It's actually just a white cake recipe I pulled from online because I don't like to use the regular store-bought cake mix kind is all. We also made proper buttercream icing with the hot syrup into egg yolk in the mixer method. You should also be able to find a decent recipe for that online, too but the simpler way with regular frosting works well enough. It's just completely worth going to the effort to make authentic buttercream instead. ;) But in order to get the rich, solid colours for the cake part, I needed to use specialty food colouring gel I bought from a hobby store. ^^ Normal food colouring won't work because it dilutes and is mostly meant for icing to begin with due to the pastel colours it makes. It'd still look really pretty that way anyway, but you won't get that bright "toy" style colouring unless you use proper gel colours. Anyway, it's a bit of a process, but if you've ever made cake pops before, you know that you have to mix the baked cake part with a tiny bit of the buttercream icing to get a soft dough going. Anyway, after that, I pressed each of the colours one at a time on top of each other into a bread pan and then chilled and cut it into cubes. Then I rolled them into balls, stuck them on sticks after dipping them in candy coating, and then rolled them in candy coating, then sprinkles and then they're finally done! I hope that gave you a rough idea of the process. They take a LONG time to make... LOL
After I rolled the cake layer cubes into balls, I dipped the tips of the sticks into candy coating before just sticking them into the cake balls, then put them back in the freezer to chill until firm again and then brought them out to roll them in the candy coating so that they don't fall apart from being too close to room temperature. Hope I cleared that up. ^^
