"In my childhood I was a fervent worshiper of the tiger: not the jaguar, the spotted “tiger” of the Amazonian tangles and the isles of vegetation that float down the Paraná, but that striped, Asiatic, royal tiger, that can only be faced by a man of war, on a castle atop an elephant. I used to linger endlessly before one of the cages at the zoo; I judged vast encyclopedias and books of natural history by the splendor of their tigers. (I still remember those illustrations: I who cannot rightly recall the brow or the smile of a woman.) Childhood passed away, and the tigers and my passion for them grew old, but still they are in my dreams. At that submerged or chaotic level they keep prevailing. And so, as I sleep, some dream beguiles me, and suddenly I know I am dreaming. Then I think: this is a dream, a pure diversion of my will; and now that I have unlimited power, I am going to cause a tiger.
Oh, incompetence! Never can my dreams engender the wild beast I long for. The tiger indeed appears, but stuffed or flimsy, or with impure variations of shape, or of an implausible size, or all too fleeting, or with a touch of the dog or the bird.”

Hm.. very cool ^-^
Hm.. I sometimes feel wrong; for, I may be but a high schooler but I take the art classes.
And, I never take the project seriously.. even though I realized, it takes steps to improve.
And you can't just go straight to uber realistic husky faces..
But.. something about.. aggressively trying to get us to draw a silly still life, or a poster for a play so the school can get cheap good posters just bothers me hahaha
Ah yeah, you gotta start somewhere! Unfortunately art budgets at a lot of schools are really tight haha...
This was a piece I did in an advanced illustration class while going to school for my fine arts degree, and even then, it took quite a while for us to be able to do something other than still lifes and figure drawing! Still lifes are boring, but they help you learn more than drawing from your head.
Actually for this one, I used a toy lion as reference, posing it in different ways and shining a light on it...I used a feather I had for reference, I even scattered paper on the floor to use as reference to get the perspective right..so even this was kind of like a still life!

That is.. an oddly very cool way to work at;
I mean, I suppose.. if we think of things as having to be bone then muscle then flesh.. built from the ground up.
Even the most fantastical drawing, is a 'still life'
The gryphons feathers
The winged wolf's.. wolf body...
the colorful glowing forests trees...
Haha.. tight budget is right cx (Maybe I'm just bitter because I'm not sporty, but I sure do wish my school would take some of that beautiful sport budget and spread it among the arts classes, the drama, the writing, the art.. but alas)
Yeah haha my teachers had us use references for literally everything...and if we could find a picture, we had to make our own, even if that meant dressing up to pose or making objects out of clay to see how the shadows fall
Aw go figure..i dunno why schools are so obsessed with sports..bleh

Shadows, art would be very weird if shadows didn't exist.
Everyone would be flat.
But.. mhm.. I think, I need to start taking my simple highschool art class more seriously cx It's a level.. 3..4 class, and it's no different than other levels though.
Uh huh ;-; I wonder if it's America in general, kind of think it's schools everywhere.
Just, different sports.
