I tend do make the same expression as whatever I am drawing. Which is odd, since I can draw a convincing smile, but can't fake smile to take pictures for shit.

I make the faces without thinking about it, but it's when I start giggling about something I was thinking about that I realize I look like a crazy person :p

Of course! ...but then, that's what every artist does... They just, you know, put the dots down themselves :D ...and sometimes they're clustered so thick they look like lines.

That's all drawing is, really—filling in the bits between what isn't part of the drawing. It's a bit like bowling in that the faces help steer the lines where they're supposed to go.

Talked with Donna Barr about this. Yes, it's every artist. It's worst when you're trying to draw a particular facial expression. It's literally impossible to draw a face with some emotional expression without mimicking it yourself.

I used to think that I had some sort of mental problem because I compulsively imitated expressions as I was drawing them, or they just weren't right. Then I saw a professional animator doing the same thing without shame or hesitation. It was like this:
