She's fine, just needs a good long rest. It's a gym leaders job to test a trainer's battling style and make him better. I think Miltank and I did that just now but it's still dissapointing that we lost..." Whitney sighed dissapointingly and called her Miltank into it's ball. "You did win though! So with that..." She got back up and grabbed Max's hands into her own, grinning. "Congrats on beating us! In recongnition of your victory you earned yourself the Plain badge!" She took out a badge from her pocket and placed it in Max's palm. "You earned it!"
The whole time, Max couldn't help but blush when was grabbed, then when he spotted the badge placed in his hand he took the time to set it in the badge case that housed his other two badges. "I'm honored Whitney! I'll do you proud in the pokemon league and I'll make sure Pupitar gets much stronger!"
Fang was just about to walk after Max to congradulate him, but his eyes went wide as he was pulled under the bleachers by a black clawed hand. "Ack hey!" He cried out as he slipped down behind the seats, his eyes going wide when he spotted the blackguilmon standing before him.
Chaos shut the wolf's mouth with tape and licked his lips. "You shoulda stuck close to Maxie. You wouldn't be such easy prey that way...Now don't worry...I won't chew." He said menacingly and opened his jaws nice and wide. Giving Fang a grand view of the internal view of his mouth, saliva dripping from the upper lip down to the bottom as he shoved the poor wolf's head into his hungry jaws. The poor guy didn't taste all that bad to him, his salivating tongue slapping all over his tasty face before he swallowed it down.
Fang however was absolutely terrified, he wanted to scream but the tape over his mouth prevented any of that, all he could do was kick against this horrible predator. It's breath definitely wasn't the cleanest, and the drool sticking to his fur was absolutely awful! His head squeezed down that warm tube that was the Blackguilmon's throat, it gave him the chills realizing that he was about to become some other creatures dinner, saliva clinging to him as he wiggled and tried to worm his way out.
"Mmmm what a disagreeable meal you're being..." Chaos grumbled, but he didn't care. He was loving Fang's taste as he worked his shoulders and chest into the warm, moist cavern of his maw. It didn't take him much longer though, He spent the good amount of ten minutes devouring his meal, after which he had quite the bulging gut. "Ugh...You know what...You were a good first meal...But don't worry in a few hours any fears you have won't matter. You'll be a part of me and you'll be helping bring Max into my flesh as well." He chuckled a bit evilly, hefting himself up and sneaking out of the Gym. He let out a huge belch once he was clear of the building and patted his stomach, groaning as it already started to gurgle around his meal.
Fang whimpered inside of Chaos, he was tightly cramped in the digimon's stomach and the heat was nearly unbearable as the stomach started churning around him. At this point he knew he had very little hope of escape and could only hope that the digimon would have mercy on him.
Max couldn't believe his luck, he had finally managed to get his third badge and was walking aorund to search for Fang. "Hey...You didn't run away did you bud...I was just joking about the liking Whitney comment..." He looked to his right outside of the gym and saw the blackguilmon. When he noticed the wolf sized bulge inside of him his eyes went wide. "Hey! Come back here and gimme back my friend!"
Chaos's eyes went wide, he couldn't believe that Max had spotted him so quickly and turned to face him. Eyes softening. "Max...I was hoping you wouldn't spot me just yet...Please just forget about me for now." His mouth started lighting up and he blew a pyro sphere in Max's direction, Taking off as soon as Max ducked to avoid his attack.
"Wait!" Max ducked low when the fireball came at him. His eyes going wide when he lost sight of the guilmon and started running down the road. "FANG! FAAAAANG!" He cried out, shouting for his friend. He checked every alley that was in the area. Tears starting to come to his eyes when he realized he lost his best friend. "Fang..."
As Max kept running, searching for the Blackguilmon that had snatched away his best friend he bumped right into Bang, the Beelzemon grabbing Max's shoulders with his eyes wide. "Max! What's wrong...Why are you so worked up?"
When the boy realized that Bang had been the one to stop him he started crying uncontrollably and wrapped his arms around Bang's abdomen, sniffling. "I...I...I lost my best friend...A blackguilmon ate him...and I lost him when he fired at me!"
Bang held Max close, taking a deep breath. "Max...It's not over alright?" He wiggled out of Max's death grip and crouched to meet him eye to eye. "I'll help you find him alright? If it's a Blackguilmon I know exactly what to look for." He lead Max over to his bike and helped him on. "If we can find the Blackguilmon...We can save your friend even if he's been digested. All we have to do is make a meal out of HIM and reform him and Fang."
Max gave a small nod, sniffling as he held onto Bang from behind as he started up the motorcycle. He wanted to find his friend, and he'd do anything necessary to do it. "Wait for us Fang...we're gonna get you back..." He sniffled out, taking a deep breath as they drove off through the streets.
