Reminds me of "scary stories" and "tales to tell at the midnight hour" both of which scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid

for some reason, the "tales to tell at the midnight hour" story which really scared me was the "goony birds" one.. I forget if there were others that terrified me, I need to check those again, but honestly I'm still a little scared. I hike a lot and I've been planning this trip for a couple years, where I rent some canoes with a few buddies and we take the Rio Grande from mid-upper new mexico all the way to part of texas.
