You're the problem.
Why can't you do what someone else can?
You're too slow!
Why can't you be content with what we give you?
I know!
We'll break you!
Reduce you to nothing!
And you'll like it!
You want help?
Hold please.
Oh!
Do you still want help?
Hold please.
Help?
Oh!
We're waiting on something.
Hold please.
Did we get what we needed?
Let me check.
Sorry.
We got nothing.
Hold please.
Still looking for help?
Of course!
But you'll need to call this other person.
Hold please.
Did we hear from the other person?
Let me check.
No.
Can you contact them?
Hold please.
Why are you calling?
We still need something.
There's no help until we get what we need.
Hold please.
What do you want now?
Oh!
You're calling about that!
We got it.
Hold please.
Now what?
When will you get help?
Turns out we need something else.
Apparently our request wasn't received.
Hold please.
You?
Yes?
There's nothing you can do.
You just have to
hold please.
Why are you calling us?
We told you to only contact them!
This isn't a matter for us.
It's for someone else.
Hold please.
Fine.
It's going to take two months.
Why not sooner?
We didn't get that one document
until just yesterday.
Hold please.
Don't call us.
We'll call you
when we feel like it.
Your family?
Who cares!
I have more important things to do.
Hold please.

Poetry is always open for interpretation. :) I appreciate hearing your perspective on it.
For me it is an all encompassing poem for anyone who feels they are eternally "Put on Hold" and feel they have no control over important matters in their lives since everyone kicks the proverbial can or points a finger to someone else. The end result being nothing accomplished but annoyance.

This is good news. A theater is a great place to kick off a career. Plus it is a lot more fun than working for a Fast Food or Retail chain.
All my best to you as you await the news on whether you landed the position.
Thanks for taking the time to read. Writing is a great way to get out feelings. More positive than just letting it eat you up from the inside. :)

Hugs are always most welcome. *Hugs back* Especially from a wonderful friend like yourself.
It was nice to get out all my negative feelings through being creative. They say a lot of great music is written when the song writer is going through really good or very bad times. I can see why as emotion has a certain way of pouring itself out when you allow your mind to release it via your creativity.
Thanks for your time in reading and for your wonderful offer of support. *Hugs* You're a great friend and I'm thankful for being able to do so much good with you to help those with special needs.

In reading the series, we reach a point where our speaker has lost their voice and is subjected to the whims of the only support system they have - which seems to be some form of hotline for assistance. The constant recurring lines of "Hold please" and questioning emphasizes the lack of urgency in their support system, which leaves them speechless and powerless. Because these systems of support have to be owned by agents who are outside one's community, it's impossible to feel a real connection; instead we are left to feeling out for that robotic hand to finally tell us we have a voice again in our own destinies.
The 2nd person nature of this piece plays again into that hopelessness of rhetorical questioning and no hope. I find this to be a great decision to end on as a narrative, where our speaker is completely lost himself until somebody CAN act before his very identity is erased. Ironically, the words spoken by the speaker in the earlier pieces are the only reason he has a mark on this world anymore after this piece, and despite him not appreciating their impact, we feel them here as we begin to lose sight of him completely.
Yet, in thinking about that, it makes me wonder if I'm playing into the very same trap that I did with my Father and saying "Sorry". Just as our speaker felt that no matter how much they do matter, I am left to feel a similar sense of "What can I do to make a difference". This paradox of hopelessness embodies the ways our social structures make it so difficult for non-normative peoples to not receive discrimination and not be Othered outside their communities.
I do hope you write more. I'm happy to be on this end of the conversation for a change :) .

Wow, Neo. Your critique is beyond appreciated. I delighted reading each word of your interpretation. This is one of the true joys of writing. The feelings others gain from what you yourself put to paper (or text in this case) :)
I wrote all four of these in a matter of less than an hour. It was a way to reason out recent events and their psychological impact. It's so amazing how those of us who write can make something amazing out of what may be a terrible circumstance.
As I wrote these I realized why a lot of good songs are written when the author is either at their best or at their worst. To expect quality work otherwise is unfair since poetry is truly best when there is a strong emotional driver. Or that is at least how I feel about poetry. :)
I'm so glad that I have been able to follow your poetry over the years. I'm even happier that I've got to meet you... twice! You're a super guy to whom I am always eager to read what you may have poetically up your sleeve next. :)
