Happy Tails School
by Born2beagator
Molly had a problem. Her son Miles was an absolute terror. He was the most disobedient 16 year old child imaginable. Whenever Molly saw a dog being walked down the street in perfect obedience, she longed for that kind of behavior for her son.
One day she noticed a special ad in the paper. “Happy Tails Obedience School: We’ll make any disobedient hard-case a loyal member of your family.” Molly was at her wits’ end. She had to try something. She called the school. “Hello is this Happy Tails?” she asked. “Yes this is Sarah, the trainer.” Came the reply. “I saw your ad. You say that you can make ANY disobedient hard-case into a loyal member of the family. Does any apply to 16 year old boys?” She asked hopefully, expecting a no. “Of course.” Came the reply. “However I must warn you that this is mostly a school for dogs. The canine influence tends to have a profound effect on humans. But yes, they will be obedient.” Molly was hooked. She needed any solution. “Wonderful. When does it start?” She asked. “Tomorrow.” Came the reply. “For the full effect, there is some training required at home. Feed your son dog food in the morning before he comes.” *click* Well that was strange. But Molly decided to go through with it.
In the morning Miles walked downstairs for breakfast. “I’m hungry.” He snapped. “Give me something good.” Molly smiled and poured him a bowl of what was clearly dog food. Miles looked at the dog food with confusion on his face. "What is this?" he asked. "Its your favorite! It’s full of beef and bacon." Molly replied. As miles listened to what was in the food, he began to drool a bit. It did sound wonderful! Slowly, Miles spooned a bit of the food into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. It was the best thing he'd ever tasted! Soon after Miles had eaten the whole bowl. "Thank you mom! This is great!" he cried. "I'm glad you liked it, now go get ready." she replied. "Ready for what?" Miles asked. "What do you think? School hun." Molly replied. "Oh, of course." said Miles. With that he returned to his bedroom and threw his shoes on. "Ready?" called Molly? "Yeah mom, coming." replied Miles. With that they got in the car and headed to school.
Finally they arrived. Miles looked at the school. It read "Happy Tails School." "What is this mom?" Miles asked with confusion. "Oh it’s a treat for you." she replied. "I figured you deserved a break, so you are going to go to a different school today and learn some fun things!" "Really? Thanks mom!" Miles exclaimed. "You go on now, I'll be back to pick you up later. I've got some errands to run." said Molly. As Molly left, she watched Miles slowly walk towards the school, his behind waving slowly back and forth. She smiled. She'd soon have an obedient son.
As Miles entered, he froze. What was this? This school was full of dogs! What he assumed was the trainer noticed him and called, "Welcome Miles, my name is Sarah. We've been waiting for you! Are you ready to learn?" "Learn? This is a school for dogs!" Miles replied. "Of course it is." said Sarah. "You are going to help us out today." Miles thought. His mom did say he'd be learning some fun things today, this must have been what she meant. "Oh, well I've always loved dogs." said miles. "Great." Sarah replied. "Let’s head to our training room." With that they headed through the back door into a big gym full of what one would expect from a dog training school.
"Okay, the first thing we are going to learn today is sit." said Sarah. Miles took a moment to think about this. "What do you want me to do?" he asked. "Oh, I thought it was obvious. You are going to be a model for the dogs today. You simply need to follow my instructions." replied Sarah. "Now Miles, can you come here and demonstrate sit for us?" "Okay..." replied Miles. This was kind of strange, but he went with it. Better than school anyways. Miles walked up to Sarah and turned towards the dogs. "Sit Miles." said Sarah. Miles sat like a dog as best he could, with his butt flat on the ground and his hands on the floor in front of him. With how long his legs were, it was really uncomfortable. "Okay, hold that position." As miles held, he noticed all the dogs were watching him intently. Slowly, each of them followed suite and sat. Miles smiled, he was glad he was helping these dogs learn, this wasn't so bad after all. Suddenly he took notice of one of the dogs, a beautiful golden retriever. "Sarah," Miles asked. "What is that dog's name?" "Oh that's Annie." Sarah replied. "She is a stray we've taken in." Miles hoped that he'd be able to sit with Annie when he returned, she was a beautiful animal. Following the direction of Miles’ stare, Sarah asked, "Miles would you like to sit next to Annie for the rest of the class?" Miles was elated and began to shake his behind on the floor. "Can I? That'd be great!" Miles exclaimed. He went to take his place next to Annie, sitting in the same position he had modeled, it felt like the right way to sit.
"Okay next we work on come." Sarah said. "Miles you are going to demonstrate for us again. Come." Fully into his role as the trainer's helper now, Miles got up and began to walk towards Sarah. He heard a bark behind him, looking back he saw his favorite dog and blushed. He hope he wouldn't embarrass himself in front of her. Miles arrived at Sarah, finally coming to the sitting position he had modeled earlier. "Like this?" he asked hopefully. "Almost, we'll get it down." said Sarah.
"Miles you look hot. Are you alright?" "I'm really hot for some reason, and I'm not sweating today." Miles replied. Sarah smiled. "Then Miles, I think it’s time we showed you something. Annie come here and show Miles how to cool down." Miles watched his favorite dog intently as she walked up to Miles and sat in front of him. She began panting, her long tongue hanging out of her mouth. "See Miles?" said Sarah. "This keeps Annie cool. Now you try, maybe it will help." Miles stuck his tongue out and began to pant. "It’s not working." he said to Sarah. "Just try it for a little longer." Sarah encouraged. Miles kept panting. As he did, his tongue began to change, it flattened and lengthened. Finally it began to work, his tongue going up and down, reaching all the way to his chin. "Shhllthannks Sarah that worked." Miles said around his suddenly bigger tongue. "Good job Miles. Just remember that whenever you get too warm." Sarah replied. "Oh my looks like our time is up. Miles I believe your mom should be outside waiting for you. We'll see everyone tomorrow." Sarah said. As Miles walked out Sarah called to him, "Miles you were a very good boy today." "Thanks so much Sarah!" said Miles, it made him feel good to receive praise. As Miles left, he looked back at Annie, she gave a bark at him that caused his ears to twitch a bit. He hoped he'd see her again.
Molly watched her son as he walked to the car, hopefully this first session changed his attitude. "Hi mom, thanks so much for taking me to this school today!" cried Miles. It must have, Molly smiled to herself. "Miles what did you learn today." asked Molly. "Oh it wasn't for me, this is a school for dogs and I was helping to train the dogs. But I did learn a useful trick for keeping myself cool. Watch!" with that Miles flopped his long, flat tongue out and began to pant. Pulling his tongue back in with some effort, Miles continued. "I also met this beautiful golden retriever named Annie. She is the one that showed me how to cool off. I hope I get to see her again." Molly smiled. "I'm glad you enjoyed it. So do you want to keep going to this school instead of your old one? The best part is, when this school is done, we’ll be a happy family again, not to mention it sounds like you’ve gained a new friend. Miles could barely contain his excitement. "Of course!" Miles exclaimed.
Miles could barely contain his excitement at the news that he was going to continue school at Happy Tails. Molly stole a glance at him every now and then in the passenger seat. Ever since she told him he could keep going, Miles had been wagging his butt back and forth in his seat. With another glance, she discovered he had stopped wagging his butt and was shifting around in his seat. "Are you okay Miles?" she asked. "Yeah. I just feel like I'm sitting on something." he replied. With that they pulled into the driveway. "Let me see." said Molly. Miles turned around and Molly noticed a lump in his pants just about his behind. "Miles pull your pants down just a bit." said Molly. Miles complied, and Molly saw a one inch lump on his skin with thick blonde hair covering it. It seemed to be wiggling slightly under his skin. This stopped Molly cold. The long tongue, the hairy bump on his behind…Sarah did say that the canine influence of the school would have a profound effect on a human. But if this was the cost for a happy family, so be it. "You are fine Miles. We just need to get you into some looser pants." she said. Miles followed her advice and put some gym shorts on, this helped a lot.
After finding a comfortable pair of shorts, Miles returned downstairs. Molly had put some macaroni and cheese on the table for him. Miles heart sank. He didn't want mac and cheese! "Mom don't you have anything else?" he pleaded. "Like what?" she asked. "Remember that food you gave me this morning? I can't remember what the name was, but it was wonderful. Can I have some of that?" he held his hands in front of him, wrists down, and said in his most pleading voice. "Please?" "Of course you can!" Molly replied. She poured Miles a bowl of the dog food she had fed him that morning.
Miles didn't hesitate this time. He didn't want to go through the trouble of spooning the delicious food up. So he did what suddenly came very natural to him. He put his face in the bowl and started eating. His longer tongue helped immensely with getting as much food as possible in his mouth. Molly watched her son as he ate, paying particular attention to the lump in the back of his gym shorts. Yes it was clearly wiggling a bit. As Miles ate, she filled up a bowl of water and brought it to the table. "Rrrrrannks." Miles replied around his food. Molly smiled. Sarah was right. It seemed that acting like a dog at school was having a profound effect on Miles. As she thought this, he moved to the water and began to lap it up. Soon after he was finished. *Pant, Pant, Pant* "Thank you so much for the food mom!" With that Miles excused himself from the table and headed upstairs to get ready for bed. As he entered his room and shut the door, he thought back of the day's events. While a bit strange, he had to admit he'd never had so much fun. He was looking forward to school tomorrow...and seeing Annie again.
While Miles couldn't remember having more fun in his life yesterday, the dream he had that night nearly eclipsed it. In his dream he was a golden retriever, and his mom had adopted Annie. They spent all their time together just having fun and doing what came by instinct. Back in his bed, Miles' behind was wagging furiously, and the hairy bump seemed to extend half an inch more. Finally his alarm went off and he woke up. Groggily he thought of what he had to do today. Then a single thought came to mind. "Happy Tails!" Miles exclaimed aloud. He rushed to get ready, not bothering to look for a pair of loose shorts and throwing on his regular clothes consisting of jeans and a t shirt and then rushing downstairs. "I'm ready!" he cried to Molly. "Someone is eager." she laughed. "Let's go." As he sat in the car Miles gave a yelp of pain. "What is it honey?" Molly asked. "I sat on something again!" Miles exclaimed. "I'm sure you'll be fine. Maybe try sitting to the side a little bit?" she suggested. This seemed to help Miles. As he sat sideways he hung his head out the window. He opened his mouth to catch the air and let his tongue fly out of his mouth. He enjoyed this immensely on the way to school.
Miles could hardly contain his excitement as they pulled up to the school. "Bye mom!" He yelled as he ran inside. As he entered he took a moment to breathe in the smell of all the dogs, and especially Annie. They smelled so good. The smell seemed to have an effect on him, a little spot of black appeared on the tip of his nose, moistening. As he stood there sniffing, he noticed a problem. His jeans were painfully tight in his behind. It felt like something was pushing against the back of his pants. Resolving to tough it out for the sake of more fun today, he tried to ignore it. Sarah watched him with a smile. She could see the back of his jeans visibly tented about an inch. Sarah called to him "Hey look who is back everyone. It’s Miles!" All the dogs barked in greeting to miles. Miles felt the strangest urge that he should bark back, but instead he said "Hi everyone! I can't wait to have more fun today!" At this Annie ran up to him and put her paws on his chest giving him a lick. "Hahaha, I'm happy to see you too girl!" Miles said. As she continued to lick his face, Miles enjoyed it more and more, until finally he returned her affection by giving her a lick with his long tongue. Annie returned to Sarah as Miles panted. "Good boy Miles! You remembered how to stay cool!" Sarah exclaimed. At this praise Miles felt his jeans get even tighter, and he felt something hairy brushing against his behind, but there was no way he was going to go home and change clothes at the risk of missing today. "Let's get started." Said Sarah. Miles walked over to Annie. He didn't want to be away from her.
"Today is a special day Miles. Since you seem to enjoy it here so much, we are going to give you a collar to commemorate your time with us." Said Sarah. Miles felt his excitement building. "But first you need to earn it. Let’s start with come. You did it yesterday but it wasn't quite right. Annie is going to demonstrate for you, then you mimic her. Annie, come." Annie walked to Sarah and sat. Miles thought. What did Annie do differently? Then he got it! She walked on all fours. Miles got on his hands and knees and crawled to Sarah sitting in the position he remembered from yesterday. "Good boy!" She praised. She then pulled out a leather collar with a tag that said "Miles" on it. Miles tried to concentrate on Sarah and the collar, but the pain in his jeans was nearly unbearable. He gave a whimper. "What's wrong boy?" Sarah asked. "It hurts!" Miles cried. Miles felt the pressure in his jeans intensify again.
The pain in his jeans was getting ready to make him pass out until finally....*RIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPP* they split around the now six inch long tent in his jeans, releasing a golden furred tail that began wagging furiously. "Better boy?" Sarah asked. "Much better!" Miles panted happily, not even thinking about the fact that his pants just ripped. He was just glad to be rid of the pain. "Okay, now that you feel better, here is your reward!" Sarah gave him the collar. Miles immediately put it on, never happier in his life as his tail extended another inch in its frenzied wagging.
"Now, fetch is what we are working on today." as Sarah held up a stick. Miles couldn't contain himself. "Stick! baStick! Stiaark! Bark! Stick!!!!" Miles exclaimed. Annie barked happily at him, and without thinking Miles barked back. He loved that retriever so much.
"Ready Miles?" Sarah asked. "Ready!" Miles cried. "Wait a minute, is that how we speak?" Sarah chided. Miles thought. What did he do wrong? He gave a questioning look at Annie and she barked at him. That was it! He looked at Sarah and gave his best bark. "Good boy Miles!" and Sarah threw the stick. Miles didn't hold back, he rushed after the stick as best he could on all fours, Annie barking encouragement. As he ran, his back legs shortened until finally he was running comfortably on all fours. The stick bounced around the corner and Miles tore after it. When he emerged from behind the corner Sarah saw that his back legs were now nearly identical in structure to Annie's and she saw golden hair beginning to poke out above his socks. As he ran back to Sarah, his feet came out of his shoes and socks, revealing paws. He skidded to a stop at Sarah's feet and yelled "STICAARRRKK" "Well done Miles” Sarah said, patting his head. With the petting, his tail extended to its full one foot length and wagged excitedly. Miles was glad now that his jeans had ripped to free his tail. He loved the feeling of it rubbing against the torn fabric of his jeans. How did he ever live without his tail? Although his legs were getting awfully itchy...
Sarah broke him from his thoughts with a pat that caused his hair to turn blonde. "Okay boys and girls, that was a good session, we'll see you tomorrow. Miles, you did great today. I hope you'll continue to stay with us! Oh, and practice walking correctly at home!" "Of coarkse! I donark know whark I everrrrr walked on twark legs! Iark wouldn't thinark of barleaving" Miles cried. "Seeark you tomorrow RrrAnnie!" Annie barked at him happily, causing his ears to twitch again. He loved that sound. "Rrrrsarah? Do yourrr thinark I could have a rrrrrr smell of RrrAnnie? Just to rrrrremeberrrr herrrr?" "Of course!" Sarah replied. With joy, Miles trotted over to Annie, being sure to walk as best as he could on all fours. He drank in her scent. This caused the black spot that had appeared on his nose at the start of class to explode. It quickly overtook his nose and his face pushed out a little bit. "Bark! I'll bark you tomorrark bark!
Miles saw his mom waiting in the car for him. Molly couldn't believe it. Sarah wasn’t kidding when she said this school had a strong canine influence. Miles was taking to his new personality completely. Out he came, trotting on all fours, a full length tail wagging behind him. She noticed that his back legs were completely transformed, with paws instead of feet, and there was golden fur disappearing up his pant leg. The changes weren't limited to his back though. His nose had pushed forward a bit and was clearly a dog's nose. She opened the door and he hopped in, panting happily. "RrrrHi mom!" he growled. "Hi hun! I see you learned a lot today at school, did you enjoy it!" She asked. Instead of responding, he gave a happy WOOF. Molly smiled. She could get used to this.
Miles sat deep in thought on the way home. He'd learned so much at school. He now knew exactly how to sit without crushing his wonderful tail...and the smell of Annie! It was amazing. He was also glad to be shown a better way of running. He resolved to walk like this from now on. And what about speaking? Words required so much thought! Miles remembered the times where he had been able to convey his meaning with a single noise and hoped he'd be able to do that more often. He panted happily.
As they pulled into the driveway, Miles noticed Sarah's car in the driveway. "Rarah!" he said happily, tail wagging. "I wonder what she is doing here?" said Molly. As they approached the door, Miles' picked up a wonderful scent. "Rrrrr is that....?" he growled. He heard a bark from inside that made his ears jump....only this time they seemed to jump off his head. They stretched and then flopped over on either side of his head. "RRANNIE!" he cried excitedly. Molly opened the door and Miles tore into the house towards the sound. Molly followed the sound of the barking and found Miles rubbing against Annie in the living room with Sarah smiling at them. Molly noticed that Miles now had paws instead of hands, and golden fur covered them and disappeared into his sleeves. "Molly, how are you? Miles has been such a good boy at school. I noticed that he had a particular interested in Annie, so I figured I'd bring her over." Sarah said. "And....well Annie is a stray. Would you be willing to give her a good home?" At this Miles completely forget speaking and began barking excitedly. Annie joined him. "Miles seems to really like Annie." Molly said. I'd hate to see them separated. Sure I'll take her." Miles gave Annie a loving lick. "Then that's settled, I know they’ll love each other." Sarah left
Miles couldn't believe his luck! The girl of his dreams was going to stay with them forever! He panted contentedly. Then he noticed how very itchy he was under his clothes. Annie gave a quick bark and pulled at his shirt sleeve just above his forepaw. Miles looked at her in a questioning manner. He was about to say something when he realized that it would be so much more simple to bark his question to her. "What is the matter?" He barked to Annie. This time she came around behind him and tried to grab the rip in his jeans where his tail extended. "What is this stuff?" Miles' floppy ears perked up. That came from Annie! He could understand her bark! She obviously couldn't understand him when he spoke to her....so Miles resolved then and there to resort to barking for all his communication. "You are looking much better than when I first met you Miles." Annie barked to him. "But what do you have covering you?" "It's my clothes. They help keep me warm." Miles barked back. "That is silly." She barked. With that Annie nosed at his forepaw. "What is wrong with my paw?" Miles barked. This time Annie licked the golden fur that disappeared into his sleeve. "What do you think fur is for silly? Why would you wear something over your fur?" Annie barked quizzically. This made a lot of sense to Miles. The fur on his hands and feet felt so warm, and he felt so itchy under his clothes. Why indeed was he wearing clothes over his fur? Miles gave a barking laugh. "Of course you are right Annie. But how am I going to get out of them?"
"Let me help you." Annie barked. "How? We don't have hands?" Miles barked questioningly. "We have our teeth." Annie replied. Of course, thought Miles. "I can't reach my back, I can feel where my tail has ripped my jeans though, maybe you can help there?" Annie returned to his back and grabbed the rip at the base of his tail and pulled. Miles braced himself on his forepaws....*RIIIIPPPPP! Annie tore the jeans and underwear away revealing that his back half was identical to Annie's. His tail wagged furiously. "I should be able to handle my shirt." barked Miles. With that he hunched down and used his forepaws to wiggle out of the shirt. Annie stepped back and examined him. As they had been working to relieve him of his clothes, Miles hand shrank considerably, chest barreling out. As far as she could tell, he looked just like her. She watched as the golden fur thickened to match hers and grew over his face. "Thank you so much! No wonder I was itching so much." He barked. "Your face is still strange. Here maybe I can help with that too." She growled to him. With that she began to lick his face. As she licked Miles whined in content as he felt her tongue pulling his face out into a proper muzzle. "There!" She barked happily. You are perfect now! Miles began barking excitedly. Molly rushed into the living room to find two golden retrievers. "Miles! I'm so glad you met Annie, you two are perfect for each other." With that, the two dogs laid down to take a nap.

Thanks, I enjoyed writing it. I tried not to focus too too much on the tail as I feel to many writers give it too much attention at the expense of the actual story. I didn't' want it to just become a story describing a tail growing. It was a whole dog tf after all, and what I really wanted to focus on was the mental change as I feel there is not enough exploration of the instinctual changes.
tbh I didn't think about this one that much. :P I wrote it as an interactive story in writing.com and edited it into story form. Due to the nature of interactive stories, it tended to be a little disjointed. Feline Fancy was also an interactive. But yeah, given how I described the place, I see how one could think that.
However I like to think of Annie as a born dog showing Miles the ropes...and no, most if not all of my transformations are permanent. I feel it diminishes the mental change if they suddenly remember their human life. Most of my stories will focus on the slow seeping in of animal thoughts and habits, and most of the time the subject will not panic. They may struggle with the thoughts bit, but will eventually accept them as their own.
