this is a very frustrating peice for mr and these are the only riffs i have worked out so far, not much but its a start eh?
its such a pain in the ass when you cant read sheet music, or play by ear. :(
and all them damn talented asians do it just for laughs.
for instance look up "mario piano" on youtube.
im not really a big styx fan and all, and im sort of sick of this song, (the main part) cause they play it in so many damn commercials, but i think the intro is awesome! (remind me to finish songs i start)

I really sort of improvised for a second there, that makes me uncomfortable. but your right, i am bad about going off tempo, i need to get a metronome or something, but i only really know the very beginning and that little decending riff on the g chord at the end thats really all i know of it for now.
see i cant do things by ear, :( but i am good at picking out the timing by listening by ear,
i learn by using my eyes.
i will use an application that shows a virtual keyboard and stare at that keyboard while i run a midi file into it, this lets me memorize what keys to hit,
listening to the song lets me know when and how hard to hit the keys,
a little of that and some self expression (and a little faking it ) is what i try and do,
i know its a little silly to copy what i see on screen like this but slowly its teachign me chord after chord, and im beginning to be able to recognise these and adlib some of the time, i have already up with a few original riffs but im still learning,
my first keyboard was a fisher-price toy piano that had no sharps or flats XD
then i got one of those old fan powered "chord organs" and it came with a book and you could play it by numbers. then dad got me this yamaha psr-6, i have always been around keyboards, so i figured id learn how to play them some day,
when i first listened to pink floyds dark side of the moon album and it got to "the great gig in the sky" i knew instantly i had to learn that, and it only took me 3 days to learn the entire intro (chordwise) then it took me a month to get busy and learn the rest, and i even learned to play the bass part on my bass guitar, but i would gladly remove my left nut if i knew it would give me the power to play by ear,
so if you truely can play by ear, you are a blessed person and i envy you.
keyboard sounds im most fond of are piano, minimoog, and the sound of the hammond organ (i would give my left nut just to get a chance to own a Hammond)

i enjoy robot chicken, mythbusters, and most shocking/most daring
but i watch NOTHING on a regular basis, and then only if im not able to get to my pc.
ive never heard of Heros but what i hate most about tv anymore is
home makeover/american idol/wife swap/americas got talent
dancing with the stars/are you smarter then a 5th grader ect.
and all that other shit they show on fox. i hate all the boo-hoo drama and
the way they manipulate peoples lives.
but none of this really has anything to do with Styx
