Soviet m.torpedo boat battle (1 of 3)

After some time, here another naval-battle drawing ^^
Here we have one of the first three works i've planned to do for the best successes of Soviet motor torpedo boats during the WW2
First Battle:
In 1942, Soviet submarines managed to pass on the German-Finnish miefield defenses in Gulf of Finland: they got losses, scoring a little number of victories, but managed to make a mess of the German shipping lines for some weeks.
For 1943 the Axis forces prepared a stronger defense, and they achieved to totally block the exit of the Gulf of Finland with minefields and anti-subs nets.
Key elements for such operations has been the finnish minelayers: however on 23 August 1943, Soviets took a little revenge, because the minelayer Riilahti (one of the two of the classes, and one of the only three Finnish minelayers) was on anti-submarine misson with engines down (to make no noise): suddenly a pair of Soviet motor torpedo boats attacked, and TK-94 of G-5 class torpedoed and sunk the minelayer.
Riilahti went down with 23 lives.
(on the background you can see also the Finnish patrol boat VMV-1 that rushed to save 11 men from water, including Riilahti commander, but he died for wounds).
G-5 class motor torped boats were mass-built and were planned for swarm-attacks on enemies, but they were mostly used as transport/landing/auxiliary/patrol boats and did only little use of torpedo attacks during the war.
The sinking of Riilahti was the best success of the class.

Problem for lack in charm for playing games it's that Soviet submarines while numerous and split in quite intriguing and unique classes, faced particular war conditions (heavy minefields, lack of large convoys of big targets etc).
Results against warship were very poor: this is probably the lack of interest for games.
Only a couple of German u-boats torpedoed and sunk (one in Baltic and one in Artctic), while the largest warship ever torpedoed and sunk was a single minesweeper in Arctic.
With submarine-laid mines some other victories were scored: an extra submarine and 3 different torpedo boats in Baltic Sea (including one large "Elbing class").
No battleship, cruiser or destroyer was ever sunk or damaged by Soviet sub. in WW2 with torpedo.
In fact, no such ship was ever hit by a Russian destroyer during WW1 either: Russian/Soviet only success in this kind of attacks was the British destroyer HMS Vittoria torpedoed and sunk by bolshevik submarine Pantera during the russian civil war.

Well.. they were still quite extremely active. Just due the background of operation and high losses, the results were limited. Apart the above mentions, they were famous also for sinking few large transport ships Germans used in 1945 to evacuate both civilians and troops from northern Poland. Indeed they were responsable of the most highest toll of casualties for single ship sunk in history (sinking of Gustloff by S-13 and sinking of Goya by L-3).
Sadly my knowledge in games is limited ^^
But I am ever eager to talk and share about the naval events on the eastern front (it's a little hobby of mine, among the many haha).
