Actually, in the book, it was explained that Loompa Land is a real dump. He offered them all a MUCH better life, and they said whatever passes for "When do we leave>?!" in Loompish.

In the books, Wonka offers to hire the ooma loompas and pay them fair money. The oompa loompas decline; they want to be paid in chocolate

I'm glad you like it, the best thing about it is it's in no way forced. It makes sense that Whisker Winks would have Oompa Loompas like this, and tribal women are traditionally this way.
